Everything I buy is delivered in enormous trucks
not milk, cheese, meat and bread, right? asks a naysayer.
No. They are delivered in a car by my butler, Bucks.
Because I do not like to go into stores, said the mayor.
box store drills were eighty dollars and up
we stopped and priced them on our way to sup
Guess I will order one on Amazon, husband finally said
We got one for fifty, and she is pretty – pink and red.
When choosing clothes, some people buy
Whatever seems to catch their eye.
They always pay the asking price
No matter what, and don’t think twice.
That isn’t me, for without fail
I’ll check to find out what’s on sale
And if it’s pricey, I might splurge
If on that day, I get the urge.
As far as stores, the upscale shops
Will not be on my frequent stops,
But nor will be a tacky store,
With schlocky clothes you can’t ignore.
I guess I like the middle range
When I decide I need a change,
So when I feel it’s time to go,
I’ll check out clothing stores I know.
Buying was an obsessive hobby of hers
She was an avid collector of stuff
Her house was filled with unopened boxes
She stacked them to the ceiling and used paths
Most of her new things were never unpacked
Left for distant relatives to discard after her demise
I bought time after paying the cost
A fleeting win chasing moments lost
A trial fought a mile walked
Each step a price each breath a tick on the clock
Nerves grating sometimes in fear
I didn’t win I shed a tear
Not in sorrow but relief
To still be here however brief
Working hard to earn some more
To purchase time just as before
Beg borrow steal the years
Moments filled with joyous tears
The past is set we can’t rewind
But through toil and grind we bend the hands of time
Nowadays, to buy a couch,
You make your choice online,
By picking out a fabric, color,
Size, price and design.
You do not have a way to tell,
When shove comes after push,
How it will feel once it arrives
And you plop down your tush.
So yes, you can return it
If you don’t like what you see,
But be prepared to pay
A rather large restocking fee.
I know there still are stores around
But few and far-between,
So I will roll the dice
To buy a couch I’ve never seen.
Days pass and I wait for something fantastic to wake me up out of this dull moment in life- it just hasn't happened yet
Roundtop Gallium arsenite
Silicone
And
Germanium

A world
To see
A world of usage

Morti Martha was from a bigger town
A glitzy town, a jazzy town, Las Vegas.
She had been a showgirl; is what I was told.
Not by her, but by many others.
She had visited our church once, and her clothes sparkled.
Rhinestones in church! Some of the staid members were askance.
I thought she looked ritzy and fine wearing sequined plastic baubles.
She wore an elaborate headpiece to her first PTA meeting.
“Is that gold leaf?” someone asked. A few tittered.
I thought Morti Martha looked gorgeous, so I sat by her.
“I love your headpiece,” I told her.
“They are the ones that started the rumors,” she said.
“I am buying in to please them.”
Aunt Martha had a knack for doing a lot with a little.
I spent a day watching her purchase a plethora of baskets.
She bought an assortment of sizes, colors, and shapes.
What in the world was she thinking? She already had enough stuff.
A week later I visited her, and saw she had turned them into wall art.
It was amazing and wonderful; something I could not have visualized.
What do you think? She asked me.
I thought she missed her calling.
She should have been an interior design decorator.
Reliability is hard to come by, I hear a sigh
Product insurance is offered when you buy
Manufacturers do build obsolescence in
Sellers know you’ll be coming back again.
Product insurance is offered when you buy
The appliance is not meant to last forever,
Sellers know you’ll be coming back again
A dependency dealers are reluctant to sever.
The appliance is not meant to last forever
Malfunctioning when you need it most,
A dependency dealers are reluctant to sever
Their product is the very best, they boast.
Malfunctioning when you need it most
You are forced to buy a replacement,
Their product is the very best, they boast,
But, now it’s in a box in your basement!
You are forced to buy a replacement
With the same promises and guarantees
But, now it’s in a box in your basement,
Life is a vicious cycle of these certainties.
With the same promises and guarantees
Product insurance is offered when you buy,
Life is a vicious cycle of these certainties,
Reliability is hard to come by, I hear a sigh.

[Pantoum form, adapted]
daily I went to Roldan' bakery
task that I performed with mastery
it rained the bag of bread wet...
to solve it I doffed my shirt
bread safe... was applauded for bravery
Before you go and buy that new pair of shoes,
There is something you should do,
That will save a return trip for you,
Or maybe even one less cost if you do this before you go.
If buying for your children,
To save a hullabaloo,
Before you leave the house,
This is what you should help them do,
Cut their toenails.
You may have another trip, not to do,
And earn a thank you from your local GP,
As yet another ingrown toenail,
Will not be on their bucket list of things they want to do.
The salesman said, “This computer will do everything,
but wipe your butt!”
My wife said, “If you buy that thing … please tell me …
you didn’t buy all of that scuttlebutt?”
My brother said, “Mine is bigger and better than yours –
more potential and way more storage capacity,”
My friend said, “Most important, does it have AI capability?”
My neighbor said, “That machine will still be fully functional
long after you’re dead!”
I said, “I’ll take it. After all that’s been said!”

Buying a car
I have read and published some of my old poems
what I write these days is more about the everyday
Gone has the mermaid in the forest´s lake.
Sheep endlessly grazing and calling their shepherd
at the first darkening of the sky.
The sheep have lived in peace so long and fear
shadows dancing among olive trees.
The animals graze inside a fenced-in field for security
And for this, they have forsaken freedom.
I´m nonchalant, my dog too takes on the mien of indifference.
She has gone, but I keep her bones in a black bag
when driving around.
On roads covered by asphalt and decaying flowers on sidewalks.
Someday I will write a book of my deleted poems that are forever
circling in my mind.
Perhaps I gave away my best work to the cold stars.
Since you wonder about the title, yes, I bought the twenty-year-old car
It purrs like Walter´s cat.
