Veterans Anguish

Lyrics
Veterans anguish

Ain’t got no concentration
I don’t know where I’m at
I don’t go well with people
 I’m a solitary cat
So I just play my music
 all alone and feeling blue.
I’m a vet, I made that journey
Now it’s getting to me too.

I came home from those foreign shores
That’s when I seemed to change
It’s been some thirty years now
But still I feel so strange.
I’m not like other people
Since I served in Vietnam
Sometimes I don’t fit in
I’m just a solitary man

Chorus
My mind goes round in circles
My thoughts they run the show
And all of me is hurting
What’s wrong, I just don’t know.

So I just play my music
Anything to keep me sane
Or maybe I’ll just sit alone
And magnify my pain.
I make mountains out of mole hills
As I drown in loneliness
I worry, worry all the time
That’s what I do the best.

Written when I was suffering from PTSD, many years ago Peter

Superb lyrics on war and how it changes a man. PTSD an affliction that too oft has severe symptoms and continues a lifetime even after one survives the war. A gem and thank you for your service my friend.

Hi Robert So many people suffer from the wars that our leaders like to start which are mostly rubbish. I am a lucky one who has beaten that PTSD, And now I am a better man. I discovered that there is a power within each of us which can help us through everything. Thank you for your kind comments. My friend….Peter

Well written Peter, it does anger me that not enough is done to help soldiers returning from war zones'. There have been many suicides of soldiers returning from Afghanistan because they had PTSD. Tom.

Hi Tom. I can't really run down the government here. I get quite a nice pension. Although many are still fighting to get a pension. They tell me that in other countries like USA and England they do not get looked after. These war mongers send kids out to fight for nothing, so they should treat them well. Thank you for your kind comments, my friend....peter

"I'm a solitary cat" made me laugh. "So I just play my music. Anything to keep me sane." I wondered WHEN you wrote this as it sounded fresh, like you had come back from Vietnam a week ago. Thank you for clarifying that. PTSD is horrible, and I am sorry you have experienced that also my friend.

Hi Caren. I wrote that song at least thirty years ago, could be less, could be more. Every thing is experience, my friend. If it wasn't for that PTSD I would not be where I am now. Thank you for your kind comments, my friend. I appreciate....Peter

Thank you Heidi for your kind words. Most Vets don't like to write about their time in a war. But as a meditator I can easily write these things. Yes I could see that you have some memories of PTSD. or something like this. I appreciate your kind comments, my friend....Peter

wow, peter! this is a wonderful explanation of how the experiences of war never really leave you. my father served in wwII and never spoke of it, but he would often cry out if he was taking a nap and my mother told us that he was back in a foxhole when that happened...

Hi Ilene I can write freely about anything that has happened in my life. I was medic and saw some bad things, but the way I see it is the past is the past, and has floated away like the dust in the wind. Fifty years of meditation done wonders to me. I should think that most soldiers would not know how to free themselves in this way. Your poor dad must have suffered badly, bless him. Thank you for your kind comments, my friend....peter
