If we have to leave this place in future,
There will be plenty of work that must be done,
We have lived here for about twenty years,
Time enough to hoard a great many things,
Some kept for their sentimental value,
Some because they might some day prove useful.
I am not sure why we thought them useful,
We must shoe more discretion in future,
Getting rid of items with no value,
Although this will not be easily done,
One does tend to become attached to things
Which have been around for so many years.
Western Australia has been home fo years -
We had wanted to make ourselves useful,
So we both worked at a number of things,
But we did not meet until the future;
We used to talk about all we had done,
Exchanging views that might be of value.
We thought our relationship of value,
Which has proved to be true over the years,
Marrying is a good thing to have done,
Our partnership has been very useful,
But now we will have to face the future,
And come to a decision about things.
Reading is among our favourite things,
We consider books to be of value,
But we should not buy many in future,
We have kept so many over the years -
Books are not necessarily useful,
Though some of them show how to get things done.
Now we must decide what is to be done
With so many accumulated things,
Many of them are no longer useful,
Far too old to be of any value -
We have kept far too much junk all these years,
It is time we thought about the future.
