Musky fragrance inundates my nostrils as I enter the garden center: a rhapsodic feeling in idyllic surroundings. The air is humid like an Amazon garden, heat barely tolerable making my glasses misty. Soft music, dulcet and sweet, swamp the amazing conservatory. The caterpillar had shed off its chrysalis, and a perfect swallowtail butterfly appears. It fluttered here and there tasting the marvellous flowers around. My cup of felicity abounds. All around a miscellany of colors enticing the radiant buyer with anything that catches his fancy, and I, mad about plants, run in frenzy from pot to pot, stand to stand, plot to plot, inflame my smell nerves with sweet sapphire orchids, enchant my eyes with white bearded irises, become delirious with a blood red amaryllis, inhale the fragrance of a white gardenia, or lose my mind on a black eyed Susan. Which exotic plant must I choose? It would be my talisman for my home What shall I buy? A red pyramid astilbe, multicoloured plethora of petunias or scented forget-me-nots? Or better still a dwarf Deep red rose? I feel my empty pockets, I let out an ephemeral sigh, and go back home, empty handed alas. 20 October 2019 Placed 1 Writing Challenge, October- Flower or Flowers- Poetry Contest Sponsor, Dear Heart - Wiishkobi Ode

Oh, you did MANY flowers. I was thinking we do just one, but now I see the title of the contest is flower or FLOWERS. What a brilliant way you showcased them!

Victor, I love the way you describe the musty fragrance and humidity in the greenhouse. You mentioned a lot of beautiful flowers. Gardenias are a favorite of mine for their scent and they grow well here. I share your enthusiasm for gardening and know that "empty-pocket" feeling. A great entry for Dear Heart's contest! Winning wishes are coming your way. Hugs, Carolyn

My wife's the green fingered one but I do love a walk around a garden centre, so much colour and lovely smells of the flowers. Well written Victor. Tom.

Hi Victor - hope you are feeling a great deal better. We are moving eventually on the 28th of the month but packing up a house in which three generations have lived for the last fifty years is one mean task! Your poem is really splendid - your poetic craftsmanship unbelievable and your Sylvia's flower garden a destination of note. well penned my friend. Hugs, Jennifer.

Hi Victor, you paint such a vivid canvas in this excellent write from your pen. I also love flowers Victor. Roses shall always be my favourite. So many times, my sisters and I shall go to garden centres, just to look around at the flowers. I can relate to this beautiful piece Victor. A dance through your words does bring peace to the mind. Loved the content, Victor. Have a wonderful Monday. Your friend always....Mike. A Fave.
