Waterway Life

Waterway Life

They call me the floating Nomad,
Moving slowly from Lock to Lock,
Living the high life on the Waterways,
A new home, a new pond to dock.

Canals have been my life,
From the moment that I was born,
Parents raised me on a narrow boat,
A Pledge to uphold tradition, I was sworn.

Winter can often be harsh,
Movement is restricted by light,
Summer is Wanderlust and joy,
Songbirds, Water Foul, Towpath delight.

I rent a small birth in Season,
To supplement my modest needs,
Sell hand made goods to Walkers,
Paintings, Trinkets, carved wood and beads.

My home I named Guiding Light,
For she shaped my destiny,
A wonderful life on the waterways,
No place on Earth would I rather be.
