Thousands of wings

Fingers gliding along the sonorous wire
Captive birds inside get restive for the sky
plucking and flicking of fingers then continue 
At the still point thousands of wings are free

The Songbird Still Sings

They said the songbird
her wings twisted and torn
should quiet herself...
that the sky held no place
for the fragile or the worn.

Yet she kept a sky tucked inside her - a 
place untouched by any hand.
At daylight she let her voice rise
and though her body stayed earthbound,
her song lifted past the edge of flight.

The wind slowed to

Wings in Fire

I stood at the lip of silence,
where fear wore my own shadow.

The wind kept calling
not sweet,
more like a street hawker shouting my name,
dragging me into tomorrows
I wasn’t ready to buy.

I had dreamed of flight once,
but the ground held me tight,
and my wings felt sewn with stone.

The sky, a wide cathedral I prayed at,
but never entered.

I watch old geese fly -
First daybreak of autumn twirls
As  laughter runs by.
New morning---indeed
Wraps me in hushed embrace
A blessing I need!

Beneath waxing gibbous moon
like a river's flow
geese go gliding gracefully -
on their backs a glow.
As Luna shines on,
their winging is poetry
soaring into dawn.

A tired man surveys his field
in the morning, still.
Honking alerts his senses, 
giving him a thrill.
Can you believe these...
wild geese...with moon on their wings
dropped him to his knees?

gentle autumn breeze murmurs
summer’s farewell song
geese with moonlight on their wings
in flight and headstrong
across stellar sky
their honks a gentle refrain
never asking why

blackest wings scale higher than mountains

 Blackest wings, scale higher than mountains
in the chill of tonight's air,
scarred and bleeding from within,
determined to reach her lover's side,
A voice calls out to her voyage
but her vision gets lost
as it starts to drizzle and rain.

She collides & in such pain,
her claws trying to embed in the side
of the rocks but she keeps skidding

The wind remembers what I tried to forget—  
a voice in the fire, a name in the rain.  
I stood on the edge of the world I had built,  
watching it crumble,

If I had wings to fly,
I'd breathe in deep
and spread them wide
as I leap from the cliff
into the wind
where the seagulls glide.

Crossing this wide sea
I glide above cruel waves
that reach up 
to drown my flight 
in their cold and deep
blue-green graves.
