Tsunami

Clinging to a tree my might is numb
Teeth chattering, soaked in seaweed I succumb
to the shores of doom, the tides violent surge
Adrift and marooned all owed to a sudden urge
After the party I woke up on a tropical island
Wild rainforest and coconut groves, tailor made in Thailand
The Turtle Island, underwaters heaven
We were seven, gone snorkeling the night before
None of which were ones who washed ashore
I heard scrambling voices from below
less those who didn’t survive the deathblow
Lungs spewing up ocean water, not the timeless turquoise,
but the stormy muddled wash, murky, writhing wildly
sirening a crushing noise
Twigs, glass, and storms debris rips through skin
Blood seeps down red rivers running thin
soaked thoroughly, bringing shivers
As tidal waves and ruthless rain cease their wells,
instinctively the islanders help each other through
the fallen landscapes
As the beached turtles struggle in their shells,
who once glided effortlessly in the sea
I know what I must do
Keep with the spirit of aloha
and stay until the sky becomes blue
Then set the turtles free

Premium MemberAn Autumn Aloha

Ever-changing Autumn, its shapes and shades.
Fanning breath stirs the heavily laden;
transforms and redraws like playful charades,
prepping, and grooming, all the misshapen.

A pastor's mural paints pure from trespass,
ever-changing Autumn, its shapes and shades.
Prismatic design grounds tell-tale stained glass
and forest steeples are Redwood's crusades.

Kids taking the plunge, multihued cascades,
succumb to trampling and crushing horseplay.
Ever-changing Autumn, its shapes and shades,
the bejeweled waits: Sunday's white bouquet.

Awe striking vista blessing amble eyes,
bounteous nostalgia praising persuades.
Peace thine harmonious artwork baptize,
ever-changing Autumn, its shapes and shades.

Premium MemberKo Olina Place of Joy

Picture a tropical paradise - faraway
Colorful leis of fresh fragrant flowers
Worn by hula dancers that sway
Sandy beaches and leisure filled hours
Soft waving palms on a moonlit bay

This island where mountains reach down to the seas
You’ll be filled with Aloha wherever you go
Soothed by the oceans and warm blowing breeze
Each day assures us of a rainbow
Everything dances here - even the trees

As evening fades to pale orange light
Beach boys sound a conch shell call
Hawaiian torches burn into the night
Ukulele’s strum- an instant heal all
At last on vacation the world seems right

Many people each of a different race
From other lands have come to make a home
To live in peace in this enchanting place
And to here will return however far they roam
Ko ‘Olina beckons them with silent grace

On an outrigger canoe Christmas Day
He wore a grass hula skirt
And a large Aloha shirt
His course went astray he opted to play

Aloha - For Rico Leffanta

I’m not on social media
And yet I have a group
Of buddies I have never met;
I know them from the Soup.

We comment on each other’s poems
And through each varied post,
We learn, in dribs and drabs, about
What matters to us most.

My fellow poets span the globe
And one above the rest
Took time each day to let me know
He’d read what I’d expressed.

His repertoire of limericks,
Which no one could resist,
Were funny, often bawdy,
But a day was never missed.

So when I didn’t see a post
From my Hawaiian friend,
I had a sinking feeling
It might signify the end.

Dear Rico, may you rest in peace.
I’ll miss our warm rapport
And your signature Aloha!
Will not greet me anymore.

Premium MemberWhen the Whistle Blows

When the whistle blows
You combat for your dreams
When the whistle blows again
You retire from your dreams
When the whistle blows for the last time
You have to say aloha
And before the last whistle blows
You have to try your best
So that you won't regret
For the first or the last time in life
Life is so short
It won't be long
Before the last whistle blows
You've to make up your mind
As sometimes
It comes all in a sudden
Without any warning

Aloha also is Goodbye

How do, You do,
(Obama, who?)
Honolulu,
"Gathers," the pro-left best
they stick like cements,

Issues: starved mass,
overcrowdedness;
their gilded penthouse nests
o'er the homeless tents.

Aloha Rico

Rico is a fellow soup brotha
Whose limericks are all a goha
With the stroke of his pen
Comes again and again
He’ll then smile and sign off Aloha.

He’s the master of limerick quirks!
He has charmed PS with witty smirks!
His wit, quite dry,
Hits a bullseye,
That is how Rico's wry mindset works!

Aloha Robert Kekaula

A church rat ran under our pew
Our Vicar caught it impromptu
Though some found it odd
The Vicar thanked God
For adding fresh meat to the stew
