More than just a soft toy

You were there when the dark
crept loud through the door,
when my tears made small rivers
that stained to your core.
You never once left me,
you never once frowned,
you just held my silence
till sleep came around.

Your fur is all matted,
your seams pulled apart,
but I know every thread
is stitched into my heart.
Others see fabric,
old stuffing, worn eyes
but they don’t see the love
that your silence implies.

I’ve told you my secrets,
the ones I can’t say,
and you guard them so tightly
they won’t slip away.
You’re my courage, my anchor,
my shield, my safe place,
the first thing I reach for
when life feels unsafe.

One day they will tell me,
“You’re older—move on.”
But you’ll never be gone, Bear,
you’ll never be gone.
Even if I outgrow you,
and tuck you away,
you’ll live in the child
who still needs you each day.

So I’ll whisper a promise
to your threadbare old ear:
wherever I wander,
I’ll keep you near.
For you’re more than soft fabric,
more than my toy
you’re the keeper of childhood,
my comfort, my joy

Premium Member She Looked At Me

It is National Happy Cat Month (September). Please consider adoption.

Cat: An incomparable companion that smoothes the bumpy road.
She looked at me with somber eyes
enchanting with her wily guise.
Hesitant love became her stance
as she wondered at her sole chance
by blinking lovely golden eyes.

Living life with abuse and lies
never knowing what love implies
cautiously observing askance,
	she looked at me.

Asking only for warm allies
and love that her bearing belies
hopeful that this is no mischance
and she may enrich and enhance
my cheerless life with loving ties
	she looked at me.

Premium Member Between

between

that way~~

Premium Member our platform had no newspapers, so i yelled at someone to throw one across the tracks

i need to know what's going on
we're barren over here, yet over there
look at them smugly reading the NEWS

'can you throw one over pal?'
he pretends not to hear me
and looks down the platform

he's pretending to see if his train is about to
arrive, thomas and friends, and it won't be
here soon, so wind it in

i give up and wonder why
platform 1, surely the pinnacle,
has been abandoned of any recreation

although next to my son
is a miniscule glass bottle of whisky
which implies someone was having fun without me there

has peace been achieved?
has the new plastic waste initiative justified government intervention?
how many wickets do we need this morning?

i yell these at the man over on platform 2
i am then taken away
and hope to be a headline in the morning

Premium Member Interlude

For Constance's Contest. 25/7/25
"Said the young man, I dont believe in magic - Replied the old man, when you first see her you will" Atticus.

Our time has come for us to slow the pace.
Just relax, enjoy each other's embrace.

Letting this rendition enter your soul.
And allow your thought waves to take control.

There is time to settle back, close your eyes.
Repose with restful calm, as it implies.

Immerse yourself in all my devotion.
To feel the power of our love potion.

Every offer of relief, not subdued.
Make time for respite, in our interlude.

Premium Member Subs v Dubs

In the debate between dubbing and subbing
I side with subs to savor the original
mellifluous French, Tamil, Korean, Italian...
Reading the subtitles assists the deaf
and hard of hearing although voiceovers
benefit the blind and vision impaired.
Historically dubbing was employed
by fascist governments to advance
the nationalist agenda. In our own time
the tendency to consider dubbers dumb
implies reading’s the indispensable skill.
My wife reads her mail while watching movies
so she prefers dubs. I admire her mastery
of two idioms simultaneously
but my limited bandwidth favors subs.

Premium Member The irony of mens life journey

The irony of men’s life journey.

Man sees first light through the gap between his mother’s legs.
He spend most of his life trying to slip back into a gap.

The baby comes into this world wearing a hoody.
A doctor decides that the hoody must go, snip, snip.

The baby, the boy, the man, the old man’s head exposed
to the elements, except when entering the holy of holy’s.

Over eighty years have passed, time and fate has altered.
Gravity and age has shortened the height of ones stature
and added inches, feet and pounds to man’s girth.
Old age, has shrunk the length of the head of the family.

Old age, and all that that implies, leaves a negative impact.
As man looks down at the head of the family, the family jewels.
All he observes is sagging sacks and the hoody he lost as a baby.

Size Matters

When I think of food and drink,
it's no surprise
the question does arise,
with booze some choose to let it breathe
and defer their bottle of wine,
I prefer to savour the flavour
and give mouth to mouth to mine.
(Que Syrah, Syrah!)
Some say, “The glass is half full,”
with accent on the positive,
some see the glass half empty,
and focus on the negative.
Two sides to every story,
supposedly that implies,
as for me I see
something else entirely.
And as for size I will apprise,
but, before I do, I beg of you,
allow me one more swig,
“Sláinte, salud, prost, cin cin,”
the glass is too damn big!

The Way the Body Remembers

Cliché: “Time heals all wounds.”
(Irritation: It implies passivity, ignoring the ache, the effort, the mess of healing.)

Better Version:
Healing is not the passing of time—
it is the choosing to keep walking with the limp.

Poem

They say time heals all wounds,
but time does nothing
without your hands in the dirt.
It just sits there,
ticks forward,
waits for you to move.

Healing is not forgetting.
It’s waking up and feeding the dog,
even when your ribs still echo
where the grief pressed in.

It’s stitching yourself back together
with thread made of old laughter
and apologies you’ll never get.
It’s watering the plants
even though you once killed every green thing
in the house
because the light hurt your eyes.

It’s how you flinch
when someone touches your shoulder
like they used to—
and how you breathe through it anyway.

Some days, healing looks like
coffee left to go cold
because you finally called someone back.
Some days, it’s just
not crying when their name comes up.

You walk differently now.
Yes.
But still—
you walk.

Trust Check

Trust implies openness
Mutual decency and honesty.
Trust is obligatory in friendship
Or romantic relationship.
Trust is based on agreement
Clear meaning of message.
Trust is core in life.
I trust you. I trust myself.
Trust is risk taker
Justify danger, warn vulnerability
Support emotional crisis.

Premium Member I Would Hug You

“Love 'tween all creatures can be felt;
their hearts, like ours, can warm and melt.”
                                               _by Poet

I would hug you, if you'd let me;
you stare at me with loving eyes
and watch me spread a snack surprise!
You now come closer, and I see
perhaps your trust will someday be
much stronger than you may surmise-
I would hug you!

A bond exists, to some degree-
your body language now implies.
Oh, gentle Deer, please analyze-
if you could walk to me with glee-
I would hug you!

Premium Member Stillness of Time

Written: March 18, 2025 for contest Sponsored by: Rick Parise

                 *****************

A tall tree stands quietly, imparting its tales,
dew drops fall like stars in the morning.
Flowers develop beautifully before tossing,
the sky gradually shifts color, to our avail.

Nature's ever-changing splendor is shown,
life's passing events are cleanly captured.
Solitude fosters heartfelt attraction backward,
stillness possesses what time implies on its own.

Watching seasons perform in their ballet,
dinge is a profuse nostrum nature may spray.
Every breath causes life to wither and sway,
leaves become gold and then float away.

Within Slumber Time

Within Slumber Time

Once again awake at night
Peaceful sleep, out of sight
Monkey mind, such a fight
Faded memoirs lost in flight

Queries race within my mind
Seeking answers hard to find
Feelings and thoughts combined
Fantasy and reality intertwined

Fearing scenarios not yet to be
A certain future you cannot see
Or from a past you cannot flee
Certain words you don’t agree

Lost time, as daylight softly dies
All the queries in all that implies
Worrying seemingly multiplies
As your anxiety amplifies

Questioning a reason nor rhyme
Of fond memories lost in time
A feeling of euphoria so sublime
All succumb within slumber time

Padidia

Papadia
Strange implies that the thing or its cause is unknown or unexplained; it is unfamiliar and unusual: a strange expression. That which is peculiar mystifies, or exhibits qualities not shared by others: peculiar behavior. That which is odd is irregular or unconventional, and sometimes approaches the bizarre:
"a folded pizza made with their original dough, filled with various toppings, and served with a dipping sauce. It's inspired by the Italian flatbread sandwich called "piadina."

Person 1 -To act Silly, Strange or Weird Papadia
