The world has been changing since I was young,
That is, in about the 1950s,
I would not recognise a classroom now,
Since technology became prominent,
Family dynamics are different too,
Women are no longer tied to the home.
Once women were obliged to stay at home,
Minding their children while they were still young,
And they would be cooking and cleaning, too,
That was the norm in the 1950s,
When feminism was not prominent,
Women had not the freedom they have now.
Most children also have more freedom now,
With fewer restrictions applied at home,
Classroom misbehaviour is prominent,
A great deal more so than when I was young,
Few "answered back" in the 1950s,
Parents were obeyed, and teachers too.
Communication was less easy, too,
No email contact like we all access now,
That was unheard of in the 1950s,
There was much letter writing done at home,
Way back in history when I was young,
When technology was not prominent.
These days the internet is prominent,
Most teenagers are using i-pads, too,
So many fun things these days for the young,
There are no laborious blackboards now,
And such things have disappeared from the home,
So much has changed since the 1950s.
I spent my youth in the 1950s,
When a book or board game was prominent,
Most of the time I was happy at home,
Reading, and playing with my siblings too,
So I can look back on the old days now,
To that dim, dark era when I was young.
