A Bush Walk

Beneath a hazy blue sky
I walked down a grassy bank
My little dog trotted beside me
Across from us bush land dotted with
Gum trees, Banksia, Wattyl and Grevillia.

It was quiet with nothing but bird song
And the crunch of leaves beneath my feet
Until a cat dashed across our path
Hot in pursuit the dog gave chase
With feline agility the cat was up a tree
Looking down superciliously as if to say
Catch me if you can little dog.

We walked along the winding path
Between the bushes and trees
And there in the open space
We saw them-two boxing Kangaroos
Sparring with skill and agression
Vying for supremacy, the female to impress.

We wended our way back home
The glow of sunset lingered in the dusk
A long day enjoying nature's bounty
And giving thanks with a humble heart
For this unique and glorious land-Oz.*
