Pin drop silence
Maybe am tone deaf
They have no licence
Causing me more grief
My cup, my bag's full
Couldn't give a hoot
O'er my eyes wool to pull
Adjusting my suit
Waxing hot and cold
Eloquent then mute
They join the fold
Down the ol route
I look around at all the stuff
I’ve purchased or created
To fill my home; it’s quite enough
That I’ve accumulated.
My husband lets my choices rule,
Especially my quilt work,
For he would have to be a fool
To share if some critiques lurk.
I never used to think about
Where all of it will go when
I’m gone, because, without a doubt,
There’s no way I will know then.
My children will not give a hoot
About my works of stitching.
My efforts they will not dispute,
Though that won’t stop them ditching
The pillows, hangings, tchotchkes, art,
Plus photo books and keepsakes;
All these tucked inside my heart
Will win the dumpster sweepstakes.
Since I will not observe it, there
Will be no tears or clashes,
But in my mind, it isn’t fair
To turn my stuff to ashes.
the peculiar looking bird is a swimmer, a real water lover
we see him and wonder if we’re seeing what we ought-er
he turns and I notice that his beak is a startling crisp paper white
he has small red dots, and he looks formidable, cagey and bright.
What are you called? I ask the bird, but he doesn’t give a hoot.
I find out from my Nigerian friend that he is called a coot.
There's a lot to be said
for silence
but you won't hear it from me
I'm satisfied tongue-tied
as the less said the more I see
and even if the point is moot
'tis a wise owl
who don't give a hoot

Freedom Lovers
Know you not…that freedom is not free.
In each genaration, work at this assiduously!
Poets cringe at the any poem politicked?
They prefer rainbows as a subject, it makes patriotic, poets, sick!
You don’t have to go on a journey very far away,
To know there’s a country where you cannot have your say
I ponder if you would really give a hoot?
If somebody put a muzzle on your snoot?
Unless you develop a heart of steal.
Liberty might be gone, that your heart, made of mush, cannot feel.
So don’t allow brainless hordes, to scare you to death
Fight for every freedom, till you’re very last poetic breath!
If no one seems to give a hoot about a poem you've written,
try reading it out loud to your dog or to your kitten.
And if, as you read it, all the while,
you see their tails wag and their faces smile,
it was worthwhile ~
at least ~ from where they're sittin'.
“Hey,” said the cat to the mouse with a hat,
“I should like a hat like that.”
“Well tough,” said the mouse, “they are just for mice.
I’m afraid they don’t make them in your sice.”
“Oh drat, said the cat, “just wouldn’t you know it.
(And, by the way, you’re a lousy poet.)”
“I know,” said the mouse, “and I don’t give a hoot.”
And off he ran, with the cat in pursuit.
If you’d been there you’d have found it quite merry.
Just like a scene from Tom and Jerry.
Owloysius met Owllison and they fell in love.
Their wedding was a hoot and a holler!
Owlice told Owlan she wanted to wed.
He said, “No! I don’t give a hoot about THAT!”
Owlex hid from her at the hootenanny
as Owlyssa checked every nook ‘n cranny.
For those who love love
Put up your hands
Wow! There sure are a bunch of you guys
I knew there was a lot of you
But this is totally amazing
Saw one person who didn't raise their hand
But she was holding a bag of groceries in one arm
And a sweet wee babe in the other
But I did hear her yell, “I do!”
So if everybody loves love
Then how come there's still so much strife
Is it because we get all wrapped up in stuff
Superficial stuff that we shouldn't give a hoot about
But because of all the negativity present
Small things tend to annoy us
And when they all add up
They become a difficult mountain to climb
Take heart all my dear dear friends
I have the answer... attitude!
Yep, it's as simple as that so give it a shot
And let this old guy know
How it all works out for you!
~ Judgment Day…
Well when we're kneeling there before the Lord
he won't give a hoot what color's our skin
He'll only care if we've opened our heart
and if'n we had let his love flow in
He'll look fer the cowboy who has stood tall
when he was tempted to go ‘gainst the good
Who was counted on to help his brother
get through their troubles anytime he could
One that prays to God for his guiding hand
so he might help his brother find the way
One that loved his neighbor even though they
look different or had something else to say
The problem it seems we just view the world
in either black, white, yellow, brown or red
But when we have to make that final stand
God won't see our skin but our soul instead
SAMMY
Love and joy felt enter my life
day saw Sammy arrive.
Suddenly emptiness vanished,
once again … felt alive.
Sammy gets extra comfortable
especially on my lap.
And I welcome his warm body,
when time for bed … or nap.
Under chin against my chest, that’s
the way we go to sleep.
Soon cuddle in curve of my back,
positions all night … keep.
Sammy’s lessened my loneliness,
love loudness of his purr.
Blood pressure Doc’s seen get lower
when sit … and stroke Sam’s fur.
Sam’s Improved quality of life,
my mental health, to boot.
Those don’t believe this possible,
guess what? … Don’t give a hoot?

I heard the owl call my name,
and tried to answer just the same.
Not sure he thought my efforts cute;
at least he didn’t give a hoot.
Undaunted, I did then resume;
as he flew off, he asked, To whom?
looney like fresh fruit
China never did give a hoot
at balloon would shoot
we had been enduring
countryside balloon touring
problem could be curing
balloon like owl would growl
wondered what was rational
of trail resembling towel
what we would admit
after water when it hits
balloon became tiny bits
fingers cold and nimble
balloon had caused us to tremble
we would reassemble
Rabbits go dancing in soft moonlit meadows;
Field mice, less boldly just waltz in the shadows.
Moles and shrews surface, but can’t see a thing;
Young thrushes and sparrows take flight on their wings.
Fawns go cavorting in wide open spaces.
Turtles shed shells and run naked in races.
Owls so enthralled that they don’t give a hoot:
Provincial living’s exceedingly cute.
Crocus choirs raise color-filled hallelujahs;
Queen bee lays eggs because that’s what she does.
Pansies and bloodroot are no longer dormant;
Solomon’s wardrobe ne’er held such a garment.
Young kits leave tree nests and begin exploring.
Cross Old Man Winter is finally snoring.
Temperate days have moods on the upswing;
Nighttime’s for frolicking when Mother sings.
I am a carpenter bee; I feast on your redwood deck
I am a flying wonder who will boldly stare you down
I don’t give a hoot that I’m destructive, what the heck!
While you sit on your porch, I just love to buzz around
Give me enough time and I’ll eat your whole deck away
And I’ll run you out of your beautiful, expensive home
What’s it to me? I have nothing better to do all day!
I see you’ve tried that pesticide foam, I will not roam
For I have hundreds of eggs laid in those cute little holes
And I plan to stay around until my children are hatched
You have your tasty redwood porch, but I have my goals
So, when it comes right down to it, you’ll be dispatched!
