Mummy will be

Mummy will be cool, groomed and affable,
exuberant, unflappable,
meticulous and practical.

Mummy will be health-conscious, feminine,
unwavering on discipline,
engaged and ever-listening.

Mummy will be sweet, tidy, sexual
with energy perpetual -
relaxing’s ineffectual.

Mummy will be thin, fun and organised,
ambitious and well-exercised...
and silent as her spirit dies.

Who knew mummies we're so ambitious? I always assumed they just walked slow, arms out and growled ominously

A sexual mommy! No one wants to think about that! I am smiling so hard here, Nina, you go right to the source - the soul! Love it!

Well if mummy hadn’t been silly enough to be sexual in the first place there would be none of this to worry about! Mummy would be freeeeee to sit under willow trees in floppy hats and tickle her muse all day long - instead, mummy is cleaning the unspeakable “two small boys” toilet floor....

Interesting! I can not help but notice today that it is the children rather than the spouse or other women who demand mummy be perfect and to exist only for their pleasure! Aloha! Rico

Yes that is somewhat true - it’s apparently my job to ensure they are entertained. They don’t really buy the “boredom is the mother of creativity” line!!

I think the more children you have the less you judge yourself and coping with it all becomes second nature. Women feel they are expected to be all but loved ones dont judge us that way thankfully. : )

No you’re right Connie, but I’m not going to have more children to test your theory out!! It’s been therapeutic writing this... by seeing the dialogue in my own head it makes me see it for what it is... a bit mad!

Yes, women are expected to think of others first - it's OK to be a little selfish, you gotta take care of you! (btw, love your little frog avatar!)

Sounds like an ad from a 60's Vanity fair magazine. Hope we've moved beyond that. Have a great day.

Hi David, we haven’t really I don’t think - well not in our expectations of ourselves really. I definitely dwell more on my “failures” than I celebrate my successes. When I write it down, yes it does sound crazy.

Nope this is pretty much how I feel I’m expected to be!

Those lines had to end with drug addiction or death, and those lines had me grinning all the way thru. Yes, we Mom's strive for perfection that only magazine Moms have - and Stepford Wives. This clever poem is a Mom-therapy write, to me - its truth absolute. Your cleverness shows strong and clear. Poetry hugs ... CayCay
