After the party, I woke up on a tropical island Poetry Contest

Note the following article by Aloha Spirit.com

The Aloha Spirit is a core aspect of Hawaiian culture and daily life. It represents a set of values and a way of living that promotes harmony, love, and respect. The “aloha spirit” refers to embodying attitudes like patience, kindness, humility, and compassion in daily living. It’s a mindset of being selfless, graceful, and conscious of how we impact those around us. When you live with aloha, you act with love towards people, creatures, and the land. Although in Thailand I choose Aloha as the spiritual way.

Tsunami Clinging to a tree my might is numb Teeth chattering, soaked in seaweed I succumb to the shores of doom, the tides violent surge Adrift and marooned all owed to a sudden urge After the party I woke up on a tropical island Wild rainforest and coconut groves, tailor made in Thailand The Turtle Island, underwaters heaven We were seven, gone snorkeling the night before None of which were ones who washed ashore I heard scrambling voices from below less those who didn’t survive the deathblow Lungs spewing up ocean water, not the timeless turquoise, but the stormy muddled wash, murky, writhing wildly sirening a crushing noise Twigs, glass, and storms debris rips through skin Blood seeps down red rivers running thin soaked thoroughly, bringing shivers As tidal waves and ruthless rain cease their wells, instinctively the islanders help each other through the fallen landscapes As the beached turtles struggle in their shells, who once glided effortlessly in the sea I know what I must do Keep with the spirit of aloha and stay until the sky becomes blue Then set the turtles free

Alas, no stranger to our particular island where paradise is a pretty word for the other seven islands in our major group. Our namesake island of Hawaii, quakes, volcanic, and tsunami's--tourist dollars heighthen. Our town of Hilo over 300 souls claimed over recorded history by tsunami's. A blessed inscription, Anaya. Aloha William

Linda Alice Fowler: This is what I was denied submitting for your Tsunami: Fabulous photos you've chosen for this delightful poem Anaya. Damage, death, destruction sensitively expressed and then blessed by your compassion. Lovely! :)

I could sense some movement over here from my page Anaya, Tsunami’s are an unstoppable force of nature, sounds like a really bad dream you had, makes for powerful poetry nonetheless, especially setting the turtles free, raw emotion on display, cheers David

Glad you understand the intensity, and forceful nature, David. I want the audience to feel as if in a movie, with a finish, zenlike. Thank you!

Beautiful tsunami illustration. Anaya, it describes tsunami damage well. A slow-moving, hardly detectable wave can start after an earthquake (often the water leaves the beach first) and slow down and gain amplitude in shallow water.

Devastating storms as well and great loss and damages. Thank you, SP

I don't have the experience of a tsunami in our miserable island. But if I were to land in a tropic island, so long as there's food, I would stay there. Lovely description of a dangerous tsunami. You did well. Blessings.

An old movie, I remembered islanders holding onto palm trees whilst a tidal wave and windy storm took them away. It was the first time I watched a tidal wave. Nothing compared to a tsunami! Thank you, Victor

Anaya, a profound description of the effects of a tsunami. After an earth quake, a high speed wave can start, which is hardly noticeable until it gets to shallow water where it slows and develops a huge amplitude (often the water disappears from the shore first). The poem is also an allegory for what can happen to us in life. We could be orphaned, and if we're lucky we live a productive and kind life. It's all about attitude...aloha!!!

A warning sign, when the water recedes before the tidal wave. An earthquake in Alaska caused the Hawaiian Tsunami, volcanos cause them as well. The currents afterwards are strong and carry off the debris making swamp land. California was supposedly to sink into the ocean, I've heard that since I was a child caused nightmares "Where to go when there's no San Fransico" song -"Day After Day" It hasn't happened yet thank God Aloha!

Thank you for the awesome review! Sea turtles are beautiful. Maybe in my next life. Venus would've been a sci-fi story.
