Sugarcoating

“Life is like a box of chocolates.” But is it the life or is it the people? Every single person that I seem to meet Has on his own sweet sugarcoating Whether it be forcing a smile when times are hard Or faking a laugh at jokes when there shouldn't be any It could be living two lives Where to my parents, I'm a goody two shoes But in public I cannot be contained And these people try in every way To fit into the crowd But they don't feel happiness when we do They are not mad when we are In fact, they do not have feelings And their life does not have colors Instead, all they have is one giant grey cloud This cloud is what keeps them from speaking This cloud is what keeps them from showing what is really on the inside This cloud is what makes them feel alone And useless to our society I understand that life can get hard And not turn out the way you wanted But life is the host to its own game All we are, are just pawns that obey By this behavior, this sugarcoating We are making ourselves not trustworthy That's what makes it seem that we are useless and alone Because people begin to suspect that it really isn't a rainbow on the inside So why then do we smile and say our jokes? We are not being honest to our companions Not even to ourselves We lie right to the face of life For those of you who have fallen, let me pick you up For those of you who are speechless, let me listen to you For those of you who are sad, let me please you For those of you with a grey cloud, let me paint it For those of you who are lonely, let me fill your life For those of you whose journal pages are empty, let me write For those of you who are struggling, let me help For those of you who are drowning, let me save you For those of you with sugarcoating, do not during it when you speak with me Do not bring it when I pick you up, do not bring it when I listen Do not bring it when I paint, don't bring it when I write Do not bring it when I help, and never when I save The strongest relationships are the honest ones The ones that don't leave anything out I'm willing to have this relationship But are you willing to get rid of you sugarcoating?
