The little dog laughed to see such sport
And the dish ran away with the spoon
I stared at grandma as she read to us at court.
Wait! I said, the cow jumped over the moon?
Grandma looked less pleased now.
Yes, a gentle, good-natured dairy cow.
How likely is that? I asked I was not trying to be a snot.
She wanted me to take it playfully, but I could not.
I am studying to be a physicist or geologist you see.
If there is anyone who is scientifically-minded, it is me.
My grandma soon chose nonfiction books and carefully.
Which I understood much better said my cousin Lee.
He is over the moon for me.
I am his asteroid, he is my shining star.
We are going to travel the cosmos.
Possibly landing on Saturn or Mars.
I knew she would burn up, but I kept quiet.
Not liking her all that much.
one month after june
an eagle lands on the moon
stars and stripes festoon
was sunday late afternoon
neil the buzz and mankind swoon
By David Kavanagh
There's a soft glow about her
Bardic feelings she does stir
She waxes and wanes with time
Has changing moods in night mime
Sometimes, she's bright and happy
Sometimes, gloomy and snappy
Her humour affects the seas
High tides and low tides do tease
Her strength is seen in her scars
She shines bright among the stars
Enchanting like a woman
The moon is nature’s lumen*

*Lumen: the measure of brightness from a light source
For Chantelle Anne Cooke's "Is the moon male or female or both" contest
He curls his lithe frame around mine.
All arms and legs, a fluttering heart
As a little bird’s, frightened but brave.
I kiss him, he tastes like oranges,
fresh strawberries, and courage.
I smile the sun into his green eyes,
Braid starlight in his curls, lick salt
From his skin, the shore our bed,
Lapping waves our spectators,
Soaking us until he curves his back
In roaring bliss. I carry him
Over the moon into the sun.

Sometimes, when I speak to you
my true feelings I shyly hide,
to put them in a secret room
and keep them tucked inside.
Opening my heart takes time
it's a spot reserved for very few,
but, in it there's an empty place
that's perfect for me and you.
Your words allow me to dream
they send me right over the moon,
and I am drifting amongst the stars
even when it's mid-afternoon.
Your words charm like warm wind
they float to me like a tune,
my spirit is freed once again
and I'm sent right over the moon.
Never stop wishing on that star
though our future may seem bleak,
keep writing from your heart
and eventually mine will speak.
If you could've been saved, I would've been over the moon.
But you died and you were taken far too soon.
You had to have a hysterectomy and your left leg amputated.
You were in so much pain, it was something that I truly hated.
My brother and I had to end your pain by taking you off the respirator.
If I would've had a choice, I would've rather wrestled with an alligator.
When you died, I came home and licked my wounds.
If you could've been saved, I would've been over the moon.

Feeding from darkness
looking out
into space
at the warning
crescent moon
deep thoughts
in crystal clearness
Cold faced
stars twinkling
strong winds whistle
across the brow
a heart healed
with feelings
of deep love
blowing kisses
over snow
capped mountains
Shining in the night
you darling
dream turned emotions
deep feeling within
shines your soul
into this heart
with loves beauty
smiling inner visions
warmly howls out
to a mate
Hey diddle diddle
I don’t play the fiddle
But I do love to tinkle the keys
I play them with ease
Will you sing along, please?
The classics or a hip hop rock tune
But don’t get me wrong
My kids strum along
And the vibrations will shake up a room
The guys in my house
Shut their ears to my Strauss
While guitars knock the socks off the gloom
One plays the drums, the whole neighborhood hums
Though it might bring the cops on the run
Our little dog laughs
To hear such a blast
As our tunes travel over the moon

For Francine's contest "Tell Us Something We Don't Know"
I remember when you first lifted your head,
Expanding your sight beyond me.
Eyes wide with curiosity.
I remember when you crawled full speed,
Exploring the world before you.
Hands dirty from touching everything.
I remember when you could walk,
Then run, tearing through the neighborhood.
Feet moved like lightning.
I remember when you asked me questions about life,
Girls are curious creatures.
From crushes, to dating, then kissing.
I remember when you mustered the courage to marry,
Vows of responsibility spoken from your heart.
Children of your own following closely.
I remember when you told me you were proud,
Trying in vain to hide the tears that welled in my eyes.
Then you kissed my cheek and said thanks Mommy.
I realize the moon
Is not far, after I placed my arm
Around you
