The Lowly Potato
When you’re down and feeling low
consider, please, the humble potato.
Consider with the power of your mind,
that, for all its many eyes, it’s blind.
And though a starchy carbohydrate
have you ever heard one curse its fate?
Lastly, to your diet’s envy and unease,
it loves bacon, sour cream, and cheese!
Yet, what other vegetable can you name
has suffered such an indignity of shame?
Or been boiled, mashed, baked and fried –
just to keep potato lovers satisfied?
