Fur bounds, through the cottony breeze, to me.
On a warm, summery day,
the scent of dog resounds.
A wet nose, commiserate smile and hug.
Against my skin, he reclines.
I’m always home with him.
His eyes, see not, purple flowers blooming;
not intuitive of hue;
but bud’s loyal as bees.
My shoulder’s bare, does he know skin, or care?
He stays very close to me
and wanders nearly far.
My pretty dress and handsome hat amidst
the enchantment of meadow.
He doesn’t know its charm.
Obeys, he stays, protects territory.
A fine life, with benefits;
faithful to each other.

I strolled my garden on a day so fair,
and lo, a sad spider was sitting there.
I found that I could commiserate
with the little guy whose legs were eight.
Imagine, my friend, how it feels
to have so many Achilles heels.

Covid
commiserate, conjugate
circumambulate around the
circumference of the
continent
covertly circulate
in the crevices of
confederates
cramped, crawling,
crooning in the
cavern of
Copulates
we concurred
that the crisis
was going to confabulate
Covid closure
clamped and comorbid
into crass and crumpled
consternates
constipate crush
collapse and confiscate
curious conjugates
carelessly canned
into cisterns of
congenial but classless
contaminate.
i cannot continue
to calculate
the cost of our
confusion.

Sadly, she felt happy all of the time,
not a pinch of depression or anxiety
or any doubt, nor questioning
ever entered her life.
Of course this pissed off the rest of us.
She was impossible to put up with for long.
It wasn't natural, it was galling,
intolerable.
Kind?
She was very kind, helpful and ever attentive,
always considerate; it drove us crazy.
The best we could do is avoid her,
keep her at arm's length,
pray for her simple soul, commiserate,
try to understand.

in my current manic state
I do not hesitate
to throw away my fate
walking off is my date
not a potential mate
identify source of hate
to silliness I equate
that guy was second rate
pretty sure you can commiserate
for your last blind date
was not totally great
book writers collaborate
publisher may have to wait
send a teaser as bait
this guy was named Nate
Not my ideal blind date

I look out the window at the tree
in the back yard next door
just behind a small yellow house.
Its crown is still green, but I
know leaves will fall.
A dump truck
with a flashing yellow strobe
crawls along the side street
as a city worker looks
for cracks in the asphalt.
And the neighbor’s pickup
has been gone since last week.
He said in passing one day
he didn’t know if his lease
would be renewed.
I figure that’s the way it is—
people move into the house
and are gone before I have
the chance to know them
as they grow into their lives.
And the city—
it is living and dying
even now, forty years after
the tractor factory closed.
Locals in the neighborhood
bar downtown still gather
watch football or baseball
and commiserate—
but even someone new
is greeted as a friend.
And I’m back in town
to stay after four years
of working with construction
crews in five different states.
Two darkened windows
of the quiet house gaze
across the front yard, ghosting
the lives of those who have
come and gone.

Sadly, she felt happy all of the time.
Not a pinch of depression or anxiety
or any doubt, nor questioning
ever entered her life.
She was just happy.
Of course this pissed off the rest of us.
After 10 minutes in her company
our sociable smiles would fall apart.
Anger would arise in us like a vengeful dragon.
She was impossible to put up with for long.
It wasn't natural, it was galling
intolerable.
Kind?
She was very kind, helpful and ever so attentive,
always considerate; it drove us crazy.
She was relentlessly optimistic,
'empathy' was her middle name.
Did she know nothing about this sad, bad world?
Did she ever contemplate all the hate?
Was she just bonkers?
The best we could do is avoid her.
Keep her at arm's length,
pray for her simple soul, commiserate,
try to understand.

With the enemy commiserate,
a concoction of potent evening potential
about to be imbibed by surly girls,
and douchey guys, with too nice vibes
Aloof not complacent,
Wasted. But don't point it out.
Less you choose the way of petty
Jettisons into sloppy confrontations
Liquid courage consequences,
Fuel for your pained aggression.
Nights you don't remember,
So you never learned your lesson.
Drink with family friends or alone,
The sponsored beverage of broken homes.

My bitter tears like pearls conceived in pain
Frustration underlying a flailing, sad descent,
Down, downward falling to such a dark abyss
Where hurt and sorrow soon will commiserate.
Did you not see the anguish of my aching heart?
Loss which triggers emotions I so carefully conceal
And take from me every bit of strength I possess,
To make a better life for myself despite your gall.
And I believe that time will come to rescue me,
Take me to that higher plane of heavenly I seek
My bitter tears will dry up, like they never were,
I shall love again, I vow, and taste new tears of joy.

It's getting awfully late
I have a lot on my plate
I'm in a blase state
I long for a clean slate
I've done things I hate
Were my choices fate?
It was a horrible date.
I took the cunning bait
I walked in evils gate
I did it, and I can't debate
Nor even commiserate
Darkness said checkmate

Will it be a fling?
This ‘social distancing’
Or is it here to stay
Like that hasty marriage
Where both partners pay
And before locking down
The whole town
It didn’t occur to you
Even once
How’ll those love birds
Ignite their romance?
But the Agony Aunts
Please don’t commiserate
These in-love fellas
Will still have their date
Do you really think
'Self-isolation' will do the trick
Cure these love-sick
You’re wrong
They’ve always been doing
Nothing else, but day dreaming
Planning secret meetings
Dodging prying eyes
Inventing all those lies
Poor thing
Now he has tested positive
Not for COVID-19
You stupid
But CUPID-20
You knew
He was vulnerable
But smart that he is
He’ll ensure
It’s not uncomfortable
And before you forcibly
Take him away
Just listen to
What he has to say
“Chill mate
I’m ready to co-operate
But with a condition
The world I’ll shun
But lock me up
With her
Let my Valentine
Be my quarantine.”

The news is bad, the newsmen glad
Talking heads squawking gaily on and on
Daily dispensing skewed views of the news
Expert analysis from partisan fools
They report an event, for a few seconds
Then speculate, commiserate, and try to shape
What all should think about what was said
Time after time the story is not how things went
But how we must all now think on the event
Here is my news, for what it is worth
Spend no more than a few minutes a day
Consuming the news in different ways
The rest is just garbage that gets in the way
Go about your life and say
No, to the talking fools who claim
They are just reporting the news
To stupid to realize, we are wise to the game

Getting together with girlfriends entails,
Aside from the obvious – eating!
Discussions of life and the various ways
We fill time up that seems to be fleeting.
Of course, we compare all our upcoming trips
For our journeys are different and take us
Within the U.S. or across the big pond
Where no ship, car or plane would forsake us.
We cannot resist as we show off the kids,
For each one of our grands is amazing
And it’s lovely to share pics and videos as
We soak up the delight and the praising.
But the topic that overtakes most of our time
Is our health and the way it’s declining –
The aches and the pains and the doctors and tests;
We commiserate, kvetching** and whining.
As the years ratchet up, that’s the way that it goes,
There is sunshine but also much raining
So we laugh and we smile at how lucky we are
Though, of course, we leave room for complaining!
*tsuris - troubles or woes; aggravation
**complaining

Supine
the storm blows
and blows
STRENGTH and VERVE
STRENGTH and VERVE
until it's final exit
we exhale and we watch
rainbows erupt
brushing the backdrop red
jade hints her place amid the blushing blue
dazzling a loving
peaceful sky
the fox just happens by
run fox run
meander in my meadow
and wander thru my eye
the softness of the day
after hardened night
billows bestow
upon
cotton candy clouds
to consume and commiserate
licking lasting wafts of lilac
from the wind
where the butterfly garden
calls
and invites us in
we inhale and we wait
beauty caressed in arms of gold
visions sought will soon unfold
flit and flutter
silenced
in words not uttered
we stare off into the distance
the foreseeable future
slyly with no fear
nor imminent peril
the fox approaches near
We need to live, to breathe, make love to the day and hold close the night

Phone home.
Make things like they used to be
Playing cards til midnight
Laugh, talk, squawk, chips, dips,
having a fit
Over lost rounds
Listening to Dad
Expound on…
Doesn’t matter, he knew
Car tires or relationships
Expert on all subjects
Phone home
Let’s drink mimosas
Til 3 one afternoon
Then jump in the pool
Like fools we’ll
Synchronized swim
Phone home
And we’ll talk and talk and talk
And reminisce and commiserate
Cry and hug,
Bond, get back
to that space where we once were
Us.
But that’s not Us,
We don’t bend or kowtow
Stiff upper lips
Mouths zipped,
Broken hearts encrypted
Phone home.
