Best Paw Poems
Peel 'em and eat 'em,
All you want.
To yo table straight from da Gulf.
Cooked wit corn and taters
an' sausage dat's smoked.
Buy 'em today while we're stoked.
Paw Paw caught 'em in his lil shrimpboat.
Maw Maw cooked 'em in dat big 'o black pot
outside on da fire dat was so hot.
Tante Rose made some sauce
wit mynaise 'n ketsup.
Den she added da hot sauce to spice it all up.
So y'all come and get you some.
Dey big and dey fat.

As we say grace around this table
sadly some are just not able
to fold their paws, to bow their head
repeat the words as they are said
and yet with reverence here they sit
just happy to be part of it.
A sip of tea, a muffin crumb
some jelly licked off of a thumb
a simple time shared with a friend
it could become a yearly trend.

Silence hushed, a crowd in awe,
Only crickets could be heard.
Under the spell of the Babe,
They looked to where he pointed,
Hoping to see a home run.
Perhaps the greatest player
America ever-knew,
Would, once again, please the crowd.
But the pitcher wasn't phased,
And threw a wicket screwball.
Babe watched its winding approach,
Eyed it close, took aim, and swung.
Resounding off of his bat,
Unfailingly, the ball flew.
Then, as the home crowd cheered on,
Headed straight for its target.

PAW PRINTS IN THE SAND
David Lasaine 2017
When you were alone, I was there.
When the sun rose or set, I was there.
When you faced death, I was there.
When you were sad, I was there.
When the darkest of times happened, I was there.
When you shivered...I was your warmth.
When you cried, I tasted your tears.
When you slept...I protected you.
We shared many wonderful memories, you and me.
We laughed and played together.
I asked not for much: a belly rub and my side scratched.
To be walked a few times a day.
I put my life in your hands to care for me, to feed me...to love me.
I served you with unconditional love and faithfully during my life.
And when I am gone, until we meet in the Spiritual World.
Please do not forget me...I will be waiting for you.
Eternally Yours,
Your Faithful Companion
Silent moth, lonely
Spirit, your dark beauty screams
Trapped under cat’s paw.
lord,i need a break
an animal covers his
the weak inherit
The memories that I have of you
Everyday they flood my mind
You weren't here to long
But long enough to
Leave some really deep paw prints on my heart
The way that you lived your difficult life
How you wanted to be with everyone
Laying on the shoulders or laps
Cuddling up to my chin
The way you were always there when we ate
The sound of your soft meow
The way you cuddled up with me under the covers
It didn't matter
All you wanted was someone to hold you all the time
No matter where I was you were right there with me
Trying to get on me even if I was busy
God, took you way to soon
Now all I have are these memories
They are all in a paw print
So now all is left Is a
Paw print on my heart
It's so deep that it will hurt for the rest of my life
PAW PAW ADAGE OF LIFE.
I know this fruit
I know its old nursery rhyme
I love its taste so sweet
The softness and sweetness align
But where thou grow makes me wonder
In bola thou stand amidst dirt
Cheered by smells and empty nylons
There you stand so tall and with ripe fruits
Thou sweetness is like Cummings
Your surrender on the mouth like a soft romance
Your taste on the lips sweet like a lovely kiss
Your watery body make my mouth wet
While my tongue leak up your juice
As it gives a slippery passage
For your easy sliding into my waiting stomach.
This I know I for sure
A star can shine in the dark sky
When nature unlucks its features
From nowhere a man shines.
lids black out and allow me to write
while eyes shut tight
bring back four legged friends sprite
and though many years passed quite
I can remember those precious creatures
who barked at night
howling at inaudible sound or invisible light
casting silhouettes that fight
punctured the air with verbal byte
and now I list long gone
smart pets in alphabetical order – alright?
Baron – substantially German Sheppard
met his demise chasing a car on level road
the advantage overtaken
per vehicle with greater lode
which accidental death
found him buried in an unmarked grave
i.e. underground abode.
Georgie – a combination Boxer and Dalmatian
(with his cropped tail to boot
grew up as my canine brother
an essentially gave up the ghost
from organ failure of one or another.
Lady – this fur certain white German Sheppard
uncertain how, when or what
led to her body to collapse
perhaps while listening to snoop doggy dog raps
found on base near first stair
when rigor mortis set deathly traps.
Ruff – he and his litter mate Teddy
(listed below), an alpha beast o man’s and
woman’s best friend with moments of rage
as applicable to a dog, and seemed
to evince an intelligence like a sage.
Schultz – he apparently vanished in thin air
without a trace, not e’en
a filament of fur like hair
hopefully taken in by another pet lover,
but who knows where.
Shadow – pride of eldest sister,
he succumbed after becoming thermally ill
though diminutive for a black lab,
his absence left a void quite large to fill.
Socrates - dealt with harsh mistreatment
and distemper than tossed out
like trash, mine to sisters,
who nursed him with tender loving care
from his faux paws to a keen snout
which maintained his longevity no doubt.
Teddy – another throw away pet
found at Jacobsburg –
near Easton, Pennsylvania.
one lame leg (damaged
during his puppy hood)
lived til olde age.
my younger sister ( Shari)
brought him and Ruff home,
where their entire life he did stay
inherently evincing intelligence
that happiness found that chance
provided a doting owner this way.
Each time you look into my eyes
I cry a little as I embrace the soft kisses on my cheek
For you are there from when I wake up until I go to sleep
Watching over me in every possible way
My Fur Face
How I love you are so unconditional and pure
your love won't ever leave
Even when time is cruel and against your side
Your memory is what will help keep you always alive
I take the knowledge you won’t always wag your tail
Some days like humans oh my furry friends you will feel down
You will grow old
Such a short life span with you in my arms
As you lick away the tears
As you reassure my fears
Don't worry furry friends
The cat and dog that enrich my lives
You left nothing when you go
Yet something so attainable that will last for all eternity
Paw Prints on My Heart
sometimes staring at a wordless emptiness of white
hesitant fingers hover over keys like a fox ears over snow
It's there reflecting in time's vibration smelling of salt and tar
Lines twisted taut by steady wind firmly anchored at full sail
Lights flash erratically through shouldering smoldering clouds
Then thrusting forward on the turn of running tide
Anchor lines severed as one by two well swung axes
Left to float loose like yacht club moorings
As the ship heels and dances over slower whitecaps
Free as a hunting hawk and just as deadly
Sometimes the rawness of aggressive creativity has fingers tip on wrong keys
twisting wording and thought lines in frantic search for continuity.
Sometimes she wallows on following seas bilges sloshing in frustration
as the helm sluggishly stubbornly refuses to obey
Other times the winds die and fog consumes all thoughts in clammy clutch of cold deadness
Where in hell is that damned coffee?
Eyes aglow,I roam without fear.
Ears pierced,a vibrating sound.
Claws emerge a subtle grip of ground.
Like a ghost in the night.
I am rarely seen.
Scoping the plain,checking the scene.
Smart and sleek.
I can hold my own.
Tempered set,I work alone.
Enemies exist.
They rapture me not.
Never will you catch me move lacking a plot.

Cafted in purity through the veins of the Serengeti
A writing based on a search for natural beauty
An enriched relaxer for the lion's mane and golden coat
Raindrops that burn black spots on an otherwise plain cat
Smudges of puddled ink for the springbok's leap
Drew a mustache over the baboon's pouting lips
As he mockingly attempts to improve on my mistakes
Across my face a reflection of satisfaction over the lake
Briefly, a plane expression of a perfect horizon
Momentarily, a paw print in wet ink through the killing zone
The ripples felt like aftershocks in the now overrun grooves
At the tip of the antelope's raised tail and twitch of hooves
The signature is complete with elephant mud sprays
And birdsong of fresh air's clear tunnel of new prays
Flipping earlobes at the sound of a mosquito's buzz
All is forgiven in this flowing balance of life's breeze
The triumphant South Paw (lefty)
I wanted to use my artistic bent
To a world renowned manufacturer I was then sent
"I want to paint your plates and other things
And learn how to put on the pretty golden rings."
“Hold up your hands, tell me which do you use?”
“Why I’m left handed, I don’t get to choose”
"Oh no" you leave now, you leave from this place
We don’t have left-handers here you are a disgrace."
I held up my hands abashed and in shock
This evil thing of mine was the means of the chop
"No said I, I will not be beat."
"Take me to the head boss, and I will compete."
She marched me in and told him my shame,
"She’s no good to us she’s a lefty, she will be lame."
I held back the tears and said "Look I can do this."
"Just give me a chance please don’t me dismiss."
He picked up his pen and started to write,
He was left-handed too I saw to my delight.
"Give her a chance if she can’t do it she’s out."
He winked at me and said “You’ll show them I don’t doubt.”
“But everything is set up for the right-handed crowd.
Speed is of the essence so lefties aren’t’ allowed."
They took me to the interview and started the wheel
I said no “I’ll do it my way, so I get the feel.”
“You are doing it wrong, that’s going the wrong way”
“Hey you, I’m a lefty and this is OUR day."
I won, I succeeded, and I was the fastest in the shop.
My wage was enormous; I was not for the chop.
Ever since that day there are left-handers there
They now provide lefty’s proper table’s wheels and chairs
This is a true story, no left-handers were alowed because it was paid peacework and evrey things was set up for right handers. There was also a thought that left handers could not do it anyway. I not only proved it in the decorating deparment but in other departments as well and now they set things up for both left and right.
