Once Held Sweet Emotion

When I experience a pure love unbound
Turns out its pain in disguise I've found

Again you've done it, to me now twice
Reminding me, that love has a price

Sitting once more, wondering what i did
Of these feelings, for me it does forbid

Had to be my fault, because you knew
Shattering pain, my heart went through

I blame myself, for the pain I receive
Tears blur my eyes, as i try to retrieve

Hands tremble and shoulders shake
Sobs overtake me, as does this ache

Pain shoots through from my fingertips
I bring my bloody finger quick to my lips

Being the final straw for me I collapse
I felt like an addict how did i relapse

Laying upon the floor, lights then fade
I look to the mess, my heart has made

Jagged shards lay upon the floor
It once was my heart, but not anymore

Shards turn to ash, removing my choice
Love cant return, says a familiar voice

To be able to move on, I cant comprehend
Seeing a mess, this time I cant pretend

I stand to sweep, the ash all together
Now my hearts beyond repair forever

Shaking my head, what was i thinking of
I let you break me and steal my love

Empty where it once held sweet emotion
To love again, was just a silly notion

Without a heart, I now cannot feel the pain
What's lost forever, you can never regain!

And love will never, ever again come into my life
I hope now for a peace, with out any more strife!

It is true that it is hard to even raise a smile when you are suffering such anguish and the dreadful pain of a broken heart. But if one day you find yourself quietly laughing alone about nothing in particular...then you can start and learn to love again. Your a born survivor, Brenda...and natural born survivors always come through. :) john Peaceful night...and sweet dreams. :)

John you know I once thought this poem true but it seems a heart can regenerate and I never knew that before! But I now see it can turn back into a living organ again! One capable of many things! As it is reborn it act as if it is a new heart again capable of loving another like the first time so thanks! But what once held sweet emotion can hold it even sweeter again! Yours Brenda

Although heartbreak is always so sad, I do love reading this kind of deep and emotional poetry, Brenda. The reason most likely being that I've been there. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. Thank you for sharing this. T.J

Love can be a gamble, Brenda! Things don't always turn out the way we expect them to, but you must not shoulder all the blame! May you find peace in life, though that does not mean that you give up on love! Regards // paul

Oft from the deepest depths of darkest sorrows rise the greatest of heroes my friend. A great many are heroes for surviving and some are heroes for even more. This poem to me displays that and even more. With hope lost, again the Light must be sought, for in such despair ones heart and gentle soul has surely been caught. A gem and a fav!!!

Robert you are the hero in my eyes for who else would take the time to try to bring some hope back to someone who truly feels there is none! But I will look for the somekinda of dim as it may be light back! I will look but at times feels a cloud hangs over one. I realize even in the rain at times a few rays sometimes break through and allows a rainbow so I will look for that rainbow in hope of a catching sight if it! Thanks Robert your words are warming at least it is not totally cold here!;) thanks so much!

Always true to form my friend, you bring the reader into the poem. And you reveal emotions that too oft others fear to expose. That is true poetry, bravery and light....
