If a camel is the ship of the desert
then speaking equally
a ship is the camel of the sea
altho' a camel can go without water
for up to seven months
a ship without water on which to float
is neither a barque a barge nor boat
as the camel needs food
to get over the humps
it seems like a dromedary
conundrum to me
but if by chance
I'm struck by luck
and the lottery I should win
would that I could buy a ship
if I may I'd like to say,
"That'll be the day
when my camel comes in."
"A camel is an animal which all of us should thank,
if we were desert travellers far from a water tank"
This was dictated by my 95 year old mother, from her childhood in the 1930's. I am trying to find the rest of the poem, but my searches have come up blank!
If anyone knows this poem, I would love to hear from you.
The camel, when drinking of tea,
Takes sugar proportionately.
For each of its humps
It drops twenty lumps;
But more, if it’s sailing by sea.
We travel through the sand dunes,
And look for oases,
At nights we see the moon,
And in the day-time- Look for roses.
The weather so hot and cold,
With sand below glittering in the sun like Gold,
We feel the hot sunshine,
And for a drop of cool water-We pine!
Our camels look for a shelter,
And our skin sweat like being next to a heater,
Yet we carry hope and move on,
And that hope and our thirst to reach our goal makes all our pains gone.
The dromedary camel has one hump,
and the Bactrian camel has two,
but I always get them mixed up!
Do you?
So, just for a bit of fun,
here are some alternate names for camels.
(Feel free to pick your favorite one!)
One alternative, after some study,
could be a handle like "Dune Buddy".
Or we could suggest, without fear of rebuke,
an appellation like "Desert Duke".
While sipping on some apple cider,
I thought of this one: "Sandy Strider".
And my friend, an avid motorbiker,
has suggested "Hump Hiker".
Here's a basketball reference that's worth the money.
How's this for a name? "Camelo Anthony"!
And a medieval reference which we can allot
would, of course, be none other than "Camel-ot"!
A friend went to Morocco
And she rode a camel there.
I saw the photos and I wondered
If I’d take that dare.
Another pal’s in Egypt
And, on pictures she did post,
There she is atop a camel,
Looking happy and engrossed.
As a child I rode a camel
When I visited the zoo,
Where it walked around a circle
As it somehow learned to do.
Yet, to ride one in the desert,
Decades later, feeling old,
I’m not certain I could muster
What it takes to be so bold.
I am planning a vacation,
But the place I hope to go
Has no camels and no deserts,
So I guess I’ll never know.
It was a Christmas outdoor Pageant
It was the performance of the Nativity scene
There was a Camel who was mean
The Camel didn’t want to cooperate nor associate
He went berserk and went wanted to attack all the onlookers
Suddenly without delay, the Camel observed the Doll baby Jesus
In the manger
An immediate pause took effect
To everyone’s surprise, the Camel kneeled to the manger
The Camel wouldn’t move and it was as if the baby Jesus informed the Camel to be still and calm
After a while, the Camel responded it was ready and it was like nothing ever happened
The Christmas pageant continued without any further problems
I and everyone witnessed this not being part of the show
It goes to show, miracles do happen
A camel can become humble
Warm heart can take effect
Holiday treat
Holiday breezes in the air
A true story beyond compare.
Hey- what'll you do if you're left alone,
and it's not all, on a hot and dry land
Where nobody is nix known?
Listen to a camel's heart-
Camel, storing all its strength in its hump,
and looking very-very smart.
Camel resists in desert's dirt,
Can you think how much he envied?
He's often called the 'ship of desert':
This is because of their
Ability to navigate the harsh desert
which sounds awful and mournful
But never mind, it's all desert's scramble,
So hats off to camel uncle!
A wonderful animal
That command great
Unpretentiousness
An irreplaceable friend
In the desert.
red land harsh terrain
animal transportation,
arid hoofed taxi
I had a camel named Kit.
It was smart, but liked to spit.
I asked for a kiss.
It gave me a hiss.
It did not want to kiss one bit!
Somethings You never know
Sometimes you have nothing to show
Tears in those eyes
Comfort city on the brink of misery
Killing fields the dreams of you and me
Desert sunshine warning you how things are going to be
Give in to glory my little can of spam
Leaving a ledger of love upon a tree
generation far away from where we begun
I can't tell you how to how to live
I can't tell you who to love
Killing a life of horror.
Killing a life of monkey's hope
Tied to a chair
breathing liquid air
How do you see this world
Not explored nor swayed by cruel intention
Tears in your eyes
Killing field
horrors camo to the endless nightmare
sitting next to medusa
with her snakie weaving golden hair
Dial a dream
Fall into the pit where emptiness frees loneliness
Centripetal force a hurricane inside my brain
Sarah's so desperate to remember your name
The world wind of street camels haste
At arms instinct taught war
Left the saving for ideals never born
To recall what you hate the most
Inside a dream inside a smokey gleam
of hope
Gimme your best shot
Why the hell not
And let the both of us
Play an unfriendly game
Of pick up Camel
Straw's and stick's
And the winner
Is or will be decided
By whomever
Break's as many backs
As either you or I
Or at very least
Failing that
Gets the most backs up
And being it's a Camel
It sure as hell
Has to be at very least
More than the very minimum of 2
Otherwise what's the use
We may just as well
Play
Water
V
Sand
And see who eventually makes it
Out of the desert
Full of sand
Onto beach sand
And then we can quibble
And compare
Sand
V
Sand
As we die of thirst
As neither of us
Can drink or survive
On salt water
Proving the point
The only thing 2 stupid people
Will ever agree on
Is when
And after
That are both
Dead
The other may have in fact had
A valid point
But saying and admitting that
Got your nose out of joint
So ouch so
You had to ram home your point
Visualize Mexico’s Baja Peninsula
Let’s take a camel safari in Cabo San Lucas
We will hop on a hump
Might see pods of dolphins and whales
While we are on our leisurely stroll
for camels do not run, they walk.
Giving us more time to enjoy the beautiful Pacific Ocean
If I had a camel
a nice dromedary
there'd be all sorts of things
my camel could carry
A big bag of sugar
up there on his humps
to put in my coffee
just one or two lumps
If I had a camel
we’d go on long hikes
We’d stroll through the forest
or maybe ride bikes
If I had a camel
I’d have a big sack
of sunflower seeds
right there on his back
Then we could both chew them
and spit out the shell
If I had a camel,
man, that would be swell
