Best At First Poems
Love was in the air when he laid eyes on her.
Childhood; elementary and even high school with her.
Walking towards her, he greeted her.
Anxiety spiraled as he hugged her.
Conversation grew deeper as he sat with her.
Wanting to get closer because he was falling for her.
Another woman called pausing the time he was having with her.
Knowing he had to answer; he stepped away and spoke to her.
She stated that something wasn't quite right with her.
She said that her stomach had been bothering her.
Now he's thinking back if he came inside her.
Thinking if she lied to him about her tubes being tied within her.
Does he blame himself for listening to her?
Knowing right from wrong and yet he can't blame her.
Does he blame the devil for allowing him to be intimate with her?
Is he not a human that makes mistakes just like her?
Begging God to make a way for him and her.
Asking God to forgive him for committing the sin with her.
God said, "relax my son, you were only dreaming of her."
I caught a butterfly a week ago.
Her wings had painted eyes of indigo,
Surrounded by a ring as white as snow.
So pretty I just had to let her know.
She flapped her wings and put on quite a show,
Then kissed my cheek before I let her go.
I sure was glad I stopped to say hello.

As the golden threads of silver, a mother protects her child
The path they will follow together, through life they leave deep footprints
The love that is shared will always shine its rays, nothing to fear

Abandoned
by your own mother.
How could she
leave you to die?
You were helpless,
bedraggled and weak.
When I saw you
my heart melted…
who could resist
those huge blue eyes.
I scooped you up
and carried you home.
You cried for your mum;
but she was long gone.
I gave you warm milk
you drank thirstily;
then fell asleep
in my arms.
I begged my mum
to let you stay.
From that day
you stole my heart.
I fell in love
with my first kitten.

At first glance, I saw forever
It was love at first sight
You were so charming and clever
My life long endeavor
While in your arms all was right
At first glance, I saw forever
I would never leave you, never
That all changed that dreadful night
You were so charming and clever
Driving way to fast foot pressed on lever
The other car was no where in sight
At first glance, I saw forever
On that day fate came to sever,
Our lovely union, I couldn't even fight
At first glance, I saw forever
You were so charming and clever

A Villanelle is a nineteen-line poem consisting of a very specific rhyming scheme: aba aba aba aba aba abaa.
The first and the third lines in the first stanza are repeated in alternating order throughout the poem, and appear together in the last couplet (last two lines).
Author's Note: This is pure fiction. A contest inspired me to write this.
She gave me the love of the virgin
Mary.
A love for her that will not tarry
P.D. is a creature that I dare to claim
Poet Destroyer a bold clever name
I met her on the soup before I knew
Her fame
She hated me at first but one day
she saw my pain
She reached to me forgiving arms
And gave to me her forgiving
charms
An act of which I'll never forget
True forgiveness one rarely gets
I shared my feelings with the world
And they were noticed by a girl
The pain of my misery reached her
heart
She set aside the differences that
tore us apart
I write this poem as a monument in
my heart
It's a dedication and not just art
She touched my life in that certain
way
And her memory will always stay
I may not think of her everyday
But there are those moments that
will never fade away
But when she forgave my heart that
day
That's when she moved in and there
she will stay

Love at First Glance
Saw you sitting there one magical night
And instantly my heart took off in flight
Bravely I asked you if you’d care to dance
It was a yes that led to our romance.
The first moment I held you in my arms
I was mesmerised by your luring charms
Below the glitter ball you came aglow
‘Twas then I knew I could never let you go.
As time went by we fell madly in love
For us it was written in stars above
My dream had came true when you said “I do”
I vowed to always love and cherish you.
Sadly came the tragic day we parted
Leaving you left behind stricken hearted
My darling wife, my life, my beauty Queen
I'm still there beside you unheard, unseen.
Without doubt we were an ideal match
No one on earth could ever dispute that
We’ll meet again on God’s ace-high dance floor
Waltzing evermore in heaven’s splendour.

I met him in a time and place
so long ago! His handsome face
I longed to touch. It was at night.
He saw me too - love at first sight!
We danced a while and ever since,
we've been together. As my prince,
he has my heart. It's only right
we share this life in love's embrace.

My first recall, is your beautiful hair
walking, elegance in grace you exude,
breathing sexy words to you, none were crude
loving words, could not show depths of my care.
I remember your unsteady glance
as I peered through the edges
of my windswept bangs
your words whispered
softly through dusk's breath
...even the horizon blushed
My lips, painted
temporarily parting
in the trice of a gleam
hid my sadness
momentarily
as your smile
allured the depths
of my sorrowful heart
Your smile, did this eager soul truly bless
as soothing vibes, found sad heart to invade,
my thought was, may this feeling never fade
forever yours, pure truth I did confess.
Love, those words, born of romantic fever
are as blossoms falling in gentle wind,
within that sweet image, time has no end
at first sight, I became a believer.
I was but a wilted flower
in a field of many
struggling to stand
barely visible
yet you noticed
and nourished me
Your laugh at my words, being on a dare
friend said, such a beauty- you have no chance
king or prince, but not you, never romance
then our kiss, showed him, a loving pair.
I remember his scorn
like a thorn, it pierced
the edges of fate
yet unsure
you still gambled
your heart
at stake
beneath
a kiss
A collaboration with Robert Lindley
Thank you Robert for the invitation to weave my musings into your beautiful poem...it was a pleasure!
How lovely it was to romp on the grass,
How easy it was to make friends with her.
I saw her in a car a comely lass,
But their red car sped on in quite a blur.
How easy it was to make friends with her.
I barked at my master to make him speed.
But their red car sped on in quite a blur.
We both caught up to park, and we were freed.
I barked at my master to make him speed.
I saw her in a car a comely lass,
We both caught up to park, and we were freed.
How lovely it was to romp on the grass.
From my point of espial,
I was instantaneously seduced;
just one look at you, my precious,
I plunged
into the bottomless ocean
that is your mesmerizing eyes
just to let myself...
drown.

At First Glance
There are such women.
Those who do not so much
capture, as captivate.
Entering, they glide slowly,
seamlessly, across the eyes,
overshadowed by the more
stunningly stylish and
demanding divas. Yet,
they are not overlooked.
As the moment fades and
the evening moves, so do
the eyes of those drawn to
beauty. Thus it was I found
my eyes returning, gazing
upon her face, her presence.
There was no strain in her
beauty, no intimidation in
her stride, no drama in her
movements. There was,
seemingly, a sweet music
to which she alone danced,
moved, mingled, without
becoming lost in the crowd.
She would, I thought, exude
this same air of confidence
and character in any situation.
It was not love at first sight,
for she was not the fireworks,
but the reason for the parade,
not the most beautified, but
the most beautiful. At first
glance beauty can be eclipsed
by the beautiful, for beauty has
no need for darkness. At first
glance - I saw - but did not see
the beauty that awaited me.

Robert J. Lindley and Sandra Adams
a new collaboration... Rhyme and free verse...
Note-
My dear friend Sandra, I am both humbled and so very appreciative that
you agreed to write this new collaboration with me. As I knew well,
that your verses would sing out the beautiful lady's thoughts and replies
to her former lover and his sweet and sadly truthful memories of their time
together as very young lovers. With full account given of both the good and
the bad in life, just as we all know is often a sad reality... Our combination of his memories written in rhyme and her free verse replies represents the two graceful but very different natures of the former youthful lovers!
Again, you have my heartfelt thanks.. God bless...
You reached for me
pulled me to you at first embrace
and I was
home
in port from every restless, needless journey.
I wanted to exhale, completely
and sudden sleep came over me
your body,
narcotic
I could have stayed there forever
but my impulse was to run away from
home.
