Now and Then

Born in a city they call Good Hope The legend of Van Hunks and the devil A mountain covered in smoke A smoking contest in which Van Hunks did revel Raised in a village not too far away Where baboons raid the houses by day The surf is good, the waves crisp and fresh The Atlantic ocean, it never rests Moved to the city at eighteen Into an old Victorian house, its facade green Studied film, joined the scene Scriptwriting was the craft on which I was keen Changed to journalism not far away Had my say on the issues of the day Fell in love but it didn’t work out Something I wrote a poem about Worked in advertising for a bit Then moved across the sea To the land of sarcastic wit That’s where I am now, that’s all about me
