Australian Spring

A breeze is teasing the leaves on the trees, Rustling and hustling with consummate ease, Up in the branches there seem to be chances That restless young nestlings may take carte blanch, Spreading their fledgling untried wings, Feathers untethered, feet planted together, Absurd little birds, chirping and chattering, Father would rather find something to eat, Mother bird has preferred to keep the house neat, While down on the ground, tiny things crawl around, And after fresh showers sweet-scented flowers, Colours bright catching the sunlight, can be found, The seasons are turning and spring is returning, Greening with meaning where countryside's yearning, And the sun, just for fun, has climbed in the sky, As a few cotton clouds drift mistily by.
