cold brewed caffeine fix
facing head on the heatwave
~ uplifting delight
I reminisce about the sunshine days,
I listen to soul-lifting music,
Absorbing the melody and its message.
I remember my mother singing spiritual songs.
I talk with my siblings on the phone,
Recalling our memories,
Discussing the present,
And anticipating a bright tomorrow.
I sing under the vast sky,
Unbound and unrestrained,
In the tranquillity of nature,
As tears of joy and reflection flow.
I rise before daylight as inspiration knocks at the door,
Heeding its call,
I walk through a blooming meadow,
Emerging from the encrusted shadow.

a cool, refreshing summer breeze you are
your smile is like the fresh breath of nature
quiets thoughts of you so near even when you are so far
alleviates the feelings of my wanting to meet the maker
your skin against mine is like a smooth motion massage
the warm rhythms of your touch relaxes my mental
totally eliminated is my self serving mirage
the sweet kiss of the reality of you makes life itself feel so gentle
the moonlight and the sunlight merge to construct the perfect election
all memories of you are so happy, peaceful, and whole
joyfully and gratefully resurrected is my long since hibernated ********
oh, how your unique creativity soothes my rejuvenated soul
my love for you is as natural as the perfect rain
how i so give God Thanks each and every night for your love and guidance taking away the strain
the sun's caress glitters off your sultry skin
while a balmy breeze caught in your hair gives way
deep in your eyes is where i want to drown
basking in the taste of summertime sorbet
AP: Honorable Mention 2025
Sometimes the dry desert wind
Strips slowly the sandless skin
Of the soul
Gentle balm of the wide Spirit
Settling upon the surface
Singing a song of suppleness
Message of the mindful reflection
From the internal mirror
Of the heart
Home to the fruitful Spirit
Residence of the restoring, loving kindness
Of the refreshing riverside
Where solace comes, pacifying
With the sounds trickling and dancing
Over cool stones of thought
On a hot weather
Eating something refreshing
Makes me fresh all day.
Hi there, I’m your initial cup of coffee,
The one that jolts your brain out of neutral.
I don’t think you could survive without me
And at times, I know this feeling’s mutual.
It’s my purpose to get your systems working,
To tempt you out from the Land of Nod,
To guide you from the path that leads to brambles
Through pastures that past villagers have trod.
Yes, I am your very first cuppa,
I’m just one of your very best friends,
I try to sustain your brain functions,
It’s on me that your future depends!
I’m happy to stay to the side of the stage
In the shadows of the wings,
I will mingle with milk from multiple brands
Or those thin wooden, stirry things.
I won’t confront your weariness
Or your affair with Ovaltine,
I’m content to raise your consciousness
With a swift dose of caffeine.
So don’t take me for granted
I’ll be there as you grow old,
Awakening your palate
Whilst warming the mug you hold.
I’m thirsty
It’s hot
I order a cold, refreshing soda.
I can hardly wait
My tastebuds excited as they wait for the glorious liquid to envelope the inside of my mouth
Anticipating the rush of little bubbles exploding with fervor as they make their way down my throat.
The satisfaction of feeling the cold fluid colliding with my internal thermostat, plunging the reading back to decency
Refreshing my ever parched and dry soul
Only to swallow a flat, warm soda.
That has been my experience knowing you.
A billion
Droplets
Maybe more
That journey down
From skyward store
Replenishing our earthern floor
A million
Voices
Surely more
That cry and croon
With words they pour
Refreshing hearts a second task
As sky-fall heritage amassed
We listen
As you tumble down
Our hearts with joy you surely drown.
Your patter-tune since time began
Has played in wonderous heavenly plan
Cascades like no musician can
The gift
Of life you bring me, rain
In water, yes, but poet refrain
As land replenished, touched in parts
Seedlings, so endless story starts..
Thus tends to thirsty human hearts

18th August 2023
Light of the dawn brought the smile
I went to lawn to spent a while
The fragrance of the flowers, the cool of the dews
Let me fill my bucket with a quite few
Taking in a deep breath of the air new
Refreshing, it represents the nature's hue
Winter is leaving a patchwork behind
Woven lumps of snow, for spring to un-wind
Melting into flowing streams, easy to follow
Right on down to the river bend's flow
A place for my soul's revival, under tall pines, soft soil
A nice place of rest from burdening toil
I can imagine I'll be there pretty soon
Set a date with my muse sometime before noon
The river may show me something special to say
Bringing with its music, a refreshing, new day

Refreshing times, an oasis so bright,
Falling on us in this wilderness land,
Living waters pour, a pure delight,
Blessing us and families with a loving Hand.
Our dear kin we hold with grateful heart,
Knowing our latter shall be greater still,
As God's plan for our families will start,
With blessings and love that only He can instill.
In just one moment, new life He will breathe,
Lighting the path for future generations,
With cords of love that strife cannot unsheathe,
Binding us with faith and joyful celebrations.
The treasure box of love, we hold the key,
Lifting His worthy Name with praises above,
Our cry to heaven stirs a new move to see,
A new generation rising with healing and love.
This threefold cord, not easily broken,
Binds us with love, our hearts awoken.
When you are unwell
And your body is weak
Worries hang over you
When it's solace that you seek
No matter how hard you look
For quietness and peace
Your jangled nerves
And aching limbs
Refuse to cease
Feeling very sorry for myself
As miserable as I can be
There is nobody, but nobody
Can feel as bad as me
I've talked to myself all day,
Saying I could feel much worse
Nothing I can think of
Can remove this curse,
I sat looking out of the window,
Frowning and with disdain
When it suddenly started to rain softly
Down the window pane
I was mesmerised as the rain,
Commenced to fall
Harder and harder
Bouncing off the wall
And making puddles everywhere
It was so calming
It was easy to sit and stare
With the changes to the garden
The rain was bringing there.
Everything looked brighter
New and fresh and clean
Like all traces of dullness
And dust had never been.
Sitting in the chair,
I woke up suddenly
There was peace in the air
That natural view gave me
I now understand if I take time to rest,
I will be able to cope if I try my best.
Now is the time for us to receive
A great refreshing from the Lord
We breathe in Heaven's air
Feel its fresh breath, restoring life
As this season of big changes begin
The waves of glory come with the wind
The oil of joy erases our helplessness
Bringing peace, strength and joy anew
We thrive like a green house, our roots soaked
With stillness, peace and wellness,
The plans and promises of Heaven
Getting cultivated, activated and accelerated
As we soar like eagles, riding on the surge of Heaven
Moving into movements that never end!
