Premium Member Is the Lord Just a Scarecrow

Is the Lord just a scarecrow
     watching over my fields

Is He no more than a guard dog
     springing from his heels

Nay the Lord is my shepherd
     I am His treasure

With love He watches over me
     Tenderly guards my family

Premium Member Cute Black Bear

Cute black bear has a perfect behind
and her manicured paws are so kind
When she sits on a chair
all the male bears just stare -
her sheer beauty, it just blows their mind!

A friend has given me a little black bear as a replacement for the soft toy we used to have in my husband’s car – I hope she lasts as long as our old ‘guard dog’!

Premium Member Destroying the Fox Tail

Eyes furtive carry the reflected sheen of aluminium paint that is smooth a chrome flood
On the tin roof of the woodshed seen, with moonlight awash, awaking the dreaming scene.
The light has the tint of coyote’s hair; the furtive fox is rising to maraud with that
Peripheral stare, the balance tail is curving around a body still turning, his eyes red dots
Burn beside the russet and auburn fur, in the night full deep, guard dog in slumbering sleep,
With a stealthy gait the stooping steep steps you negotiate, around the mottled boulders
Grey you move or even! glide your way. The lightest breeze full on your face, with elegant
Tresses like a filigree trace, to soundless halt you poise your form upon the ledge with its
Girth two pace. Your.. goal in sight about to spring.! with visage grim, the huddled lambs
Sense... sudden..fear! They start to bleat hear querulous tones, the move was neat! Yet P D
Drops down on lightening feet, from her crop of rock with a body shock, she lands on him
With her forked tree limb, his neck is pinned, in her sundown boots she stands on his tail at
The very root, with feral fear his eyes a-glare, how now will the tale of the captured fox ensnared
Unfold? Don’t destroy the tail of this fox caught cold! She could train him as her reddy scout
He has a fine nose plus attuned senses that she alone caught out!.. or better still she could
Keep him well penned perhaps in documents contained, or back to herr schäffer send!

I have come out of retirement ha ha! for P D's inner animal contest .

Premium Member COSMIC EMBRACE -:- Frida Kahlo

I dive headfirst into Masonite’s wood fibers
 compressed baked & primed
blending boundaries of life,
lightning and death’s
cycle of pain in paint
as a path to tranquility treading
through inner turmoil of vibrancy
A hummingbird in her shell breaks away
the triaged torment
for a moment, quietus cabaret on
cacti untamed canvas
conveys an observer in one’s
own collard greens
Tehuana traditional gown
from the Isthmus of Tehuantepec
ripe reds & burnt orange

Oiled in, the gods Xolotl,
 guard dog portrayed
Aztec god & fertility goddess
Motherly milky way
flanking figures,
a fiery orb of the sun
& the cool, silvery moon
dualities of balance

Fresco muralist Diego Rivera
cuddled infantile by Kahlo,
adorns a frontal lobe’s
opened third eye
& wears Buddha’s mouth
 apprises of oriental wisdom
both his & hers
 naïve folk art
enveloped in a cosmic
love embrace of the universe

Strategy, Docile, Facetious

I present
           my strategy:
         a dignified tower
       constructed entirely
     of questionable choices
    and one slightly hopeful
            thought.

         I sit beside it,
        perfectly docile,
      like a guard dog that
      only guards snacks
        and even then
          not well.

            then comes
           the facetious
             breeze—
        that tiny smirk
      the universe gives
    right before nudging

              and the
                tower
                 leans—
                  leans—

Premium Member My Thirteen-Toed Lover

When you stuck your paw out from that shelter cage,
Did you have any idea whose sleeve you clawed?
Did you see a heart you needed to engage?
Was there a sense that I’d see you and applaud?
Was it your intent other pets to upstage?
How could you know I’d love a critter so flawed?
Six toes on one paw, seven on another
For some reason you knew I’d be your mother

I was not searching for a small, gray tabby
But love springs forth when we least expect it to
Born in a barn, scruffy looking, so shabby
My ferile heart you were able to subdue
It mattered not that I was tired and crabby
My feigned, rough exterior you could see through
I wanted a guard dog, surely you knew that
But I ended up with a thirteen-toed cat

One who came to know my lap as her pillow
And oddly had discriminatory taste
I’d have had more use for an armadillo
Possums on a half shell of earthworms make waste
But Katy won my heart with a tail that billowed
While eying tuna with a smirk of distaste
A fur ball she was, but I’ll not forget her
I’ve never known a more devoted lover

Premium Member A Storm Is Brewing

A storm is brewing as the wind hastens,
the darkening troposphere trembles
with the tornado's teeming tempest afar.
Cumulonimbus clouds meet, gathering to
brood, to share their destructive morose
mood, just as he did that fearful, fateful night
as his friends gathered about taunting him.
This would be no ordinary storm, but a deadly
terrorizing storm exceeding all previous storms.

As the tornado strikes, Hades is awakened
to rise up with Cerberus at his side to
meet the onslaught of obliteration and
blood spilled and spattered with a frenzied
unrelenting wind force exceeding 100 mph.
The house destroyed, his family winging
their way toward heaven's golden gates,
there would be no rendering of redemption.

As the tornado became weak and dissipated,
spent from spinning and swirling its wrath,
its path of decimation and destruction lay
bare with the departed and hard hearted who
cast his lot and became besot to spend his
final unremorseful days of hate with Hades.

*Hades was lord of the underworld and ruler of the dead
in Greek mythology.

*Cerberus was the three-headed guard dog belonging to Hades.

Note* This poem parallels the wrath and destruction
of a tornado with a man who goes berserk and, during
a frenzied rampage, kills his entire family.

Aussie Blue Heeler
Seen em strike, brown snakey type,
When cattle dogs are near,
Seen the bite cut off the hide,
With bloody sheep shearing shears.
Saved dogs life?

Seen brown snakes pulled from logs,
hunting cattle dog, blue heelers,
Seen dogs eating brown snakes, alive,
Scales n all, Blue demon dealer.

Blue heeler used to get the Scrubber, (wild cattle)
Back in the bloody herd,
The runner got nipped on his heels,
Therein blue heeler word.

Religious types came to me ,
The blue dogs intercepted,
Snapping at their heels they were,
left , without a blessing.

Snarling guard dog he will bite,
Right about your heel,
Faithful watchful a delight,
And then your heart he’ll steal.

Premium Member A Funny Thing Happened On the Way To the Bar-B-Que

One hot summer day long ago,
My hubby and I thought we'd go
 to barbecue we
 accepted with glee
by newlyweds, we got to know.

I said we'd bring baked pork and beans,
A salad of mixed garden greens,
 And also, we'd take
 A chocolate cake
Plus six-pack of beer, by all means.

Time came in the blink of an eye.
We packed up our picnic supply.
 Arrived at their house,
 Just me and my spouse,
The only ones who had come by.

 We walked to the back of the yard;
And passed their guard dog with regard.
 They were so surprised
 Upset, they chastised,
"Oh no, you have caught us off guard!"

You see- in their pool, they were found
 In 'birthday suits' splashing around.
"The picnic's next week
 They yelled with a shriek!"
 Embarrassed, we ran homeward bound!

Premium Member Farewell Old Friend

‘Cream Puff’ you were my faithful companion for many years
I recall you were a birthday gift from an old school friend
And I adored you from the moment I held you in my hands
As a teenager I remember taking you with me to my first job in London
You sat on my bedside table and were a constant reminder of home
In 1989 I moved in with my fiancé and he loved you too
He decided you would be a wonderful ‘guard dog’ for our car
For 27 years you sat proudly on the dashboard of every vehicle we owned
Over time you started to show signs of old age
The sun tanned your skin and your once bright coat faded
About five years ago disaster struck and your ‘brains’ burst out of your head
I tried to perform surgery on you with my needle and thread
But it was useless as you were so old and frail
So we left you sitting quietly in the car enjoying your twilight years

Yesterday tragedy struck as we were travelling a long a pretty country road
I was gazing at the azure sea whilst my hubby was at the wheel
Suddenly the next thing I knew you were sitting on my lap
My hubby had picked you up and thrown you to me to see if I could help you
I could see that there was nothing that could be done to save you
Your aged skin had got so thin it had totally disintegrated
Little wooden beads had burst out of your bottom and legs
There was just a little pile of wooden beads where you once sat
Tenderly I scooped you up and placed you in a plastic bag
We then spent a long time picking up your insides piece by piece
As they were scattered like ashes all over the front seats of the car
Now I know the time has come to finally say adieu

Goodbye Cream Puff
A treasured companion for over 40 years
You will be missed by us all

Lost Teddy Bears

The Lost Teddy Bears.

What adventures will today
Our Teddy Bears complete
When they all go out to play
At the park just down the street.

Lisa has a picnic made
With cakes and bread and cheese
Water, Coke and Lemonade
And lollies that they freeze.

They make camp near a roundabout
On mats they carried down
As taught them by a boy scout
they’d met one day in town.

Off to find the magic cave
Our Freddy took the lead
They needed to be very brave
And they were indeed

They went into the diamond room
And tried to fill their boots
But feeling round now in the gloom
Got tangled in some roots

Rupert sent out for some help
Got lost along the way
But then he heard a guard dog yelp
And sturdy policeman say

“We need to make a thorough search
5 Bears they have been lost”
We’ve looked about down by the church
Our paths they may have crossed.

Rupert shouted “Here we are”
At the entrance to the hole.
“We’re not in here so very far
Thank goodness your patrol”

With practiced ease our policeman found
The little bears now frightened
Perhaps if not been for his hound
Their cries would not be quietened.

At last now eating in their camp
And feeling quiet dejected
Eyes still crying, sore and damp
Some safety rules neglected.

If you’re planning to go out
Then always tell someone
This is to remove the doubt
Of where the search begun.

My Pet Dragon

He's got a reptilian body and wings,
and breathe so hot he can singe anything,
he's very popular especially in summer,
if people barbecue's wind up a blunder,

He'll help them out if they need some heat,
that way he can also get a little barbecue treat,
my dragon will even eat some corn on the cob,
he loves his meat but is no vegetable snob,

We take him camping which is great,
he's more than a guard dog whose got what it takes,
flying around the campsite keeping a look out,
like a guardian angel with a dragon snout,

And in the winter if we lose our electricity,
he provides heat out of necessity,
never having a need for matches or a bic lighter,
my pet dragon is a great fireplace provider,

He helps me out with the yard keeping it clean,
raking leaves up with his capable wings,
and then carefully singeing it with his breathe,
the leaves all go up in smoke and theres no mess,

But he's most popular at the Renaissance Fair,
when we dress up in our costumes and volunteer,
bringing our pet dragon along where he too performs,
dancing a little jig while we sing our medieval songs.

Wondering Alsatian

As I wonder about with a weary waggling weak tail,
looking for a peaceful perfectly polished place to rest,
since I have no more real relatives,
I seek solace in science as a solely secured
scheme for my soul;yet, peace eludes me,
I was born as a guard dog;
An Alsatian!nosy,nasty and naughty,
When my original flamboyant fine fellow was still alive,
I reigned supreme;swimming,skating and skiing,
we do things in common like twinkling tolerable twins,
Playing at the park with plenty pretty primitive children,
It was a full fun fair and I became a friend to a flaxen ferret,
who harmonized my heroic hard-edged heart with her
nice nifty nature; I fell flat for her,
engrossed in this long lasting leisure or pleasure , then came
one dark dry day that disaster struck which was despicable,
I loss my entire family ,friends and no foe; oh,Frank!
in a careless crash that crushed the car,
Since then,I became hopeless, homeless, helpless and heartless,
Lord!let them live in liberty in life beyond.
