FLAT EARTH VS. GLOBAL
I don't believe the earth is flat
I'm not a scientist but it's a sure bet
That no matter how far one travels
No one has fallen over the edge as of yet
I often wonder if the flat earth society
Have memberships around the globe
How would they explain that phenomenon
The truth would sooner or later unfold
My sister and brother in law
Regularly hike the "Abby grind"
I'm sure when they are climbing, the flatness
Of the earth is not prominent in their mind
Though the flat earthers have some very good points
Like the earth is 71% H2o
Maybe in a sense it is flat
Because it's not carbonated, we know
When I was in school we learned the earth is round
But I'm from Sasatchewan, born and raised
And my world is definitely pancake flat
That's the situation here, that I've appraised

Lead me into the still waters of your living Grace Lord
make me the apple of your eye, the tip of your sword
Bring me into the light, let your sun shine on my soul
turn me into a star and beam me from earth's shoal
Take me to your bosom, rock me like a wayward child
jewel of my heart, be the living word on my still-breath
Connect my mind to my heart and help me to re-new,
when I'm stressed and taking on more than I can chew.
Father of lost children, sick, poor and hungry, take me
into the oceans of your Mercy and Compassionate Love
Paterfamilias, ... cured I shall be with one touch of you,
or on the other side of heaven, if you asked me to
Lead me into the still waters of your living Grace Lord
make me the apple of your eye, the tip of your sword.
Amen
Dedicated to my brother in law Joe, who is passing away.
It is hard to write
About Dad.
I feared him
As long as he lived,
Still do.
It’s sixty-two years since he died.
He’s still alive in my dreams,
A little shorter,
Just as bald,
Never a smile.
Dad expired when I was nineteen.
His disdain for me outlived him by four.
My fear has abated little,
Terror is a trap that clamps tight—
If you amputate
That part of you dies too.
Failure, anger, and resentment
Not all setbacks make us sour.
You’ve had your share no doubt—
I hear you keep your cheer.
Dad hired on as the church gravedigger
(a job that suited him).
First holiday I came home from boarding school,
He asked me to help dig a grave
For Uncle Joe, his brother-in-law.
Watching me peck away at the ground
Frozen four feet down
He seemed, for the first time, content.
Next time I saw him look
Satisfied was at his wake
The priest mumbling prayers,
Mother wailing, tears in my eyes,
One hundred fifty at his side.
I saw a twinkle in his eye,
Someone else had dug the hole for him.
It is never too late,
My birthday gift,
Is the most beautiful that I received,
My sister, my brother-in-law and I,
Let’s cross France, on Monday
Went to Giverny on Tuesday
We visited the garden and the house
By Claude Monet, the painter,
Somme went to Paris on Wednesday
We visited the Musée de l'Orangerie,
To see Monet’s water lilies,
In two immense and oval rooms,
It was pretty amazing!
We tasted the Tuileries garden
among some Chinese tourists,
Then we left Paris in the afternoon,
The next day in the Mayenne
We visited the Robert Tatin museum,
Then we left for Brest
Here is a birthday gift
That I will never forget,
It was pretty amazing!

these phrases and terms
father in law
mother in law
brother in law(10)
Sister in law (2)
a large family
with a detailed story
one that on this day
had all seeking
the lonley to find there

The old mother-in-law was sent away,
To an old age home without delay.
The daughter-in-law, with silent defiance,
Pushed back without uttering a grievance.
The husband, in his quest to tame,
A heart thorned with pain and blame,
Tried and failed, defeated at last,
By the weight of the past.
To shatter the deceit and face fate's cruel plan,
He turned to his sister, trusting her hand.
With strategy in mind, and revolt in his heart,
He fought back, unwilling to be torn apart.
Her face, once flushed with fiery red,
Softened into a lotus bloom instead.
In her youth, she refused to let them suffer alone,
"We’ll care for them ourselves," she firmly intoned.
The father-in-law and brother-in-law stood in place,
At the crossroads, with a smile on each face.
Justice was born that day, they thought,
And in their laughter, solace they sought.
An angel of God with the face of a wolf
The honesty of a man with fear closed in on himself
They flap their wings hard against the wind
And above all there is love, that strong, strong love
who refuses to die, even at the gates of heaven.
My heart starts pounding,
I see you without shame, without restraint
Here the most beautiful roses grow,
in this garden of peace and health
where the scent of God, drives me crazy.
And unfortunately, I left the most beautiful Rose on earth
but her roots are so deep, that I can count on her, to live.
You tell them for me, I didn't go very far,
I'm here, right next to them.
I'm in the air they breathe, and to my children,
tell them that I love them, with a strong love.
And life goes on without me ...
Don't cry, because there's so much sun here,
and lots and lots of flowers to collect.
*This poem is in memory of my brother in law Angelo
who past away recently, he channeled the words
for his family and friend, please keep the family
in your prayers, during this difficult time.
An impetus purposed writes of two conceptual me; cuffed and uncuffed.
FIRST: The absolute is "London," a story riddled with facts; "Kingdom of Sweden ...," characters of notoriety and the usual drama of infidelity, innocence, loyalty, the young family, and of a kingdom's people. REALITY
The abstract is "Paris," a story riddled with fiction that writes as I go, "A Name if it be ...," character's are real, and are not, whimsy factors in, visual setting, who took the first scene becomes the main, yet secondary is the notable poet, "Poe" but the fictitious brother-in-law grasp the whole 'off-the-cuffs,' 'shot-in-the-dark'--WHOLE STORY initiated via social media's posted picture of his devotion, Lenore--the human element, Poe--infidelity.
Sylvia did not like her brother-in-law Dan.
She thought he was a despicable man
Sylvia talked behind Dan's back
Saying Dan was lazy and slack.
It concerned her sister Sue,
Who did not share Sylvia's point of view,
Dan was the love of her life
And Sue was Dan's faithful wife.
Suddenly poor Dan died,
And Sue's sister Sylvia cried
Saying how much she loved that man,
Her sister's husband, Darling Dan.
Being with family is oh so comforting
Much like a familiar old blanket
Or your favourite ragged worn out old sweater
With holes in the elbows
One that has seen much better days
But one that you just can't throw away
Watching old black and white movies
Thinking to yourself
The dialogue and acting left much to be desired
By today's standards
But that was part of their charm
Familiar things that your sister use to say
Like when there was a lull in the conversation
She used to be uncomfortable with the silence
And would utter “Anyway...”
Know what... she still says it to this day
My brother-in-law and his coughing fits
Who has had asthma since he was six
My dear sister was warned by our Dad
When she announced their engagement
“You must realize, he may not live a long life!”
My dear Dad passed away at sixty-seven
My brother-in-law is now ninety years old!
To reminisce with them about the good old days
Is just like an old black and white movie!
Oh such sweet treasured memories!
As I knew no living grandparents,
I’ve been a grandson to none.
But I have been a son, a god son,
a younger brother, an older brother,
A nephew, a cousin, an uncle,
A grand uncle, a great grand uncle,
A husband twice espoused,
A son-in-law, a brother-in-law,
A father, a god father, a stepfather,
A father-in-law,
And an ex-husband twice removed.
As my children are not yet parents,
And, given the state of the world,
May possibly never be,
I am grandfather to none.
If certain familial ties can be
Regarded as bookends to a life,
Mine are less than evident,
Leaving my existential chronology
Dangling famously over edges,
Mocking the persistence of memory.
Ningbo Stranger
A dock worker in Ningbo diagnosed with Covid
So, the port is now shut down.
Continents away, we've never met
But at him, in annoyance, I frown.
Suddenly, this stranger has entered my life
We're in an odd sort of relationship
He is causing a great inconvenience
Now our desired commodities cannot ship.
But his specter lingers in my mind
I'm wondering how he is faring
He probably has a wife and kids
My emotions shift to caring.
This plague has touched the entire world
We share a virus with one another
Maybe it's here to urge us to touch
Each other as sister and brother-in-law.

Thrice death has knocked at the same door
Husband, wife, brother are all gone
Fell victims to COVID-19, which I abhor
Thus all have seen eternity's dawn!*

* I am mourning today the death of another member of my family who
passed on yesterday following the death of his sister and his brother-in-law.
At the same time, a first cousin has been rushed into an intensive care unit of COVID-19.
NOTE: THE FIRST COUSIN DIED TODAY - 11 JULY 2021. HE IS THE 4TH MEMBER OF THE SAME FAMILY THAT COVID-19 CLAIMS IN THREE MONTHS AND THE SIXTH OF MY IMMEDIATE FRIENDS THEREFORE I DO NOT FEEL WRITING POETRY FOR THE TIME BEING. GOD KEEP YOU SAFE. TAKE CARE.

In Remembrance of Trevor John Starr
1st September 1945 – 5th November 2016
For Trevor
There are no words for you to say
to someone you’ve loved so long
Brother, Husband, Father, Pop
the parting just seems wrong
and now it’s time to say goodbye
as you try hard, to be so strong
You remember all they have been through
the love, the trouble, the strife
and remember days of happiness
as you recall their life
And walk with them, down memory lane
as scenes go passing by
remember you knew and loved them
and it’s alright to cry
