Gentle lapping waters
roll sequentially onto shore,
like tiny crystals sparks, highlighted by the shining sun.
Blackened tree stumps
stand
like soldiers on watch.
A pelican,
skims the surface of the lake,
in search of tasty morsels lurking beneath murky waters.
The lazy dog basking in the sun
lifts an eyelid;
Undisturbed,
he resumes his peaceful nap.
Camp fires send spiralling smoke puffs upwards,
carried away with the wind,
followed by another smoke signal.
The sandy banks,
with mounds of trodden turrets lay in wait,
for creatures on dusk patrol
seeking nightly nourishment.
The setting sun slowly sinks,
sending sliver shimmers across the lake.
Again, nightfall descends.
Another day closes.

A crescent moon dangles in the distance,
whilst meteors jet across Prussian blue heavens,
leaving trails of grey ash in their wake.
An abnormal, elongated silence creeps through threadbare trees,
as an imperceptible breeze skims past my hair,
causing, for just a second, déjà vu—
a flutter between my muffled heart and a crushing ribcage
jolts me back.
Never-ending, frayed nerves keep me on edge;
the taste of insufferable copper taints my tongue.
Spitting it out—only for it to return,
haunting me like your last words,
replicating, repeating nightmares,
eating into my wailing brain.
That night: the broken glass,
shattered mirrors, overturned tables,
blood-sheathed floors—
became our point of no return.

Dragonflies
What are dragon flies?
Something colorful flying by.
A small critter that skims across the water.
Maybe just a messenger?
A positive symbol.
A way to keep life simple.
Transformation into the new.
A spiritual change in pursuit.
Rebirth of new beginnings.
Fly as far as you can see.
Don’t hold anything back.
An echo in black.
Traveling with wisdom.
Passing through into a new realm.
A soul not forgotten.
Remember the good times are never lost.
A critter flying free.
Be whoever you want to be.
Lightning fast in the night.
Colorful shades in the sky

Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Nature always wears the colors of the spirit."
Star-speckled galaxies nestled in indigo stratospheres transform
Into a plethora of pastel hues, painting the canva of a breaking dawn.
Strokes of salmon and peach stretch across the heavens,
Whilst the slumbering cosmos begins to awaken.
Shimmering dewdrops collect like pristine pools within velvety buttercups,
Nourishing amber and ebony bumblebees.
The birdsong of magpies calls you to embrace new day's hope.
Pulling back chiffon-cream curtains,
Rays of sunlight reflect off ocean-blue irises.
Breathing in the miracle of life's warmth,
Pearlized wings of hummingbirds flutter to the rhythm of your swaying heart,
As a balmy breeze skims past fields of lavender—
Delicately dancing in an amethyst ballet.

Your darted arrow of Venus impales
Our demise persists through our veins
The echo in my heart is hopeless
What is love when death skims the surface?

I’m struck by the stark contrast
of her image
which leaps out
against a black background
Meeting the gaze
of her piercing blue eyes
I find her so beautiful
much more alluring than the Mona Lisa
A colourful teal and gold turban
hides her tresses
perhaps giving emphasis
to a solitary pearl earring
which skims the collar of her gown
Her enigmatic expression
hides a secret
Parted ruby red lips
are poised
as if to speak
yet,
they will never reveal her identity

How did you get up there?
Up there in the sky so fair?,
Between the tree's bare limbs
Behind where the cloud skims
How did you get down here?
Down here and along the pier?,
Under the waves of ocean's deep
Into the tides roll you creep
How did you find my birthstone?
Born within a light, airy tone?,
I find you buried in aquamarine
Azure, sapphire, turquoise, cerulean
Beautiful, bold and blue
Not just simply a sad hue,
The calmness you bring, I savor it
How did you end up my favorite?

Conejo Conejito Tango (Bunny Rabbit Tango)
The mesmerizing twilight dims
across a lake a warm breeze skims
Buck, the handsome rabbit drinks,
he has no doe; his love life stinks.
He stares at his reflection, sighs
when suddenly, his long ears rise
he hears a low, soft rustle near
he stands straight up, tries not to leer
but in the gloaming, gold and green
a gorgeous hare, a beauty queen!
With one ear up, the other folds
her peek-a-boo is flirty, bold.
She holds his gaze and lifts her chin,
he charges forward, she leaps to spin
and drops back down, in perfect pose
she lifts her paws to box his nose.
The tango music fills their veins,
the wind blows out their bunny manes
they pivot, leap and promenade
in moon-streaked shadow, cooling shade.
The forward cross, the ocho, turn
there is no step they need to learn
the side secada, quick advance
they both were born to dance this dance.
The dance complete, he falls asleep
she hops away, his snores are deep
She looks back in fondness, glad
she chose this buck to be a dad.

Occasions a sign as moonglade o'er lake.
Hears lay the sleeper in brevities wake,
retold roses red and violets blue,
yet best in scarlet as would maroon too
and lavender is said truer than blue
ice hue bit tepid or too cool don't you.
Adage, midst I, some pleasant sensation,
that sharply parches vivid ribbons in
from a morning mist, where I sail lightly,
plucked anon afloat, raving aimlessly.
Skims a peacock sky, fans its righteous hue,
ducks stapled in a pond, quacks voices clue,
A seized mind, I'll best keep a forward thought,
I know last night's storm. What? Oh, I forgot.

Riding a thermal, without a flap of wings,
hot air billowing his black cloth canvas,
a crow sails the gray ocean of a foggy afternoon.
No flap of the wings, no readjustment
of rope and sail, it seems as though he is
not moving at all; a figurehead
as the Earth skims the cosmic ocean.
He breaks his statuary, shedding the current
like a coat of dust, the crow banks down beneath
the cresting green waves of pine trees, resurfacing
with a gasp for air so loud the foghorn trembles
in embarrassment, and assumes his place as the
figurehead of the world once more.

I have to say I've been here before
My life has changed but not these shores
Of this salty ocean sea I still drink
I thought I'd escaped it so long ago
When I caressed the ball which skims it low
Yet even then, I knew someday I'd sink
I found so much in its blinding light!
An old man knelt down and attempted to write--
But their deaf ears could not withstand
The Supernova!
Since then my years have ran so fast
But memories still stain my mast
And on these desolate waves, I still stand
And since then I have fallen in love
I've spoken to priests and our God above
Yet here I still lie on quick sand
I've felt these waves fall-- Burn and crash!
The salt stains my hair! And it burns to ash!
As waves burst in the sea I can feel
A Supernova!
Well, maybe one day I'll be free of this place
Across these horrible shores I will finally embrace
This poisoner who I know as me
I may touch the stars-- But I never burn!
So to truly touch I long and yearn!
To truly forget about this sea
To cleanse in water of somewhere else!
The golden sprays that will fill and melt!
This heart of stone and emit
A Supernova!

Dark orange skies
Fading into black night,
A crescent moon rise
Glowing ghostly white
Skimming overhead
With trick or treaters below,
I watch them tread
Before up I go ...
Flying over corn crops
Reaching out to touch the stars,
Dodging rooftops ...
And parked cars
Above the tree limbs
Sweeping the last leaves,
As I swoop by, skims
The houses' eaves
Over the picket fences
And wrought iron gates,
The night commences
Where the cemetery waits
It is Halloween ...
In all it's sight and sound,
Beautiful to be seen
And I am spellbound!

Touch with me the new draw
and obfuscate new hope
Darkened clouds will be
your new mistress
riding high on the celestial plain
She skims her eyes on you
like a piled cumulus
waiting for the dry bones of winter
