MEASURES

Cubes of collapsing blacks Hemispheres once flesh Tiny thoughts becoming stars Someone becoming more than someone ; Measure me compassion The circumference of yearnings The depths of True Love’s well Sorrow’s weight in early morning sun A child’s fear of tomorrow The thickness of dread The growth of loneliness Desire’s imbalance from beginning to end How hate’s expansion fills The longing of Life for life The price of being good and evil both The endurance of touch ; Tell me Why death takes only the body , only that And nothing else ; Measure me the day’s eventual closing How mothering takes to smothering The width of kisses A moments speed and slowing The coagulation of a Lie Its sharpest point Its abilities Its surfacing Its strength Its power Its evil
