Consider the man in the street if you will
what's he doing there standing stock-still
maybe like the chicken he's crossing the road
and half-way over with nothing better to do
only slowed to admire the view
perhaps he's pushing his luck
for remaining stationary no doubt about it
he'll be hit by a van car lorry or truck
let's hope it's not so as hearing them coming
the man in the street beats a hasty retreat
making hay he hits the ground running
and his narrow escape's a clean getaway
to dawdle or dilly-dally down all his days
in my head thrives a world of fantasy
under a moon within the next galaxy
where I live amidst trees and rocks and sea

tropical island
far away from most people
enjoying the view
Bertie the Turkey made a getaway
And got down on his knees for thanks to say
Bertie knew that his fate
Was to be on a plate
Being gobbled up on Thanksgiving Day.
Bertie couldn’t get up on his legs again
He was old and his knees were causing pain
His language became fowl
He threw in the towel
For the Turkey trot had all been in vain.
There is a happy land far far away
filled with captivating whistles;
Disoriented as high as you stay;
Stratospheric,
glued into a poetic disarray;
Fearless optimism? Enduring combo;
Head to toe in a glow you slay,
it’s like you swallowed a million crystals;
A creative mind is an everlasting getaway.
A dazzled getaway and a lost soul
An imagination so earnestly cruel
Midsummer paradise of love
Made a parody of the land over once they drooled
Nature was forgiving
Soaked it all in
But the perpetrators swore to never give in
As they took away all opportunities of caregivng
Barren lands never bloom
Strangled by nature
Had made the land a widow too
Fruits of love had turned ugly to become a matter of despise
Only if the Prince had gripped his soldiers on the last ride
New beginnings must surrender
As we must confess our gentle reader
They would poison the land again
With atomic waste continuing the chain
More friendly, the further
Away we get.
Even the stars, cities yond
Smile the brighter !
Detracts not from what, in
Love is freed up.
Nor for intenseness, what's eyed
Then of lover!
I need an escape
to the Exuma Cays
so I can navigate the tropical seas
and leave my footprints behind
on the unspoilt sand bars
in the glorious sun !
Written by : Mia Pratt,
With plates and words in anger flying
My wife and I now deem it best
To cease all our screaming and crying
As I check into the Motel Goodrest
I arrive and plop down for a blissful night
But for two hours a car’s engine revs; varoom!
Above me screeching shouts; a lover’s fight
And the loud thumping of the bed in the next room
A frantic eeeouu; a cayote cat snack?
Now the zzz-zzz of a neon sign on the blink
If I had any brains I’d start to pack!
But I sigh aaah; into slumber I sink
Sun shines through the drapes and onto the wall
There’s splish-splashing in the motel pool
It was a calm, restful night after all
Yipee! Now everything’s cool!
I hear a loud clomp-clomp; what now?
There’s a moo so low and mournful
Through the window peers the eyes of a cow
Looking a bit weary and scornful
I pack and flee as if for my life
Passing the cow whose bell clangs and claps
I check out and meekly return to my wife
And spend the weekend taking naps

Written in Onomatopoeia
Tan skin and smile lines.
Breakfast diners and strong coffee.
Soft breeze and salt-encrusted waves.
Lowered windows and strange songs.
Dripping ice cream and picnic tables.
Inside jokes and evening storms.
Good books and toes in sand.
All these things go hand in hand.
My ROAD TRIP this weekend is much needed
My threshold for patience has been exceeded!
Staring at 4 walls at home alone is the worst!
I need a getaway or my brain will burst!
The love of my life was always there when I needed
Now that she’s in heaven I’m seriously impeded
I’m so glad poetry is my venting outlet
Otherwise I might often break out in a cold sweat!

Topography- embrace its meaning
Open roadways- visually gleaning
State boundaries- further we'd proceed
Connect-the-dots- we'd follow their lead
Deepened creases- a wider landscape
Artful tearing- revived with clear tape
Thumbprint dirt stained- unplanned souvenirs
Revisited- discovered frontiers

Lets plan an epic getaway
We’ll have to go on foot.
We’ll need to take this hairspray
it’s important how we look.
We’ll need some Dr. Pepper
dehydration is the worst.
We’ll take these Disney glasses
so that we don’t die of thirst
We’re facing certain hardships
so I’ll bring potato chips.
The wild is full of harshness
ooo! Let’s not forget the dip.
It’s important to move serpentine
as we stealthily make our leave.
Be sure and grip the pizza
as we deftly bob and weave.
This makeup bag’s gigantic
but I can’t live without that!
Let's not forget this blanket
and we better bring the cat.
I’m glad that we’ve decided
to start our lives anew.
There’s no one I like better
here, take these iPads too.
As we gather up the needed
I glance at the TV - AAAwwwwww.
“Ladybug’s” coming on! we say excitedly.
“Jinx” we say together, and it’s as clear as it can be
that we can take a little break and not go immediately.
Step by step we
Seek what we see
Journey to find
New sights that bind
Come to seek proof
As fest funds proof
Watch how joy speeds
Cast of good seeds
Watch movement bring
Fond laughs that spring
Time frames a touch
As joy brings much
Here for a while
Bloom a clear style
Watch how smiles wing
Such lovely flings
Things may look strange
Surprise greets change
There is a way
To meet each day
Love fashions scope
Live faith and hope
Dare to endear
Love with good cheer
