Pipe dreams
i grabbed my guitar and plugged it into my temper
i plucked out the perils one chord at a time
drop d tuned and out on the loose
im wearing my best suit
coloured with acromonious hues
and my butt kicking shoes
im dressed for the kill
in it for the thrill
i flushed all the pills and gave up the remedy
all for feeling this edgy synergy
with the audience
mouthing my words like prayer
they are aging gen-x-ers with the bends
and millenials with debt
my act of exposure on the altar of iconoclast
might be the cure that finally lasts
the crescendo of song
ushering a vertical horizon
a sunrise in the distance
the curve of the earth
encapsulating us all
hurtling through space
as i strum my guitar
and i can exhale the exhaust that was in my lungs
when i sucked on the pipe dreams of society
the methane within
turned to oxygen
i can breathe
i am free
