This chapter is an info-dump

This chapter is an info-dump -
So much to tell you! Pump-pump-pump!
Got scenes to set! Got big ideas!
Two thousand words should make it clear.

You know that thing, it can’t do that
because that other thing. In fact
it used to do that, then that other
thing occurred. Now don’t you love a

lot of facts in every page
to give you background, set the stage,
with histories and landscapes pouring
forth? No? What do you mean, it’s boring?

OK, OK, I’ll think again.
I don’t know why I waste my pen.

Avoiding the info-dump is one of my greatest novel-writing challenges. When I read the first draft to my son he cried, “Mummy! My head’s spinning!”

Hahahaa! Terrif poem, my friend... I can sympathize! I am in utter awe of authors who can evenly pace their stories with just the right (necessary) amount of information. What a skill!! I'm sure you will get it figured out- and it will be amazing when you do! ;)

Thank you very much Rhona. Yeah, to make it worse I have two intertwined story lines. Story A needs LOADS of explaining (it’s set on another planet) and story B is on Earth. So it’s like Story A: GOOD GOD I HAVE SO MUCH TO TELL YOU... Story B: Our hero files her nails. STORY A: RAAAH!!! STORY B: tumty tumty tum... Never mind, sure it’ll get there by edit 27!

Yeah my son is my editorial staff... he’s currently plaguing me for the next edit to see if I incorporated all his suggestions (he’s 8...) Thank you Mo!
