The Ugly Truth

When you fight with your best friend Take my advice Don’t tell them the ugly truth Because it hurts the most Coming from someone who knows you better than anyone else From someone who stayed up late watching movies with you Who snuck into the rental apartments your parents owned And who hid the smell of your boyfriend’s weed on the carpet downstairs The ugly truth hurts the most When it is coming out of someone who swore to protect all your secrets And someone who let you know them better than anyone else Someone you danced on the kitchen table with And went shopping all the time And someone you ordered pizza with because they couldn’t order on the phone without laughing And someone you swore you’d have memories with forever Someone who got along with your sister better than you Someone who marathon-watched American Horror Story with you Someone who was ten feet away from a bear with you Someone who got egged by the boys in your grade with you Someone who made you laugh until you cried Someone who made you smile when you were sad Someone who annoyed you Someone who cared about you Someone who loved you. I’m apologizing again. I’m sorry I annoyed you with all my apologies And I’m sorry You thought I was someone Who would be your maid of honor at your wedding And I’m sorry I won’t be. If it had been a better time Or a different circumstance Maybe we would still be best friends But I also know Even if its ugly, For my best friend I deserved Someone who loves me too.
