Brilliance and Madness

Howard Robard Hughes
Famously rich recluse
Dreams led him to the lap of luxury
Followed by nightmarish mysophobic OCD

Rich playboy aviator Howard Hughes
With movie starlets kept himself amused
Dated Katherine Hepburn
Bette Davis took her turn
And still more, which kept the tabloids confused

Born Howard Robard Hughes to a rich family
With English, Welsh and French Huguenot ancestry
Enjoyed a successful multi-faceted business career
But aviation and aerospace were his favorite frontier

Universal Brilliance

The brilliance of the universe has already unfolded. Our lives are wrinkles in that universal crease. And everything we have witnessed is merely one fold in that unfolding. If God's map is infinite, we should be peering beyond heaven. We should at least be in the second fold of that unfolding. But most of us, view God as if the map was still closed. We cannot see past heaven, it we are unwilling to let go of hell.

Premium Member Brilliance of Rosetta Stone

Meaningless squiggles and wiggles
Noted for decades
Without collaborated meaning

Rosetta Stone discovered at last
The missing correlation
Brilliance of a Wise mind

Ancient abstract squiggles
Consolidated wiggles
Revealed under desert sand

Proof of ones or ones
Who cared and dared shared
Translation key to the world

Premium Member Streaks of Brilliance

Exciting... inviting...
   Skywriting...
Anticipation's wing
   Horizon's swing

Eyes peeled on the Heavens
   Murky darkness imperceptibly
                    whitening...
Lighter, lighter
   Brighter, brighter

Streaks of brilliance appear
   Deepest red, fiery orange
      Delicate pink sherbet
Expectation's peaking
   Too vivid to curb it...

When at blinding speed, of a sudden
Here comes Life. ~ Here comes the Sun

The Brilliance of the Ending Day

Let's sit under the tall, satured elm after the long-gone storm;
its branches, unwavering and steaming, are awfully warm.
They stretch their drooping arms to brush off the remaining hues,
those of a placid sunset turned apple-red.
Hear me warbling along with the shivering mockingbird,
too lonely and in somber mood. He relies on his brain,
absorbing the faint heat...before he dies of his amorous evening blues,
I should comfort him and soothe his inconsolable pain.
And watching him, I recall the state I was in, miserable and frail...
until I realized that I was missing: a hand to touch me and restore my will.

I have brought a basket of Californian sun-ripened fruits,
tempting and lively; look inside, cast your gleeful glance on it.
Be that eagle with quick claws when his empty guts emit growls;
pick the ones your palate craves or those with attracting colors.
My pick is that of a yellow apple like your golden hair slightly wet,
it reminds this lover of the delirious laughter chasing another sunset.
Let's behold the brilliance of the ending day which refuses to subdue;
only the sadness concealed in the depths of our souls holds the clue.

Premium Member Yellow and Illuminating Brilliance

Out on porch to glimpse a sunrise
Orange sun cast gray 'on clouds
Whispy light airy sparse white clouds
On horizon not like shroud

Then as the sun inched up orange
Disappeared replaced by
Illuminating brilliance clear
Against blue blue sky

Dramatic change for human eyes
I longed to stay awhile
How many didn't even notice
Beauty very worthwhile

Iambic heptameter used as ballard stanza
Used by Emily Dickinson in many of her works

Stephen Hawking

Stephen Hawking was bogged down in space.
Just one eye moved around in his face.
But in spacetime he leapt
like a quantum and kept
all of us far behind his great pace.

Premium Member An Awkward Child

A mother's hand trembles
     as she brushes a tear from her eyes;
while watching her awkward child
     standing all alone, forgotten.
As others, in their budding self-awareness,
catch glimpses as they run by, playing
at their games and life.

They were too young, perhaps,
     to appreciate that difference will
often foretell brilliance, that genius
     sometimes hides behind
shyness, and strength within
     softly stammered words.

Instead, we often feel we must march
to the same annoying drum beat,
speak the same exhausted phrases,
     and think only empty thoughts
to feel connected. While left alone,
     the one who's different
finds contentment in tending
     a garden of his dreams.

Perhaps he should have come to this
life a little later, when humanity
might have learned acceptance
     of those unlike themselves, and
tolerance for minds greater than
     their own.

But, for now, there'll be derision
     as insecurity outruns compassion
in the human race. Yet, as sometimes
happens, the awkward one, rejected as
a playmate, is now extolled by many
     critics for his masterpieces.
And we gaze in wonder at the loveliness
     of the unique.

Obsolete Brilliance

So concerned with the skill
But anyone's skilled with language
Everyone knows the power of will
Though words rarely show knowledge

So i say screw the pettiness of being clever
I say screw those who value wit over truth
Why do we appreciate those under cover
Yet we let them hide because that's just youth

We could read a page of "smart" quotes
I could litter a textbook with highlighter
Anyone could refer to important anecdotes
Everyone congratulates the "brilliant" writer

All the time we see it happen everywhere
All of us are blinded by words every time
Take the aged's advice without thought or care
Though soon enough you'll find it a crime

For they lived long before our era of man
They spoke in a period when word was a privilege
What was written was read by no educated scan
The world is changing and so is knowledge

Unexplained Brilliance

A sudden
 sonoluminescence
 manifested
 in a river of eyes,
 a sigh drawing
 vision

The spray of their rays
 issued into a void
 barren of illumination,
 its essence devoured
 with the absence
 of brilliance

Broken skies
 illuminated with scars,
 fragmented earth
 felt the first radiance,
 one burst
 bequeathed life

Startled orbs
 can now perceive
 with no sight,
 folded forms
 can now move
 like untied kites

A desolate darkness
 was extinguished,
 with an inexplicable
 sound wave of light

Premium Member A Woman With Brilliance and Beauty

She is from Nairobi, a highlighted nation of luminaries
A country that encourages the education of women
She has her masters and her PHD but none of that matters
When the men see how beautiful she is, they discount her brilliance.
