did you hear about the fat goat
who is captain of a small boat
when he sits down
you could possibly drown
it's a miracle it stays afloat...

Vignette-Windfall
Afloat ,in a small boat
a sudden levant arose,
each disciple in fear,froze;
A command-Peace ,be still--
The storm submitted to his will.

Moonlight Laugh
Napping on small boat,
adrift in the bay currents,
crimson moon rose enticing.
Red rays in the dark.
A shadow jumped like a fish.
Too indistinct in the darkness.
Did I hear a laugh in the moonlight?

Sailing
Sailing a boat
Out to the sea
Waves and wind
Rain and haze
Will carry us astray
Our ability to control
Is not that simple
Even a small boat
Even a small world
We can be lost
Sometimes
We can rule our hearts
But never our fate
And so
Never the rest of the world...

Over the River
Over the wide stretch of water flowing along,
In a small boat the lovers made their way.
Before them the river hurtled headlong.
Leaving behind the sullen shores, all their cares,
Enjoying the currents’ swing and sway,
The two, paddled along to seamless shores.

Shipmaster
Shipmaster
Son with the Air Force in Korea
As a child
you drew boats and ships
and kept their shapes in mind
while you were growing.
Large battleships safeguarding
a small boat
sailing fearless wayward
on the high seas.
Now you walk the actual steel
and feel real salt against your face.
I pray
for the continuing safety of
your sketched harbors...

Return of the Boat
RETURN OF THE BOAT
Waiting on the quayside at dawn,
Anxious eyes strained to sea
Their men home from o’er the horizon
In a still small boat ploughing
Through the mighty rough combers,
Now disappearing , now reappearing.
Glad to have them back home
From the deep unknown where
Only a wooden plank separates
Life from the depth,
As she crosses the bar
To ease down to the quayside....

A Small Boat
Drift a small boat with two paddles
In the sky above
Swiftly passes by the lake surface
A frightened swan
Clear blue sky painted with
The green mountains
All the beautiful scene is
Taken by the still water
Waveless lake shapes like a mirror
With countable fish swimming
In clear water
On the sandbank by the river
White birds take a leisurely perch thereon
Look like you
Look like me...

Changing Sky
as i wake in the still of the morning
the sky greets me with her crimson kiss
i board my small boat
left tied at the dock
the previous night
i set out navigating
across calm cool waters
as hours pass
the sky awakens in a
luscious ball of yellow
sweat drips from my brow
by nightfall
I am tired and chilled
as i row in
her dark beauty is breath taking
as the moon moves in to swoon her...

Far From Fear
In uneasy years
everything seems threatening
The walls can't drown out
the sounds which terrify us
Let us move far from fear
We need strength to
conquer the demons within ang without
We must lift up our eyes
see the sun and clouds above
Hope ane pray that there is
a power that preserves
We are in a small boat
in turbulent waters
With faith as our guide
Our small ship heades towards home...

Amongst the Trees
the deep water
of the lake
surrounds
our small boat
we float as it
were
watching the
changes in the
foliage which
stands nearby
Spring - new life
Summer - full bloom
Fall - the change of colors
Winter - white death
the deep waters
of the lake
keep us afloat
as the years
pass - we continue
to view
the trees
our boat
a landmark
on the changing
face of the
natural landscape...

Master of the Night
Sitting around listening
to some Bob Dylan tunes
I begin to realize that the cold night
will eventually
lose it's icy grip
on me
the viscous winds won't penetrate
my walls
Nor will the heavy
politics of death
destroy
the small boat
which I sent out
every morning
after testing the wind
The sounds and words
strengthen my confidence
it's definitely
true
that waves of peace
will conquer in the end...

The Torment of Her Affliction
Alone.... in a small boat... on a vast ocean
With her one hand, she holds the rope to a kite
The other, she holds the chain to an anchor
Desperately she has a tight grip on both
Trying to keep the kite from pulling her up
way up, too high up beyond reality
and the anchor from pulling her down, way down
way down deep, to the bottom of the ocean
A balancing act to keep herself afloat
Afloat... in a small boat...on a vast ocean...

Live To Tell the Tale Adult Content
My heart was broken
I was 7 when mum left.
He turned on us kids then,
more-so me;
I was thirteen and a half
when he tried to drown me.
Pushed-overboard from his small boat.
No one there to hear the splash
or the cries ,
except HIM.
I was pulled back aboard,
his conscience pricked.
that same night ,I ran away ....for my life;
Only I valued it,
I survived
and live to tell the tale.

In the Swim
The green hill
under the clear water is a reflection,
yet nevertheless
my eyes climb up its watery image.
I imagine that even the hull
of this small boat
is also swimming upside down
beneath the lakes surface.
Here comes a fish eagle
casting a winged silhouette
between waves of sunlight.
Boat, hill and eagle
are all swimming,
except my form,
which seems to be
rowing the sky somewhere else....

Washington Crossing the Deleware ( Ekphrasis)
Washington crossed the icy Deleware
In 1776, on a freezing Christmas Eve
In a small boat, rowed by trusted soldiers
The course was changed, so it is believed.
They struck a blow for freedom
And surprised the British troops
The Crossing captured in large scale
By the German Emanuel Leutze
Its grand in size, 24 feet long
You must stop and sit and gaze
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
This artist's work surely will amaze.
Emanuel Leutze..1816-1869

I Am Never Too Old To Start Again
There are so many things people can say.
All I ever hear is a worn out cliché.
They tell me to save money for a rainy day.
Well, I am in for some very stormy weather.
If I want to survive, I have to get it together.
There is a very small boat I stay afloat in.
I have to share the space with friends and kin.
Their arrows can pierce my heart without breaking the skin.
Things are the same both now and then.
I am never too old to start again.
For the “Get it Together” contest
