A night’s rest is never enough for the city always calls
A new day is like a page flip from the time a night falls
A breakfast can be leftover supper to empty bowls
Or a smile for sparing the lives of crowing fowls
I duck human traffic as I rush for my day’s grind
It is just like a switch flip, how I forget what I left behind
I have one hope but a million calculations in my mind
I take the same turns and corners but I always hope for a new find
I am a jack of all trades and I can trade like a jack
When there's a lack of luck, when I slack, I turn into a flack
Tomorrows become like yesterdays, if today slumbers
Time is mostly regrets and money, it is never just numbers
Bouyant is what we all are as the tide of struggles flows
We all float to a destiny regardless of the type of oars
We rushing through rapids to a sea where everything slows
On this voyage of life the compass points at one thing, anything goes
In this age of “anything goes”
Decency is not a priority as we know
Preferred the old rules
Call me an old fool
Twas a different era things were slower
Fierce was their hatred for Reagan
Now for Mr. Trump all the more
At his State of the Union Speech
The Dems aimed to even the score
Trump's backers still cheering
his "Best is Yet to Come" close
Ms. Pelosi ripped up all his notes
then struck a defiant pose...
'Midst all of Washington's partisan woes
Nancy Pelosi proved nearly anything goes
What has life in store?
Milk on bed and milk when dead.
Why sulk all along?
P.S.This poem is based on the Hindu customs of burial. Attending a funeral recently taught me this very essence of Life.
As I claim my own parcel of solitude
from yesterday's banging boom,
I see heaven expanding through you
in me: fireflies glow rare as Sunday’s bliss,
never mind if there is a call for patience
when holy hours rise upon the lines of your mouth;
resting on the ledge of a private oasis.
This I cannot enter... the night curfew drifts
gently and quietly yet full of love's spaces;
O the hush of your mouth tender as harp's rhythm
I want to kiss.
My parcel of quietude becomes yours
while we listen to the same monastic silence,
gazing at clouds alone and together
until we rest lovingly inside our gentle, holy world.
Into near midnight with eyes closed, we slumber and then...

Anything Goes
______________________
Enfold me like the breath of spring,
when beauties blooming new
kiss my petals ever gently
like the fallen dew.
Take me into the shade,
where there's a cooling breeze
arch me like a tree trunk
in the summer heat.
Nourish me with every sence,
and all you worldly pleasure
feather me with tender care
so we may love together.
5/24/14-Jessica Thompson
She throws hateful words at me
And I echo more hate right back
After twenty years of matrimony
We have perfected our lame attacks
Familiarity, contempt does breed
As the long-time married surely knows
But in love, just like where soldiers bleed,
All is fair and anything goes
She knows all my insecurities
And knows just where it hurts
Our love is stained with impurities
As we eat our just desserts
Underneath our outer jealousies
The lava of love still gently flows
But on the battlefield of our miseries
All is fair and anything goes
Silence is an unspoken truce
As we attempt to mend the wound
Around our necks hangs the wedding noose
Neither surrendering too soon
The peace table is a soft mattress
Where tenderly we land the blows
Being guilty, we don’t dare confess –
All is fair and anything goes
NOTE: This was written for Chris Aechtner's "Anything Goes" contest. Although I realize, "Anything Goes" was not the intended theme and that Christopher was simply opening his contest to any and all kinds of poetry, I thought it would be fun to use that as the theme of my poem.
No one willfully wants to assist the blight
Only we seem to be, yet clearly in the right
They are and must come screaming bloody
Hell, what don't they understand? Something
In the dark cries out, nothing comes from nothing
No way no how, but endlessly they attack us,
Grueling begrudging and badgering, they rack us
So high and pull apart at the seems, till we give
Every drop of blood in our dreams, so we live
Ever thriving near the end of the road, and beg for scraps
Master says are gold, gold damnation for angels,
Seraphs set to weave our fortune,
Telling us one thing and giving us another
Oh God if I had a nickel for every time brother
Got a nickel? I could use one it seems to call
Irresponsibility back and get my quarter
Vile venomous witch, she's called, loitering
Evermore in my heart and home, so long.
There was a tolerant man
Tolerance was his plan-
He, to decide which is & is not,
Judging tolerance was his lot-
Methinks..he often loses the plot
To a manager its clever
To knowledgeable employees its torture
To smart employees its exploitation
To the rest it feels like slavery
What separates a motivator from a con artist
What separates a motivator from an abuser
Cant prove it.
Does that make it legal
Does that make it fair
They don’t care
Pay me what I’m worth
I’ve got nowhere since birth
They keep me poor
As they want more
All I want is somewhere to live
My life is give, give, give
Nothing in return
But I learn
