perk of being retired

I used to have a medical co-pay when I had a job
sometimes it was thirty-five dollars, other times it was seventy
Now I have a Medicare card and supplemental insurance
Guess what?
My MasterCard can sleep
there is no co-pay
no money from me required at all
really?
Wow!
Good enough
a perk of being retired

two thousand dollar insurance perk

My husband has a perk with his insurance
They provide two thousand dollars worth of free stuff a year
We think vitamins are included, they are not
We think Kleenex are included.
We are also wrong.
My husband discovers they have their own store.
Everything in this store is fair game to be free.
I sit at a computer for a couple

children perk up at the end of a school day

Children who can barely keep their eyes open after lunch
Whose feet shuffle and drag, as they cluster into a bunch
Yawners who struggle to not lie down and flat out snore
When class is annoying, dull, uninteresting or just a total bore
rally at the end of the day with a hip hip hooray

Taking the world by storm
Is not what one would expect 
From the birthing of a poem
Perhaps it is enough 
To know that inspiration struck
And for a moment 
You were one with

   A soda jerk I knew at work
   offered customers an unconventional perk
 
   When he pulled the handle on the Coke
     ~ Their seats would swivel, their rear ends twerk

slow motion
afloat
overhead

drifting
suspended over

Oh by golly, whatta show I just witnessed
Milady just showed me her arena of interest
Since I was wee
Made me go whee
Have no control and perk up in an instant

When the daylight comes I know,
after hours of rest,
I will have another go
doing what is best.

Use my time to finish work.
After this is done,
then I know I get my perk—

Sally Perk Your Coffee Pot

Please don't ask for coffee
when only a few will buy.
I'd rather not put on a pot
than leave it to burn dry.

So Sally won't perk coffee now.
It's not the time of day.
