ROOTED IN TODAY’S SUNSHINE
     (A Haiku Trilogy)

The moon said, “bye sun”;
laid him in his horizon
to wake tomorrow:-

Perpendicular,
I rose between sky and ground;
rooted in sunshine:-

Today has been great,
tomorrow promises more:
yesterday, survived:-

Rooted Rising

I walk with books, not shoes of gold,
A dream stitched tight in hands grown bold.
From streets where silence fills the air,
To classrooms lit with whispered prayer.

Hispanic heart, both fierce and kind,
With stories etched in every line.
Though coins are few, my will runs deep,
I plant my hopes where others sleep.

The world may doubt, but I believe—
Justice is more than what we grieve.
I rise, I speak, I claim my name,
Not just to strive, but to reclaim.

With our soul’s valleys
watered with God’s wet spirit,

Rooted

Beneath the shade of a tree
On a blanket handed down
In shoes that are too big still
And a yard with untouched ground
Someday you will stand
To take your first steps here
Someday you will reach
And climb the branches near

Atop the canopy of leaves
When you’re looking low
Peer upon a flower bed
With springtime seeds to sew
Soil riddling our nails
Someday you and I will plant
You’ll offer to help with dinner
But I’ll still help you wash your hands

Rooted Life

Tendrils,
Twisted, reaching,
Sun-warmed leaves, fruit hangs ripe,
Man's patient and yielding journey,
Vineyard.

Premium MemberRooted: A Goodbye Letter to Chicago

Chicago, you rooted me down while lifting me up. Providing the nourishment I needed since I was a little stump. I’ve grown so much over the years and now ready to brave a new frontier.

My root system traces back for generations. Sprouting offspring that remained planted for decades while weathering life’s gyrations. For most of my time I thought I’d stay grounded too. But the time has come to cultivate fresh soil to sow some seeds anew.

The uprooting is stirring sadness deep in the dirt of my soul. Separating from my forest causing me to question if I’ll still be whole. Realizing why it’s so painful to say farewell is because the amount of strong oak trees I was surrounded by was so plentiful.

The sadness is sure to come and go even after I depart, however my Chicago roots will forever remain entwined around the frame of my heart.

Rooted

Our roots start, deep within our minds
That hold bodies and personalities of all kinds

Our families are here to help us see
The person we are truly meant to be

Deep down, within our brains
We keep up an act, to avoid the drain

And we strive to be Kind
Fore when evil happens, we shall not act Blind

Negative energy can cause something bad
Fore, we don't want to live our lives sad

So, we must know what is right
And push for it, like it's a life-or-death fight

From This Earth

From this earth, this dark soul

leaching to the sea, biding

in silence beneath the trees,

and by my calloused hands,

washed by sighs, fed on the

drip, drip, drip of need,

I have wrought a being

that might yet prove fit to be with

you. Come, till the soil of these,

my parched and stunted roots,

and let us shoot into the

green promise of tomorrow.

Home of the Illusions

Is full of concealment,
form, and void. A
plane of darkness
where immortals
descended from grace,
as their flames lay
buried under their temples
and forgotten by.

Intertwining within the
heart of matter lies
the key to hidden wisdom
hidden in darkness,
opaqued by the initiates.

Man's own unreality makes
him subject to the illusions,
as if he is a prey
of his own web.
He relies deeply upon
his faculties and go
against his own will as
he repositions his
chronological orders by
impeding upon the inevitability
as he becomes the cause
of his own effect.

Once the man soul
has ripened with knowledge
and wisdom, he is then
pluck like an apple,
ready to be harvested, then
assembling back to
the lake of fire,
from which he cometh.

Rooted Sadness

Rim of madness.
A cold draught
of unraveling shocking suddenness.
My grave morality is the subject of suffering.
Twirling reflections so rapid like
a rooted need for my sense of being.

My exulted mentality succumbs to a fever of dark passions.
This savage within;
narrows my reality.
Breathless and trembling as my conscience is stirring.
A cultivated rapture of darkness,
my primal peril of sadness diminishes.

My timeless death gave me formation,
a reality falls shattered.
It's a conflict of illusions of unprecedented expansion, so terrible and fascinating.
It diminishes.

As I grasp reality merely,
A dwelling? A realm? No, it's my rooted sadness.
I'm feeling disposed like a torrent flowing of turbulent emotions uncontrolled.
A grotesque submission of my mental sadness is forever impelled.
