I can sense
the creeping
overture.
t’s blasting
out windows
to the lawns.
Pepping up
an entire
neighborhood.

The sun is fading slowly, drinks are on the tray
Midsummer days are still, with skies of blue and white
The evening strawberries decline in cups of clay
Petunias heady smell spreads out tonight
It starts with mournful cry of gulls in twilight air
The overture of yours, that weeping chord!
Then comes a theme of oboe, I am there
To play for you, my love, the notes you must have heard.

Sing for me and make it a cappella,
an album of musical afternoons;
By the light of the old candelabra
with a pitch pipe harness exotic tunes;
Your voice a passport to a far off land
no need for any accompaniment;
Colorful suitcase let me hold your hand
I’m smitten by the vocal enchantment;
That accent so deliciously foreign
I want to lick it clean off of your lips;
When can we go to the airport again?
I revel in all of our first class trips;
The moment the last song is in the air
I’ve begun planning our next overture.

Encapsulated in a world of duty and obligation
I see no room for fantasy or imagination
no wind of September
can ever dismember
the longing I feel for illusion, fantasy and excitation
Only the stars of heaven can throw me a rope
at night when I sleep, its the only time I cope
the moon
is my woon
up there in the sky its the only thing that floats like hope.

OVERTURE
Overture is an opening and in music, it can be an
independent orchestral composition in one movement
or an introduction to an opera, extended musical
composition or oratorio, like Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
Overture is a prelude that I added in my poem “Music”
every time I recite it in Poetry Open or Poetry Reading.
I sing the first two lines of the song “With A Little Help
From My Friends” and the next two lines for my intro.
The lines I rewrote and sing as “Lend me your ears
and I’ll read you a poem I wrote to share with you”.
My overture for my poem “Music” is not written as
part of the poem as it is meant to be sung for fun.
It is an opening move to warm up the audience
or draw in their attention and get them engaged.
And why not, they get two in one, a little song and
a poem, so dare to add an overture to your poems.

the music serenades the midnight hour
opening the door to let you waltz into my dreams
you're suave you're smooth
how i wish i could feel the touch i crave
but it's this loop of an ethereal overture
that plays and plays inside my heart
as each night i rock myself to sleep
in the arms of an elusive lover

As you wait
for a turn of fate
to get things
rolling again
You pass the time
listening to music
while pondering
transformations solidified
into transparent discrepancies
relinquished by distinguished
personifications that are truly amazing.
You drift through
happy circumferences
as you smile,
gaze into the distance
of truthful overtones
that are resurrected
with the ease
of a twist of justifications
dampening your quest.

Stop me when you've had enough, I'm filled to the brim
Didn't plan this stuff
Flows out my butt
Tried plugging it, blasted out clear up to my chin

CINEMATIC OVERTURE
absentee teen had thrown money at mom,
due, but all the same simply unyielding.
a few days flew by, bird wings with no lullaby.
a movie dirge of unquenchable thirst —
replay of first few minutes, progress slow,
the clock hands click and clatter, a matter
of picking up the phone. a friend forfeits
her loneliness to come with her to the cinema.
she arrives ahead of schedule, but on time
“Hey, what are you doing here?” rings in her ear.
God pulls off such schemes for moms and teens.
a white dove delivers a newborn tune.

I’m treading on thin ice.
Misplaced my safety net.
Captured in this crooked paradise.
Your pants are catching fire.
Curiosity killed the cat,
Cause he thought he was a tiger.
Glued to your filthy habits,
You can say that again.
If you don’t stand for something,
You’ll fall for anything.
Words mean nothing…
You’ve got my blood on your hands.
You said you cared,
But you didn’t mean it.
Where are those angels,
When you need them?
Your arms trying to pin me down,
Just like all the monsters,
We read about in poems and plays.
When the curtains drawn,
Is when the show really begins.
If only people listened to the overture.
I keep telling them to listen.
Your voice inside of my head,
Filling me with your venom,
Like the villains in your comic books.
If you don’t stand for something,
You’ll fall for anything.
Words mean absolutely nothing…
You’ve got my blood on your hands.
I said I don’t want it,
But you think I don’t mean it.
What if those angels,
Turn into demons?
You didn’t care to help me,
No one cared to help me,
Nobody can.
If only people listened to the overture.
Why don’t they ever listen?

"TCHAIKOVSKY'S OVERTURE"
I watch her paint the lions under the trees
I listened to her sing the glory of love
I seen her playing on the frozen lake where
her sister fell in and became deaf
today she put a pigeon out of it's misery
because it had been shot
it was then she spoke of
heaven.
today she played the piano with her mother
today she screamed at the female who
stole her bible
today she walked in on her parents making
love and didn't understand
today she saw another female make a move
on her father
today she pushed her enemy off the slide
incidently she shouted she was from Russia.
now she stands by the red apples with a bow
in her
hair.
do you expect me to tell you her next move?
do you expect to find love from those that
preach it?
there's never a convertible inside a cracker
jack box.
keep an eye out for the next line.

When
The
Clock hands
Mark midnight
At the New Year Eve
Raise high your champagne flute and cheers
For the best and not so good moments lived in this year
Making an agreement with yourself of realizing the best efforts of progress

How many ways
Can I say to you?
With words
Or silence
The towns square clown seeking your affections
Coldness or warmth
Open your loins of desire
Bare your heart
Let me whisper
As I enter into you
I am you
You are me
Entwined
In the prison of freedom
The poison of love
The potion of eternal youth
Let me taste your lips
Suckle upon breast
Life
Lust
Love
My hand like a surgeon
Inside your heart
Mending broken wings
You, with no mask
Me with no words
Silence becomes the tomb
Of our love
