In the predawn
Flashes and thunder wake me
And then it comes
A downpour that would make Noah proud
To have had the faith
And quicken the hammering
Of a few last boards
It’s been weeks but feels like months
Since we’ve had even a bit of rain
And this deluge provides the soothing calm
Music to my ears
Within the storm
(7/16/26)
Velvety fog of night beckons
I hear you calling out my name
Echoes since you’ve been gone

Jiving and jazz, razzmatazz.
Jitterbug then rock and roll.
Smooching while eighty years old.
Both tickety- boo.
Tinkling trickles everywhere - bathroom, rain and coffee pot
Roaring warmth from the heat source after clicked up one half notch
Old soles of slippers whisper tales to the hardwood as I stroll
Cars swoosh by, tires scrape wet streets as down the street they go
Open the drawer where flat ware is with a soft sandpapery glide
Spoon in hand, thick pouring cream, silent honey not far behind
In my mug, tiny circles burst with decorous plip
Gentle, rumbly, raspy snores from Kitty in her sleep
Dragon breathing gas poofs on, cracked eggs soon gasp then bubble
F sharp kabong when toast springs up, scorched bread is healed with butter
Contented sounds from fridge, computer – clicking, ticking, bleep
“We’re in good working order”, they say in the land where electronics speak
Vibrations bounce with ringing bells soft or booming in my ears
When noises cease abruptly, that’s the sound I love to hear.

This soulful song soothes my soul
It is music to my ears
Like a long lost friend
Coming back to dry my tears
Wrapped in the melody's loving arms
Forgetting my doubts and fears
Lifting my fallen spirit
Taking me back to golden years

relentless april rain's sonata thru the night
AP: Honorable Mention 2025
Dawn upon the naked endless beach,
my feet dug in balmy moistened sand;
indocile sound ebbs, wanes out of reach.
Most ebullient music to my ears.
Heavens forgiving out-pour with each
and every flawless refreshing drop
subdues nature; extends its outreach.
Sunrise I wait for your needed speech
that shines upon me soft tranquil pace.
Swinging from pregnant cloud, my toes reach.
Most ebullient music to my ears.

Poetry Contest; Music to my Ears'
Sponsored By: Silent One
At times, they come so few and far between...
my heart stops still until they start again.
Eyes open in the dark, I calmly wait
until I know for sure that all is fine.
Those seconds that creep by are difficult...
I panic, as they seem to last so long.
Then, suddenly...release from Apnea...
sound of his breaths...such music to my ears.

Note: I know...I know...
but he won't wear a mask! :(
When my beloved lost his battle bravely fought for many years
All alone in deep despair each day I drowned in my own tears
Then one spring morn, just before dawn, I heard the sweetest song
A blackbird singing his morning chorus, such joy not heard for so long
The song he sang had many words, expressing his love he waxed lyrical
I felt my beloved had sent me a gift; it was truly my morning miracle
And sometimes during summer evenings for his final curtain calls
His singing calms my mind like soothing sounds as water falls
He came to me a week ago, such a welcome springtime surprise
For winter time so dark and lonely a season I often despise
I had missed him so through winter’s snow and anniversary tears
Now thrilled my morning miracle brings music to my ears

We’re at the beach where seagulls soar.
All nature and sun’s warmth bring bliss.
I hear soft waves that lap the shore.
Sweet music to my ears is this.
At home, my cats lie next to me.
When cats are happy, they don’t hiss.
Mine sofly purr contentedly.
Sweet music to my ears is this.
The children are asleep in bed.
Their rowdiness I do not miss!
Sound’s silence falls on me instead.
Sweet music to my ears is this.
It’s late and time for some romance.
But first before we even kiss,
a favorite song for our slow dance -
Sweet music to my ears is this!

Raindrops on the roof, muted patters
Nature’s symphony in tune with the wind
Its soft music soothes the tired heart
And eases the stress of worldly matters

After sharing a bed for over fifty years
I've grown accustomed to sleeping by your side,
together, we've shared both smiles and tears.
You're my soulmate, with exclusive access to my heart,
and I'm at my happiest, just lying next to you,
we've never slept apart.
The best part of my day is sleeping with you at night,
yet, there are times when your breathing gets so shallow
I fear you've died, and I discreetly check if you're all right.
I'll reach over and ever so gently poke you
until you react, and when you do, I'm so relieved;
for my greatest fear hasn't come true.
Love has kept us together, for many happy years,
and every night before I sleep, I listen for your snore,
a reassuring purring; that's like music to my ears.
Effervescent elation arises and dances to ancient echoes; the rhythm of the drums heartbeat.
Champagne notes bubble into the night sky; night music of Gaia’s children is music to my sleeping ears.
Ethereal flutes singing to the crickets,
usher me into the dreamtime and there I awaken;
an ancient being, I heed the call.
I drum along; wings beating out the chorus;
I dance in skies of cotton white fluff.
Drums intensifying, crescendo as,
Native Voices sing my name.
I am king Thunderbird and my subjects saluting me…
music to my ears.

At the end of courtyard
A rusted pink bicycle
Lies lonely wearing patina of memories
I can't bear separation from
My adolescent mate
Once decorated with red butterflies
Is slowly losing the shimmers
Webbed carrier for all my teenage precious possessions
Holding all dandelions and golden rain tree blooms
Ah!that ringing bell
That I adored so very much
Riding with flair through pebbled boulevard
Up,down,up racing with wind
Through the hilly tracks
I rang and rang
Even when none were in sight
On silent summer afternoons
Today I tried to press the bell
The faint voice died in flick of time
It brought back flood of memories
To my arid heart's shores
Still is music to my ears
My bicycle's ding-ding
