No accountability
Is this what you support?
If so you're part of the problem.
The truth is the truth nothing more....
I hold myself accountable for all I've said. How about you?
Something to think about.
Elephant with pizzaz knew he was all that day after day
So glitzy that notorious drag queens had turned him away
He wanted to be in a show of some kind, so he was
It was shut down quickly by the jealous, the coppers, the fuzz
Elephant decided to rent his own meadow and have a sing
The other animals brought their lawn chairs to hear his ting-a-ling
He gave them a show like no other performer could ever have done
They came back and paid him money, because they had so much fun!
Elephant Santa was much slower than our old Santa Fred
You may get your Christmas presents in a week or two said Ned.
He’s slow, but jolly, said the one who had hired him.
He had wanted to save money, this skinflint named Jim.
We were not that happy about Christmas that year.
Some of us did not get our presents until after New Year cheer.
Elephant Santa was a sweet guy, personable and all.
But Roary raccoon got his Christmas presents in the fall.

AP: Honorable Mention 2026
Your silence is deafening,
As are the expressions you have yet to utter.
Ideas you mutter
Have fallen onto attentive ears,
One who hears
Conceptualizations you have yet to speak of
And notions you have only since dreamed of.
A supposition of love,
Perhaps not the state of being in love,
Leading to holding her above
The pedestal. For in this moment,
Her feet are too sterling
To be sullied by the dust
Left so carelessly on the plinth
That has yet been handled
Since the assumed maiden
Devastated your heart and abandoned it.
She left it vacant,
Allowing the new artisan to place gracefully
In her hand, the brush of crimson paint,
Renewing the color
That the crone thieved of you.
A warning is passed onto,
Sent so loudly
That your ears can't seem to
Indulge on the phrases.
Spells of dejection to offer many a protection,
Shouting to hold your deafening silences
And allow her to run mad.
For she can hear all that is unspoken,
Her understanding, unbroken,
But speaking it aloud
Leaves all emotions open.
The sun is sinking, low and gold,
a story's starting, yet untold.
The elephant is on the label,
but I'm the one struggling to be able.
It tastes like silk and velvet dreams,
or liquid gold and heavy creams.
One sip? One harmless kiss?
One bottle down? I am the hit-and-miss.
The glass is drained, the bottle light,
a gentle fog obscures my sight.
I see the elephant.
It stands calm and still...
While I surrender the heavy cost
for every velvet line I crossed.
Standing on the edge, ke kgojana ntle fase,
A small prince watching the world spin past me.Ka thoko ka thoko, I walk the thin line,
Searching for a spark, a breakthrough, a sign.
But the road is unforgiving, mokgotha o a nkgoromeletša,
Pushing me into the dark where the shadows gather.
Down into khwiti ya go lahlega, the lost abyss,
A place where the path and the purpose dismiss.
Gongwe go fela go sele, I pray for the dawn,
Waiting for the heavy, stormy night to be gone.
But the quiet is heavy, the silence is loud,
Walking through the noise of an indifferent crowd.Khupamarama e tletse ka mpa, the secrets I hold,
Unspoken stories, truths left untold.
It’s a weight in the belly, a ache in the chest,
A restless soul that is searching for rest.
Now moepologelong ke ribame, I bow to the floor,
At the place of digging, I can’t take any more.
The labor is deep, the soil is cold,
But this isn't the end of the story foretold.
Look closely, bona, I break through the shroud,Eupša seriti se tlosetsa ka godimo—above the cloud!
My spirit is leaping, my aura will rise,
No longer defeated
As my memory gives me fits,
an elephant never forgets.
It should come as no surprise
that a head of such huge size
holds a hundred gigabits.
My lil elephant
Tic tat tic
Tic tat tic
Tic tat tic
My lil elephant

Can do good tricks
My lil elephant
Can sing a song
Sing a song
Sing a song
My lil elephant
Can sing a song
All night long
In Sicily’s cradle, so tender and small,
A newborn dwarf elephant—no larger than a doll.
Seventeen pounds of wonder, pure and bright,
Born full of wisdom, with gentle might.
Eyes deep as earth, a soul wrapped in green,
Feasting on leaves where innocence has been.
Clean-hearted vegan in a world grown wild,
A tiny giant with the heart of a child.
Oh, cuddly marvel that time let depart,
You dwell in our memories, whispered from heart to heart.
A love that once roamed where the past softly wept—
The cutest lost baby the Earth ever kept.
(The AI title was “Whispers of the Lost Tusker”)
The elephant packed his trunk
ere leaving home with a load
and looked down his nose before crossing
to see what's on the other side of the road
as the tumbler pigeon
be it ever-so humble
when airborne
was compelled to tumble
and the spinner dolphin
without a care
continued to spin
while in the air
yet not one of them did such antics
to amaze amuse or impress man
but only and simply...
because they can
I am the matriarch
a mother elephant
chosen leader of my herd
I guide them day and night
for food, drink, and safety
keeping peaceful harmony.
Behemoth, dust-born grace
Gentle wisdom’s own face
Savannah’s ivory dusks
Rhythm of moonlit tusks
Beckoning our worship
And lifting Mother Earth up

Too large to avoid everyone knows it's here
not wishing to collide they won't stand too near
nor broach the subject they keep it under wraps
Mum's the word keep it under your hat
they all walk 'round it talk around it
they're not blind so what gives
it's unkind to animals and who wants to live
with an elephant in the room
too large to evade it's something they ignore
not wanting to impede but can't close the door
a line they won't cross they'll avoid it at all costs
just sit there and stare
even sweep it under the rug with a broom
but with lumps and bumps that big
how long can they keep on pretending it's not there
the elephant in the room
THE HEAVYWEIGHT AND THE FEATHERWEIGHT
Poem written for Ridiculous Comparisons Poetry Contest, Miranda Hawley, sponsor, July 23, 2025
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There’s the elephant, a lumbering titan,
a true heavy weight with a heart that beats like thunder,
each footfall a seismic event,
a gentle giant, who with the grace of a ballet dancer
could crush a car if ballet were performed in slow motion
and involved a lot of mud.
Then there’s the hummingbird—a blur of iridescence,
a caffeine- sugar- fueled acrobat, a featherweight warrior
who sips nectar like a drunken poet,
lost in a world of fleeting moments.
It’s a tiny, feathered daredevil,
with the attention span of a gnat.
