I dreamed I was inside a bulb—
a cathedral of filament and glass—
not dead
not born…..
but shumming**.
Glass walls curved like time
sealed but translucent
my fingers curled around voltage
like a secret
God was transcending.
The socket hummed a lullaby
of static.
Every breath of mine made sparks
the air electric
with grief
and longing.
I saw myself outside the bulb
in a room wallpapered with eyes—
each iris twitching
like a seismograph.
They watched
as I shimmered like an angel
in a jar of fire
as if I were proof
of something
too holy
or too hideous
to name.
The room beyond
glistened with wallpapered surveillance—
each gaze a blink
each blink
a test of identity
a hymn of entropy
and wonder.
I touched the glass—
cool as frozen memory
thin as a promise—
and the world on the other side
shuddered
like a dream woken
too soon
My thoughts turned tungsten—
spiraled
stubborn
resisting
the spark of enlightenment
or extinction
I spoke
and the words bent back
like boomerangs
buzzing
with static regret
A child approached
barefoot
real
impossibly tender…..
She looked like someone
I might have loved
if time had taken pity.
She placed her palm on the bulb—
her skin against my sorrow
the warmth of it
startling
as mercy
a forgiveness.
“Why are you in there?”
she asked
or perhaps
thought—
her voice the color
of candlelight.
I tried to answer
but my vocal cords was hardwired
my tongue
a fuse
My words came back
distorted
looped
charred
as if language
were combustible.
For a moment
I flickered
between purpose
and obliteration
Then
the ceiling cracked open
like a wound
and light poured down—
not to reveal
like revelation
like judgment—
to burn away
the questions
And I understood—
not everything illuminated
is meant to be seen
not all vision
is freedom…..
Some truths
are meant to flicker
fragile and holy
inside the bulb of the soul
unspoken
unchosen
alive.

**Shumming: Shimmering Humming
You could feel it couldn't you
son who has left the room
mother electricity
the 1,000 bolts
10,000 volts
(not even 27 years could cure)
I give myself over
I fall
and I gladly go
i swan dive
to rock bottom
I will face that stone
I will smack
I will crack
Nd still I will be reborn
caught on a wave
so Drakar delicious
it sticks to my skin
and I stay close to it's heavenly scent.
this perfect
nameless thing
I am a lost puppy aimlessly circling
in an undertow
a tamer of wild lions
the gladly caged walking the plank into a cushion of clouds
moon walking
dream talking
smiling for my day of execution
if only you could measure the room
see the lightning
see the electricity
of soon to be lovers
joined with the power
the power
of love?
why i could make love in the air yet
i could be completely clothed
swaddled
in bondage
and still I could make love.
who needs kisses
They are there in the air like raindrops
currents
fresh flowers
fruits that can be taken by the armload
they are in the molecules
the atoms
the tributary
the neural net
a direct link
to the future we
all else palls in comparison
becomes laughable
i recognize the breadcrumbs
from the bread
the utter peace makes me a want Snow White sleep
makes me want to surf the day in my elven' dreams
to keep my secret safe from time
to firefly fly or to catch in a jiffy jar
what is us
Our lovely mad chemicals combining
our arcs & magnificent architectures
explosions too delicious
to taste...(or keep?)
ELECTRICITY
Edison has spoiled us past the point of no return
Lights around the world all cause the city life to burn
Every child becomes addicted to computer fun
Computers make them stick to chairs so they forget to run
Trams all are electric now and shuttle to and fro
Radios and music in a headphone as we go
Cannot stand the silence that enhances every night
If we see the darkness we are all caught up in fright
Tonight just try to go without your plug ins for an hour
You'll be among the few to know the the true electric power.

I bought a used electric car, and not coz I’ve gone green
For there were better reasons for obtaining that machine.
I figured weekday mornings I could save some precious time
Transforming my used car into the voltage making line.
The first thing that I added was a GFI outlet
That was capably installed by my second cousin Brett.
I then hooked up my toothbrush and put in what I loved most
A shiny, stainless, four slice, brand new toaster for my toast.
I couldn’t charge my razor since there wasn’t any space
So I plugged in an adaptor that should cover every base.
No sooner did the mini fridge take up the whole back seat
The juice and bread and butter filled its 1.5 square feet.
Last of all I mounted a new flat screen on the dash
And don’t you know that luxury depleted all my cash.
A light went on inside my head conveying some green scams
Like selling drinks and other things while stuck in traffic jams.
Or maybe my good neighbors would be inclined to pay
For running cords to their machines while parked in the driveway.
One day I found that my car had a convertible top
When too much steam from the popcorn machine made the top pop.
And that mishap was followed by a nippy, drenching rain
Shorting my ‘lectronics; going green can be a pain.
After that the batteries did not hold a single charge
Forcing me to lug the heap to an auto salvage yard.
Someone asked why I didn’t start with a Winnebago
Coz I had fun driving something green as a tomato.

writing erasing a name
electric current
I sit in my easy chair
with its back to the picture window
in my living room
facing the TV monitor
watching the world flash by
over and over
in different reiterations
until someone turns
my electricity off
We don't appreciate electricity until it's gone.
Especially at night when our lights can't be turned on.
Most of us take electricity for granted until we have a blackout.
We don't realize how important it is until we have to do without.
Electricity is important, for many people it provides heat and cooks meals.
If the power is out for even just a day or two, it can be a terrible ordeal.
I hate blackouts, to be able to watch TV or get online, I have to sit and wait.
Please remember that electricity is something that we should appreciate.
The smell of earth,
Of dust before rain,
Sky darkening, lightning flashing,
Thunder ominous in distance.
Brown arms enfold me in your odor --
Warm, slightly sweaty.
Strong hands, firm, soft lips
Leave me breathless --
And eyes -- your eyes --
Spear and stop my heart.
Benjamin Franklin, to prove lightning held electricity,
Flew a kite in a storm; attached to the kite cord was a key.
Though some thought this dangerous experiment was a bit odd,
Franklin sparked more inquiries and invented the lightning rod!

Power in the night time
flowing down those pole wires,
bless electricity!
your breakers not thrown,
bright light for everyone to see,
bless electricity!
armature moves,
electro-mechanical,
bless electricity!
tesla coil fires,
transistors begin switching,
bless electricity!
amplifier energy,
music notes play,
bless electricity!
Electrical power
surges
through my body,
sending high voltage waves
to my brain,
shocking me
to my core.
The beats
are pulse pounding.
Raw energy
flows
through
my veins.
Flashes of rhythm
like a neon sign,
glowing
out from the darkness.
Lightning strikes
of pure power,
raging into fire.
Flames amplified by octane.
Burning away my soul,
until the smoke rises.
And I am lost in it.

Static Electricity
Gives quite a jolt to you and me
It will attack without a sound
Unless we both find common ground
When we touch, it's there
Metal and live wire.
Sparks fly from your eyes to mine.
A touch, by accident or deliberate.
I shiver as my blood runs hot.
Electricity is there, we both know.
We must be careful though
Before we ignite a fire
Which consumes us both.

Hustling static coursing through the air
It is buzzing and crackling everywhere
It’s not safe to be outside when a storm is building fast
Let us head into the barn before the lightning blast
Suddenly a brilliant flash, we’re blinded by the light
Startled by the thunder, it rolled and shook the ground
Electricity is marvelous; it even makes a sound
It works in our appliances and even in our cars
Coursing through the circuit boards with lights like little stars
Capacitors, resistors, and microchips abound
Everywhere we look, we see them all around
Another flash, a crash and the thunder roared again
Can we make it to the house to see our show begin?
