A distant memory upon the winter breeze
The spring scent of fertile chessnut trees
So broad and strong standing tall against the storms
Producing bushels of sweet sustanace and burs of thorns
I remember when I stood so strong against the wind
Branching out to produce and provide a home and win
There were many storms and burs of thorns
That produced sweet sustance of memories adored
Like the nuts of that tree my family is scattered
I am alone with not much that matters
The tree was cut down by those who knew not its great worth
Nothing left of it to remember but grass covered earth
One day I to will go down, only a memory in someone to be found
And as the tree I will be grass and ground

I care I search your eyes in the morning
when love was found sweet on grass-covered dew
neath' the rays filtering through, now warming
the courting of passions fell into view
How soft the vision of your face at dawn
surrounded by the gab light of silence
where a picture of paradise is drawn
as the eyes of the soul offer guidance
We'll claim this moment as a memory
and devour the emotions we've nourished
keeps us in a dream state of reverie
that stays when the morning's light has vanished
We welcomed the choice of our surrender
We have tethered our love to forever

Late afternoon sunshine streaming
Through the swaying green net
Of this years growth of hedge
I’ve not got round to cutting yet.
Got to get my finger out
Because I know it’s best
To get it done and dusted
Before the birds start to nest.
The grass has had its first trim
It’s looking lush and green
The garden’s starting to look
The best that it’s ever been.
Last year I sunk a small pond
At the sheltered edge of the lawn
With a bit of luck this year
We’ll have plenty of frog spawn.
There’s a Dove in the tree
And it’s gently cooing away
I can hear voices of children
Squabbling as they play.
Hard frost this morning
An almost magical sight
Seeing the grass covered
With a coat of gleaming white.
This is semi rural Yorkshire
As afternoon slips into night
On an early spring day when
Everything has been just right.
You can wander the world
Always searching for more
I’ll stay and enjoy the beauty
Found outside my back door.

In Halloween week once the days have turned dark
He lurks where the lamplight cannot leave it’s mark
And late night dog walkers whose dogs do not bark
All steer a wide path as he harvests the park
By day he is nought but a grass covered mound
But a light in the night would show flat level ground
His nocturnal quarter a shady enclave
And there he will wait for the dim…. or the brave
This giant whose mouth is a ravenous cavern
To vacuum up strollers too long in the tavern
Each rushing home to an ill-tempered wife
He fillets their bones with no cleaver or knife
His yawn reveals hundreds of stalactite teeth
His tongue is as rough as a storm ravaged reef
And with hunger sated he shall not be found
As he rests for a year as a grass covered mound

Spring arrived, softer than the paling dawn
Wildflowers flourished across verdant hills
Bees were swarming, lush grass covered my lawn
in the season of splendor, as God wills
Glints of gold sunlight gleamed o'er pastel skies
Bird trills filled the air with resonant song
Life was a color palette through my eyes
On wafting breeze, monarchs fluttered in throng
What a joyous time when hope is renewed
Every living thing seems pure and pristine
Nature revived, and its beauty imbued
My heart is content and my soul, serene
God enfolds us in clement alms of Spring
The gentle season after Winter's sting

In the heat and rain , upon tracks rusted and bare
A little red trolley sits, remembering former days
Of horse drawn carriages, filled with new marriages
Of clanging bells and merry people,
Doing chores,or walking into stores
Rolling hills and long tall steeples
Weathered stones in grass covered cemeteries
Busy times filled with haunted memories
Rising from the haze of long forgotten days

You left the garden in a mess.
Strange thing for a gardener.
But they say those with trades
leave their own home last on the list.
I remember rolling up my sleeves.
On my knees rolling like a carpet
the grass covered paths.
Between six raised beds.
And the shed full of discarded things.
Paint boxes, boat engines,
strimmer cord, trailing ivy
and electrical items that
no longer carried a spark.
In the dark of my broken dreams
it seems the garden wanted to heal.
I toiled and sweated in a blissful state.
Pulling weeds as if in prayer.
Uncovering tree roots along giant rocks.
The resulting bounty now
reflect those tears I shed.
In their center they carry
the memory of my hurt.
Their beauty bringing a smile.

Summer Has Gone
The green grass covered wet like tears from autumns sky, the red orange and amber brown golden leaves fall gently from the trees, to be moved on the wind like that of a mothers breath who wishes her baby gentle sleep.
No clouds above to be seen, just the movements of birds heading to new places filled with the heat of a warm loving sun, while darkness covers this land so early leaving nothing to be seen.
Summer has left to be replaced with the coldness of empty and broken hearts, promises not kept just the hurt, the creeping of a winter that now fills lonely dreams.
Soon a blanket of white crisp snow covers this land, that once was filled with joyous sound across rolling valleys up and down hills near and far. Oh, how cruel is the time, it's veil pulled tightly close, a blanket of memories left behind; the only thing of a summer now gone.

SUMMER BREEZE
Sweet summer breeze
caress me like two warm hands,
flow around me and through me,
embrace me like a warm sea;
play soft near silent melodies
on the grass and in the leaves.
Spare me the strong, cold wind,
the steadily increasing,
howling crescendo of early winter;
that biting coldness on the hands,
chilling dampness to the bones.
Winter whirling, screaming around my ears,
to become a thousand demons of anguish;
life doomed to ice and forever barren.
Bring back my spring with its coolness
only of green grass covered by shade;
bring back this warmth so comforting
and love me like a pampered child.
Knowing that time can not be altered
I will sit and dream my futile dream;
to forget the spring of my youth lost to war
my fate to never see a youthful summer.
What else can I do but dream in vain
since time itself will not be altered;
destiny decrees what I will lose
to begin my awesome early winter.

And the time stood still,
As I wore a crown of Daffodil
Laying beside you,
Among the grass covered with dew.
Listening to your heartbeat,
Remembering the day we met.
Watching the sky change color,
And becoming it duller.
Enjoying the beauty of nature,
And wondering if you were a stranger.
Even though you are not really present,
I am enjoying the very moment.
In the world of my imagination,
But not under the effect of hallucination.

THE SCENT OF EARTH
Modern cities have grown in all possible direction
Captured by construction, expanses of soil aren’t seen
I live in a concrete jungle, our avant-garde creation
An uprooted tree, at all times I feel suffocated within
I wish so much I could go back where I had once been.
I remember fondly the green hamlet where I was born
On my eyes childhood memories hang like framed picture
The grass-covered land rolled with trees to the horizon
The land and the sky made for me an enchanting pair
I grew up there imbibing the pristine elements of nature.
After the scorching summer when the first rains fell
In relief the parched soil sighed exhaling the scent of earth
Embraced me with aromatic arms of nature I knew so well
The scent still wafts in me, nobody in city knows its worth
With the first rain I’ll return to a green land in my next birth.

We have given, we have taken
we have watched the blooms awaken
We have ended, we have begun
we've been warmed under the sun
We have doubted, we have believed
we've seen the trees release their leaves
We have gained, we have lost
we have seen the green grass covered with frost
We have seen many things through the years
we've said goodbye to some we held dear
We have rejoiced in new lives awaking
we've seen history in the making
We have integrity, we are strong
with that strength, we will go on

Creek Bed,
water flowing around rocks,
bubbling through craw-dad holes,
churning, splashing, racing to lower ground,
sloshing about in the mud.
Creek Banks,
tumbling of rocks and dirt,
scratching, crawling to get out of the creek bed,
snapping, ripping of sod from the edges,
clods of earth and grass falling with a thud.
Brick Pile,
clanking of terra cotta,
rubbing of baked clay surfaces,
against small, dry, dirty hands,
dragging of sack cloth across the grass, covered with bricks.
Back to the Creek Bed,
more splashes: clods of earth and grass in the water,
bricks slapping down on wet earth,
water squirting through the brick holes,
showering down into a deepening pool.
Dad,
scuffing boots in the dirt,
angrily pacing this way and that,
shouting at the top of his lungs,
“Where are all my bricks!!!”

I see the sights and hear the sounds
I can see the life that everywhere abounds
I hear voices of those who want to talk
I take the hand of those who want to walk
I see the clouds floating aimlessly on high
I hear the wind whisper its hypnotic sigh
I see the drops of water on grass covered dew
I see the sunset when the colors come in view
I can taste the flavors of many different foods
I can see right away I don’t have so many moods
I now do all these things with a purpose I mean
I can do all of this because I’m sober and clean
