a letter to my editor

a letter to my editor
I have tried to get more cash to spend
on introducing me to a bigger audience
I contacted many of my readers on X and asked for
A contribution sent to Hillshire will not come
amiss so far nothing.
I could have asked the man himself, but I will not
He suffers from the insecurity that rich people
People who suffer from that, we like them for the money
I happen to like Elon Musk because he struggles
with a deep-seated shyness like my brother did
So his life is not that easy
So, therefore, just print the en book and send
a couple of copies to me, I shall be nothing more
than mulch in the acre of poetry

Premium MemberThe Sea of Hope

Written: May 11, 2025, for contest by Joseph May

                *************

A crimson sky breaks the distant shore,
Whispers of dawn amidst a quiet uproar.
The sea exhales a deep-seated hope,
Awakening dreams where echoes cope.

Sailing through the waves, the sails expand,
Symbols of bravery, a gently twirling strand.
The horizon promise shines as a bright guide,
Leading my spirit beyond the dimming side.

From the shadows, the wings of time ascend,
Caressing sunlight with lofty dreams, transcend.
On paths yet to be discovered, hearts reignite;
Every step becomes a life that is requite.

Drowning in Fear

This feeling of sudden, impending doom
corners me with strong arms.
A deep seated ache of guilt
for what wrong doing, I know not...
begins tearing at my insides
 like a sharp toothed rat
with fire looming at its back
and no escape but through the walls of my stomach.
I'm weakened by constant struggle and resistance.
It is a vicious circle. Duty, responsibilities, expectations...
neglected to avoid that fear that hounds me.
Only to make the anxiety greater,
which in turn frightens me into phobia...
 unreasonable fears.
These babes of my youth, then easier to command
 and forced to overcome,
have grown into strong, cruel men
who laugh at my struggles...
binding me, immobile,
as dark waters flow over my head.
Firming up each knot I manage to loose
and pushing my head under
as they laugh and laugh and laugh.

Pray For Me

A final rest clamps down on my eyelids
The shadow grows hovering over my soul
The hand of death weighs heavy on me
Not the death but a drifting from faith

The good I would do I do not, I do more of the evil
A million and one times have I fallen flat and folded
The sorrow runs a deep course through my veins
This sin seems deep seated in reins, to its shame I'm helpless

God with this sin I'm struggling, I do not want to disgust you
My eyes grow weary from many tears of sorrow
My heart's gotten tired to the thoughts of again I did it
God You can have mercy on me and really touch me too

Lost again in the prayers of humble sadness
There are no more tears left to shed
Have Your way with me truly just touch me LORD
Empty and break me LORD truly touch this me

Like a metal in the hands of the goldsmith
Beat and fashion me into Your precious being
Sin is getting the best of me, I am sorry LORD.
Pray for this last piece of me and bring me back again

Premium MemberAttachment to Things

Close your eyes gently. Breathe deeply and slow.
Take a calm, stolen moment to consider what you know.
Open your eyes slowly. On what do they fall?
You see things all around you. They mean nothing at all.

In every instance, you assign the value of each and every piece.
You give them all the meaning that they will ever have.
All are neutral but become symbols of your deep-seated beliefs,
Whether you understand it or are completely naïve.

Each stare back to reflect and remind you of stronghold beliefs.
They accuse you of attachments and meanings you’re unable to show.
Without them, you would not be able to see your hidden thoughts.
It’s easy to see why it’s so hard to release and let them go.

Consciously, you never give your things a second thought.
You just can’t live without them. Without them you chafe.
They make you feel good; make you feel whole.
Gathered all around you, they make you feel safe.

Unhappy with your life? Look at your symbols.
Each is a symbol of who you believe yourself to be.
Each holds the energy that you have projected.
Let go of the attachments to set your mind free.

CHAOTIC WOMAN

Chaos ensues when she enters the venue
Deep-seated insecurities and childhood issues
She takes the beauty and makes it problematic
Chaos is a defining feature of her habits

She aughts be in pictures an award-winning actress.
She embodies the measurements of a diva in distress
She leaves a path of destruction wherever she goes
like a wildfire burning out of control

Malicious, disparaging, unsightly, and misguided
Anger and confused she realizes her world is divided
She wants the power to conquer everyone’s lions
Yet getting taken down by her demonic giants

She's both cold like frost and fierce like a flame
Slurring, cursing, and scandalizing everyone’s name
She is one-sided, so don't waste your time
Trying to persuade her otherwise

The Cross is the only thing that could save that girl
Truth, that’s brighter than a gem, purer than pearls
It's time to unshackle from that intense cord
Jesus’s sacrifice is a gift it is not your award
You don’t have to be pretentious
Just apply yourself & unborn

Ants

This morning
whilst brushing my teeth
and trying
with very little success
to obey the dental profession's plea
to brush in a circular motion
and not
in a side to side motion
I noticed some ants
scurrying about on the shiny porcelain
doing no harm
just going about their morning routine
as was I
with very little thought
and even less concern
I brushed them into the basin
turned the tap on for a beat or two
and flushed them away
as I turned the tap off
with toothpaste foaming around my mouth
and running down the toothbrush onto my wrist
a terrible guilt and a crushing sadness
at my unthinking cruelty
at my cavalier snuffing out of life
overtook me
and wrought within me
an overwhelming desire
to tip my head back
and wail at the ceiling
to try and assuage
the soul-deep sorrow
the deep-seated need for forgiveness
that wracked my very core.

Memory Loss

I am almost asleep
comfortably drifting
when a troubling sense of loss
settles in behind my navel
it feels like a piece of me
something that I’ve done
a place that I’ve been
someone that I’ve met
has drifted off
disappeared
it taunts and teases
just out of reach
like that familiar yet forgotten name
at rest on the tip of your tongue
this sense of loss
of something gone
evokes a deep-seated melancholy
an unsettling need
to reach out and touch
what isn’t there
but should be.

Premium MemberImmanent Yet Transcendent

"You're not strong enough whispered the Devil to withstand life's
storms and I yelled back to him, thanks to God I am the storm."

                                                     Quote by _ Constance

I am that which I am within my mind,
and able to transcend this earthly realm;
have found my true purpose- I am not blind,
though the way to I am can overwhelm.

I will be- create what I will create,
these thoughts are deep-seated within my soul;
God has always taught me my sublime fate,
it is who I am, it is my life goal.

I am who created me, I am me,
two little words that can change a whole life;
I am who I was yet I am guilt free,
free of the strife in life and her sharp knife.

I am and I am-   boundless and unique;
immanent, transcendent, not weak or meek.

Stand

When dark clouds bring an outpouring of tears on your parade
When glorious dreams and plans have been delayed...

                                  STAND

When the evil eye stares you down
When deep-seated hatred tries to turn that smile into a frown...

                               DO STAND

When thieves and knaves come for a seizure
When inciters come to disrupt your leisure...

                             PLEASE STAND

When there are no claps or applause
When the breath of exhaustion breathes on your neck, urging you to pause...

                         BY ALL MEANS, STAND

And remain standing in spite of__
Because all help comes from the most high above

Premium MemberThe Murder of Souls

thee deep seated hatred gnarling
at ones soul beckoning eating away
of the sheer foundation of self
a terrifying entity alive and well

searching the innermost calm
of a peaceful being believing in
the purity of goodness only to
behold the hidden shallow virtue

of demonic human angst being
carried out between the realms
of envy curled up beyond a quaint
sudden rapture gathered above

a sinking notion of the death
of human compassion hindered so
to the point of no refuge from envy
forced to end ones on life in return

comes across quite appealing rather
than behold the mere notion that envy
has crawled inside the attic of your mind
hatred employs wrath murdering my soul

Premium MemberYin Yang of Life's Perception

The giftee rings true only when their offering is given without greed
and when received in gentleness without tug it will surely supersede

Love is the union of two people who willingly sacrifice themselves
Lust is a brash rub of emotion that with selfish intent often delves

Truth is honest, open and often patient, in expressing its commitment
Lies on the other hand are cunning and always eager to increment

Isolation can lead to separation along with deep seated loneliness
but recognizing same in others can be a moment of deep awareness

Darkness

Darkness

In a quiet room the darkness encircles all
The slightest of shadows seemly abounds
Your eyes grappling to focus wherewithal
You become attuned to all the subtle sounds

Within the shadows lurk your deepest fears
In childhood memories of forgotten tales
Once again fearsome efficiencies appears
In your imagination, within all gruesome details

Deep within the psyche of the blackest hearts
There is this darkness where hate controls
Somehow hurt turning into anger imparts
Buried deep within their tortured souls

Perhaps that they not know the harm that they do
When consumed by only hate in their tortured souls
Controlled by past events they have lived through
Deep seated anger and hate takes many tolls

Darkness takes on form in many strange ways
Be it the void of all light, in a black, lonely space
Or the blackest of souls, of all those that betrays
Darkness can change into light within a loving grace
