Mother Nature

Beauty in the world surrounds
and sometimes it confounds
aspiring to something great
that not even time can manipulate.

But humanity has tried her best,
to harm, hurt, and even test
and yet we still try some more
but what happens when it's o're.

What legacy did we leave in place
that years and scars can't erase
that future gens try to re-do
and yet we still have no clue.

We're all at fault to some degree,
all of us, yes even me
but we choose to lay and wait
and silently contemplate.

A time will come when it's our turn,
and humanity will suffer the burn
for nothing is ever truly free
when taken back by destiny.

When Mother Nature has done her part
she will suffer not a broken heart
but peace will lay upon her breath
when humanity is called to death.

For she has given and gave again,
right up till the very end
No one knows when the end is near
but it's the reaper that we fear.

Though you may disagree,
we've had ample time you see
time to change and make a new
but this is not what people do.

Perhaps change can still take place,
while ugliness has reared its face
I don't know, nothing is certain
until the world shuts its curtain.

“We’ve had ample time you see,” pretty much says it all for me. I just turned 74 and they’ve been talking about oceans, ice, ozone depletion and such things since I was a kid. I think we’re too late. All we can hope for is to be able to adjust to the changes. Liked the poem, great topic, well stated and good flow. John
