Early At the Post-Box
Early at the post-box collecting the news
trailing sleep
morning mist dampens my cheeks
a little chill
sneaks up my legs and into my shorts....

Lightning blinds minds eyes.
Thunder defens my lone heart
Static charged my pride.
Pouring rain drenched my sorrow
Cold dark winter dampens love....

Corruption
It is as old as time.
Yet not even age could
Dampens its destructive
Powers. Like the molten
Lava of an erupted volcano,
Every facet of our lives
It touches incinerates
To cinders...

To Japan
In the place of the rising sun
Where fasts break on sushi
And the sumo's size a delight

The earth wriggles – wets our kimonos
Took stuffs up to origami
And dampens muses for haiku

As the sunrise
We are in Nippon
Together!...

Premium Member Your Grown-Up Mood
The sky's slate gray
   It's rained all day
Though children can't go out
They don't sit around and pout

Kids paint, they draw
   They learn to cook
Curl up with their favorite book

So, if ever rain dampens your grown-up mood
Activate the child in you ~ Don't sit and brood...

Sunset On Rocky Top
This mountain's Rocky top
Catching clouds
Like fingers through the air
Dampens rhododendron blooms
And muddies paths we follow up
Always, going up

Daylight peirces smokie haze
Striking peaks
A Golden warmth across our face
Just enough to set for night
And sends us shelters way
Together, another day...

Quietly grow
Penny
Pennies
Into pounds
Cost of living
Breaking down

Digging
Chipping
Gritty climb
I'll come out on top
I'll work
I'll grind

Sometimes short
But never without
Thirsty commitment
 dampens this drought

Drip by drip
Collect the flow
Cup almost full
But don't let them know .

As One
Completely overtaken
Like stars shining bright
Expanding endlessly
Shimmering splendidly
Mesmerizing my mind
Hypnotizing me into a dance
Spinning
Surrounding
Enveloping me in his grace
Enticing me to follow his lead
Blades of grass slip between my toes
Dew dampens my skirt
As we step and twirl and glide
As one...

Premium Member Boston - City Snow
Boston
city snow
falls gently on the Common
drifts lazily across the Charles
slows the Red Line flight
of late commuters
dampens the bedding
of the homeless
muffles the distant tone
of well fed preachers
welcoming all
to empty churches
throws a pristine blanket
of cold beauty
on a sunless daybreak

Autumn Memories
across tree-lined yards
leaves dance in colorful frocks --
distant school bell chimes

through open windows
the scent of pumpkin spice drifts --
an orange moon rises

under charcoal skies
rain dampens mouldering leaves --
a lone snowflake falls

Premium Member Overcoming Pain
Within toxic seas
nonchalant eye sees
venom spread outcome
that makes our heart numb.

Slow strangulation
dampens elation,
though bliss strobes remind
us, we should not mind.

The role we enact
requires love and tact,
as our life's learning,
'twixt pain barbs churning.

With feet on firm ground,
bliss on the rebound
banishes our pain
and cleanses heart's stain.

Premium Member A Misty Shawl
Veiled by a misty shawl of raindrops a shy sun fails to show its face. And colored leaves fade fast for trampled underground they morph into mold as scarecrows sag, abandoned at their posts. ~ Rain dampens tinder hopes setting a mood oft fueled by gloom, summoning depression. And as Winter approaches a melancholy grey sky weeps for Fall, as it bleeds into the soil. (Double Nonet) 12-14-2020

There is a season for sadness rain darkens and dampens the mood. Darkness hushes gladness ~ There is a season for new birth rain feeds thirsty gardens flowers spring up from peaty earth ~ There is a season for warm sun rain feels nice to dance in holding hands with your special one ~ There is a season all is stilled rains splash on dying leaves The weary soul rests, and is filled

Premium Member Memory
the past recedes and what
was once a tsunami
of energy, exaltation and intent
or a depression of sadness and despair
play out into waves and troughs
of remembrance,
to ripples of recognition,
to a becalmed sea.
So too,
your resolve to remember always,
that awesome victory,
or deathly loss,
dampens down,
to the day you find that
you haven't thought of it
for years,
and now the details are
caricatures and cartoons that
you feel guilty and petty
for even mentioning....

Premium Member After the Rain
When sudden rainfall gushes here
A wharf’s landing dampens its floor…
Outside, inky cloudscapes appear
Like horse shadows crashing the shore.
Greater the pour as debris floats ,
Adrift through mist and teeming spray
While voyagers in painted boats--
Consider moorings a dismay.
Until gale considers to leave
As sunshine pours a hued beam
Enhancing the glitter of eve
As pilgrims land safely, upstream.

The Buffalo Grass
Blonde in the summer’s sun
Like golden dreams swaying in a sea
With each breath of wind
Dancing rhythmically

Thunder and pounding rains
Burden blades with sweet teas
That dampens the veins
And brings strength to the leaves

Glistening silver edges under the moon
Gives texture to the night
With dreamlike images
That spark blue moods to light

Ancient times bore the prairie lands
And blessed it with the Buffalo Grass
That seeds more than life
With seeds from the past...

Premium Member There'Ll Be No Rain
There'll be no rain the forecast said
til January's wounded pride
erupts upon the bloomless beds
and weeps a pewter morning tide.

There'll be no rain for many weeks,
just plenitudes of overcast
that burn away as daylight peaks,
when noon's anemic sun is cast.

There'll be no rain, no wet respite
to irrigate depleted earth,
just flaxen grass in withered plight
that dampens all my yuletide mirth.

There'll be no rain this Christmas Day,
just arid hillsides' umber splay....
