Close to the track's end,
Jumping over the last hurdle,
Hope stands beside us to stitch and mend,
Thoughts of unfulfilled desires saddle.
Walking through the end's door,
A few miles to go across the border,
A tick, a tock and more,
Each dawn chauffeurs us further.
Christmas is here,
A time to give and share,
Celebrating the birth of God’s son, loving and dear,
Sombre moods are dispersed by moments of cheer.
Cities and homes wear a colourful look,
There’s a global declaration of love,
Rancour is erased from the offender’s book,
Joy lights on us live a dove.

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree
How bright and cheery there you be
Your twinkling lights so numerous
Your chocolate baubles humorous
I stand and stare, you’re standing there,
With golden tinsel everywhere
Your shining star, how bright you are
You travelled from so very far
These neighbourhoods which have no woods
We love our oriental goods
So have no fear, we’ll keep you near
Up in the loft until next year
So Christmas tree, O Christmas tree
Your box, I’ve taped up carefully
But what is this? I must be pissed
I’ve found a bauble that I’ve missed

I took a walk in winter
And I gazed upon the hills
My burdens suddenly lifted
And my heart was free of ills
Around me swirled the snowflakes
Tumultuous as the sea
My soul felt lighter and lighter
As trembling, I fell to my knees
Mind flying with the stars
As feelings bounce and ricochet
The burning of my breath
Is by the cold washed away
I see the sights I never knew
Could be, through my mind’s eye
As lightning melds into sunshine
And the sea into the sky
The soothing coolness envelops me
As my thoughts slow and numb
As I lay, tucked away
I know my battle is won

What is the twelfth of never?
Where can it be found?
Is it at the end of ever?
deep within the ground.
Does it exist behind the eye?
of the endless folds of brain
Or is it in the fruitless cry
of an infant’s starving pain?
What is the twelfth of never?
Is it a metaphor or rhyme
that speaks only to the clever
not to belong to the sublime?
Is it something that cannot be reached?
beyond the human throng,
a code that just will not be breached,
ransomed drastically wrong.
These thoughts express a loss of loss,
uncertain in its end,
a definition madly tossed
with words of mere pretend.

Your music plays till the twelfth of never,
I carry grief with your heart forever.
I will love you as I do as time flies,
Soft songs of spring until forever dies.
This muffled place of your death done sever
A beat branch to your last breath endeavor.
Sublime, vigilance amber sunset rise,
Morrow's morning darkness, crush silent cries.

Some say the twelfth of never is an awfully long time
Like infinity multiplied many times over by infinity
How long it takes to find just the appropriate rhyme
When my oldest son will establish a solid identity.
A young lad, like me, longed for Christmas in May
Wondered if his school days would ever come to an end,
The nine months our parents waited for our birthing day
How long it will take for a festering family rift to mend.
The twelfth of never is an awfully long time, I suppose
Stretching beyond the measures of time and space
So, in all seriousness, with permission may I propose
That we practice patience and greet every day with grace.

On the thirteenth month on day thirty-three
Four and twenty blackbirds sang in a tree
In the darkest hour of mid-afternoon
The calf of that cow jumped over the moon
Little Miss Muffet and her wee little spider
Sipped apple strudel and ate apple cider
Pregnant again, the old lady who resides in a shoe
Twin-triplets she born, that makes twenty-two
The sister of Jack, beknown her name Jill
She left her water bucket on top on that hill
Then, the lamb of Miss Mary had blew young Jack's horn
When all four twin-triplets were finally born

The Twelfth of Never
On the twelfth of never,
When I saw the light.
Perhaps I was clever,
Perhaps I could fight.
My life force a lever,
Out of my sight.
On the twelfth of never,
The tunnel was White.
I walk forever,
In fault of my spite.
A heroic endeavor,
Extinguished my light.
On the twelfth of never,
I begin my flight.
It lasts forever,
A monumental height.
My body and soul shall sever,
To correct wrong from right.
On the twelfth of never,
I lost my sight.
Time became a sense of forever,
Eternal night.
The flip of a lever,
Will begin the White.

Excuse me, but I really don’t have time
I can’t stay I hope you don’t mind
Silly me, I’m always losing track
With your help I might get back
By a quarter to the twelfth of never
Pardon, could you point me in the right direction
Seems I’m at a crossroads, an intersection
I’m all turned around, quite lost you see
I know there’s somewhere I’m supposed to be
Sure I’ll try the corner of the twelfth of never
Forgive me, do you know when success begins
Or what a girl’s to do with all her sins
I’m afraid I may have missed my chance
Sounds like you’ll finally get that dance
When it’s half past the twelfth of never
Ope, I’m sorry I should have known
My one shot, figures, it’s blown
The wrong place, the wrong time, eh
Story of my life, well maybe another day
That’s right next year on the twelfth of never
Well see you later and thanks again
I’m sure I’ll give up, but who knows when
What’s your name , I keep forgetting
Failure, that’s right, it’s very fitting
Don’t you worry, I’m quitting.

When cheerful daisies fail to bloom in Spring
and the buds dry on the vine;
when the robin no longer attempts to sing
and the rivers turn into brine;
when the fireflies of Summer do not glow
and the rain can’t reach the earth;
when the seven seas cease their ebb and flow
and the ship is mired in its berth;
when Autumn loses its brilliant colors
and prevailing winds stand still;
when nevermore dwell ardent lovers
and hearts shed their romantic thrill;
when Winter holds no wonders to show
and the sun, no reason to shine;
when the mountain knows not of snow
and the stars refuse to align;
when you are gone and no longer in sight
and I no longer your face can imbue;
when your touch leaves and takes its flight,
then that’s when I’ll stop loving you.

The day before Spring break at school.
Three of us take forty-two sixty graders all over a college campus.
They are thrilled to be out of school.
We are all looking forward to tomorrow- Friday the 13th
Because it is the last day of school before spring break.
Thursday March 12th, 2020
A phone call comes in at five-thirty p.m.
School is cancelled tomorrow.
We get an extra day for spring break!
I rejoice when I get the call.
I am sure the students were dancing!
Thursday March 12th, 2020
One month ago today.
We left school that day blissfully unaware
That day would be our last day of physical school this school year.
Standardized testing has been cancelled.
Prom and graduation cancelled.
Thursday March 12th, 2020
A day that we had no idea that birthday parties would be cancelled.
Easter church services would be cancelled.
Two hundred page work packets would be mailed to students.
School employees would have to learn computer programs to go online.
Parents would lose their jobs.
Stores, restaurants, bars, clubs would be closed up.
The beginning of The Twilight Zone.

If music be the food of love, play on
Claim the streets of London be filled, and its revelry be still,
Purged the households, and bay at their homes window sills,
Let tender labyrinths yield their cleared halls be an open song,
Spilled venturous notes befall upon unscripted pages, play on,
The summer breeze aloft butterflies to mingle the redolent mirth,
To give it counsel, make talent its sheets filled a righteous worth,
Of length aches a theme a songstress indulge let it solicit a tune,
Nay, cease, the mood of sour faces, a mark that killed-joyous June,
Silence, and put a march to thy step for the mundane that disturbs,
The grimaces invade the room and the deafening silence perturbs.

J-oyful twelfth September
E-ntertains your heart;
N-ice feeling for the day
I-s not going to depart.
S-eptember twelfth is mirthful,
S-erving your mind with thrill;
A-mount of warmth is large, leaving behind the coldest chill.
S-eptember twelfth is cheerful
A-nd so exciting too;
R-apture fills the place,
I-mage is in good view.
C-elebrate the occasion
A-s I always remember;
L-et me gladly jubilate the joyful twelfth September.
