This Is Why We Write

Blog Posted:12/16/2015 5:53:00 PM

So...sometimes we bicker and fight, sometimes we don't get along in our community, we get sad when there is a contest loss, we get excited when we win, we get down when we have few comments and we are proud when our poem view break 200.

This community is a community of poets, we are all trying to get our voice heard, and there is chatter everywhere, sometimes it is positive and sometimes negative. Why do we do it, why do we put up with the torture of critique? Why do we put ourselves at the mercy of strangers across the globe, who may or may not like what we have to say...we do it because it is not about us.

I dig all ya'll here, you know that, I try hard to get on, never saying a negative word, but I have seen dozens get discourgaged about the enviroment. I have too at one point wanted to throw up my hands and give up when I was being harassed in a negative way. But then someone told me once, it is not about who is on this site, it is about who you reach out to.

When other poets talk about searching for people who have plagerized their poems, it gave me an idea to google my most popular write on the site. My poem "Little Wishes" it was one of my first writes, a sweet mother daughter kinda thing (go read it...) and I found three pages  that made my day....

http://romyandthebunnies.com/happy-3rd-birthday-romy-nicole/

this site used my poem on an inpirational page for mothers...

http://climbingthedigitalmountain.blogspot.com/2015/11/my-youngest-grandchildrena-blast-from.html

this one used my poem to talk about her grandkids and

http://acakeforallseasons.blogspot.com/2014/06/i-found-love-in-hopeless-place.html

and this one made me cry....my poem was read in a dedication service and inspired this lady's blog about her child in a wonderful collection of photographs with my poem, and the struggle from a rough birthing process to her daughter now...(go see, it is emotional)

Now as far as I know, those three people are not on the soup, they didn't contact me to use my poem, but the tribute they paid in using it touched my heart and knowing I touched theres....

Our words are ripples in the world, we see the immediate thunk of our write in the water like a stone throw, but will we ever see the shores our waves kiss.

think about it, the world is a big place, and what you leave behind will find it's way to where it is meant to go. Be proud of what you post because one day it will come to shore.

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I suppose that includes having your work pilfered, which shows that it has value. I wouldn't be particularly upset, since recently a woman at a bus stop approached me and interrupted my conversation to ask if I was the guy who had poems in the local paper. I said yes, me Viv, and she remarked that she and her friends looked forwards to reading them. So if I'm filling little pockets somewhere with joy, it's no bad thing. Getting our work out there, in whatever way, shows what an unselfish bunch we are. Merry Christmas, one and all. And God bless Tiny Tim.

An inspirational blog by a wonderful poet. I've found my poetry on the web - one of the most touching things I found was a poem I had written amended and used as a tribute to a war veteran - that really made me proud:-) Season's greetings to you Tom and Abby I hope 2016 brings you a lot of joy and you continue to give us pleasure with your amazing poetry:-) hugs jan xx

I think there is no greater satisfaction better than making someone feel better with your poem Cas. I do love to see my poetry used when there is my name. Only once I saw wordings from my poem used and there wasn't my name, but when I saw that it was used to help and encourage a lady with cancer..I just removed my grumpy look and put on a smiley face.Yes ..nothing better than making someone happy with just words.Nice blog : )

For me my poetry only 'lives' when some else 'reads' it (preferably 'hears' it recited aloud) to thereby create a unique 'as is moment' ,hence I have posted most of my anthology to you tube under my pen name ichthyschiro.

A good question Casarah, there maybe many answers(as many as there are poets)but for me, it is 'because I do'..it is something that started some 15 years ago ,it may falter here and there from time to time this literary journey of mine it seems almost separate from 'me' a kind of compulsion, yet a gift to be explored.Long may it continue. My prayer would be that every one can explore such a blessings in their uniqueness.Christmas greetings to all my PS 'peer poets.rgds Brian

this is a great blog, Casarah. I loved it the few times i was approached for the use of my poems. I know many times they are used and not asked for, but that is ok as long as the people are not going about claiming they wrote it. I would be tickled pink to know my words were being read in a church or at a school!! even if I were not asked. Of course I would still want the words to be read. Sure hope not too many people are doing this kind of thing and claiming the words to be their own.
