I’m over the “I do nothing wrong” people
I’m over the “when I hurt you sit there and take it but don’t you dare do it to me”
Life is precious but some people just suck the life out of me
I gave the wrong ones a chance to be around me
So many of y’all coming into my life was everything but God’s doing
I was so patient with some that just took my loyalty as weakness
I gave you my all and in return you flaunted other women in my face
Then when I did it back you looked at me with disgrace
You got mad because I called out your shady ways
You blocked me because I wouldn’t be your little slave
I didn’t know being in love meant taking everything and being a doormat
I’m tired of the one sidedness
The “take my crap and smile through it”
I can’t stand you for hurting me when I was genuine with you
All I wanted was love and you want someone to control
I’m over it
I’m drained and so done with this
I want to be away from you
I know I can do better than you

Smoke until my eyes burn
Unforeseen circumstances occur
Forget to eat forget to sleep
Remind my heart to beat
Magical flaws in fountains
Rules of strength flaunted
Breathtakingly steep, so steep
Conjuring colorful plumes
Thought-provoking imagery
How can I create it
Yet I cannot feel a thing
Is there a tangible difference

What can I give you, my sweetest lover
You, who have flaunted the world to me
Unleashed the chills, and the thrills that cover
The fluttering earth and the howling sea?
What must I give you, my sweetest lover
I ought to requite the things you gifted
My desperate soul you restored and uplifted
Responded with passion to its dying plea?
What shall I give you, my sweetest lover?
This wretched gift that breaks the heart in me
I bid you this so you may discover
I have hit the road — left my lover free

Oh, I wrote it for the glory
Now I’m feeling kinda whorey
For again I came up short
She got half of what she sought
For the pens of others reign
From the Jordan to the Seine
While mine at last report
Just cut against the grain
But I wrote it for the glory
My sadly pensive story
Full of lies and sweet deceit
Prostrated at your feet
For the rules so boldly flaunted
Resound like empty houses – haunted
As the scratching of my pen
Makes Shakespeare spin again
So, if you write just for the glory
The outcome may be oh so gory
If those fifteen lines of verse
Went from somewhat bad – to worse

A band of comrades rather strange I think you will agree
This oddball bunch together shared a commonality…
The panda didn’t pander to the niceties of style
He wore his usual coat which he had done for quite some while
The zebra was a Libra with an eye for what’s in fashion
She loved the skin she’s swaddled in and flaunted it with passion
The badger was a cadger but he didn’t want your suit
He’ll cadge your lunch but he’s content with being so hirsute
The puffin felt like nuffin with his massive beaky nose
But still he kept his chin up for he rather liked his clothes
The magpie wouldn’t lie although he was prepared to steal
His virtues might be fake but his apparel very real
The Penguin was depending on a chance to show his class
His haute couture was something that was absolute top brass
The skunk just stunk, not all the time, but when occasion rose
His looks were good but he was quite offensive to the nose
The orca wasn’t happy to be so far from the sea
Though he was quite a corker in his shiny livery…
So when they met the parrot they tried not to put him down
But one of them just had to say… “Did you come as a clown?”

Some say I'm soulful,
Others the Devils tool,
One minute I might find you doleful,
The other acting quite the fool.
Yet that's patently unfair,
One aspect that I can't abide,
For I'm as pure as the morning air,
A child of the gentle ocean tide.
You may not think I live, but live I do,
Spawned in my cocoon of flames,
I thrive, but then die too,
Often amongst angst and conflicting claims.
My pedigree is strong,
Admired and always wanted,
With me you simply can't go wrong,
At times even something to be flaunted.
Your forebears held me close,
I'm privy to their secrets,
Through me their lifeline flows,
Despite them lying with the crickets.
I'm a chameleon, color is my muse,
I change according to my company,
Treat me well, never abuse,
For at my core a fragile symphony.
Where I came from no one knows,
But the world is my own oyster,
Having neither friends nor foes,
Life itself is what I foster.
Now you ask, who can I be
Someone quite so clearly needed,
Look around and you might see,
Generations that preceded.

*A very loose form of Limerick,
but Mabel deserves lots of syllables.
There once was a waitress with the name of Mabel
Who used her bosom as a restaurant table
Beneath her double chins
Mabel flaunted her twins
The one on the right, Cain and the left one, Abel
The locals knew not to make fun of the lady
Ol' Teddy swaggered in, looking kinda shady
He taunted her with smut
She punched him in the gut
That's the last we all saw of Teddy O'Grady
Mabel looked real nice in her crimson ruffled gown
Two cups of coffee; 'pon her boobs she set 'em down
And when I smiled at her
She said, "Thank you, sir"
I left her a satisfied tip of a half-crown
When eating lunch, Mabel never uses a plate
Don't insult her by declaring she's overweight
Cause she'll call you a lout
Chew you up, spit you out
If you tell her she needs a train to move her freight
Mabel's knockers would put the Grand Tetons to shame
But they're the reason she's in the town's Hall of Fame
She wins beauty contests
With her grandiose breasts
I think 'Melons Mabel' is a comely nickname

I found envy
in the windswept field
filled with bright buttercups
and pollen laced gusts.
Tall grass thrashed
where the angels flashed
and flaunted silver wings.
Made of faith,
exuding grace.
I found rage. Eyes
tied to weights, awake
lying next to carrion
a convulsing vulture ripped away
Her ivory dress, caked in gore
the bald bird always needed
more
I sat silent in the grass,
moping. Hoping it would pass.
Needing something to be the bolt
to shock some sense into me.
Lone atop the hill, it was
just my luck.
Lightning struck.

I quake it seems while in my bed
To wake with screams still in my head
I shake with dreams I cannot shed
That spake of deeds best left unsaid
I'm haunted nightly by a ghost
And taunted slightly by it's host
Undaunted rightly not to boast
Or flaunted mightily coast to coast
I seek to dwell here day to day
So meek a shell now here I lay
Too weak to quell it anyway
To reek in Hell I cannot say

The kiddies would giggle and clap
The turkey flaunted his dire flap
He would spin and twirl
With a giddy swirl
Thanksgiving never was a trap
We had once a flattered turkey
Whose plumage was oddly quirky
He swung with such grace
A smile on the face
Bear Thanksgiving blithe and perky

all we wanted
was a sneak peek
then lust fangs flaunted
piercing heart, fickle and weak
come back, oh time from your flight
that we may undo our feral past
savage instincts soul’s blight
but destiny’s die was cast
heart filled with remorse
within womb of life we atone
feeling pain pangs borne of force
exchanging roles, reliving horror alone
spherically experiencing heart’s emote
we live and learn to align with love
cleansed soul rides God’s boat
becoming His peace dove

While bouquets flaunted their fullest bloom:
roses and lilies I assume,
I only saw gray, black, and white,
consumed in disbelief.
While friends and kin folks gathered around,
with hugs and gentle words profound,
my heart was cast into the night,
dull conversations brief.
While we beheld his bodily form,
no longer was his presence warm.
Decay had set like deadly blight,
the demise of a leaf.
While moments hold the weight of years,
collections of ten thousand tears,
I dream we'll meet, beaming with light,
redeemed from life's fierce thief.

Time was, just a pretty face faced stare,
Figures flaunted nor were busts so bare,
Rears today rule the roost,
Get more than a fair boost,
But today but when bums blare, front gets a fair share.

Poet’s note: Today style rules over substance and package pulls more than the product therein. There may be windows of exceptions, but why, I wonder, derrieres are in news more than any other feminine asset?
