Premium Member Hide and Seek Squirrel

hide and seek squirrel is a pleasure to watch if you must know
oak trees fight over him, he is clever, and has humor that glows
it’s my turn they holler to him as he begins his game play.
Shh! He shushes them. You will give my hiding place away!

Premium Member No Quitting In the Dark

We pass the fire sticks near the police cars,
lit.
Bright round moon shine, that’s it.
The fit,
from the tall and small,
still they’d rather walk then sit
with grandpa in the car.
We are so close to home. Each keeps their wit
and acumen, as we trudge through the dark -
feels dangerous, but we don’t quit,
even when grandpa gives a second chance
then he drives, leaving us insanely split.
Arguments ensue near thick smoke
as cars commit
and we don’t want to get hit
so the older kid wants to grab the illumined necklace
from the younger’s hand and both won’t quit.
Smarty pants grandma asks him why he doesn’t use
his cell. Well, duh, he’s out of power. Keeping my wit
and acumen, steering my cell out of my purse,
handing the flashlight to him. He takes it.
The younger than offers to share…forget it.

Epilogue:
sweets, showers, sleep - nah, sit…yes, nice
as husband shushes…a little bit

Premium Member Where Is Liberia Hunnicutt

Colin is a crusader, a knight, a soldier, a champion, a liberator too.
His face is handsome, but well hidden, as are his eyes of lightest blue.
His own mother fears this veiled monster when he enters forest glen.
He looks fierce and angry; who can guess what manner is his whim?

It is a dark and devilish night, and wild dervishes can be felt about.
One scared little eight-year-old spies the knight and gives a tiny shout.
His mother shushes him, for soldiers are feared not admired in these days.
Too many horrible battle stories have come which negate the old praise.

Most of the men folk have been killed, which is why women are here.
Crouching behind oak trees, hugging their babies, living in mortal fear.
The champions have taken more than their share of a toll on their town.
They are afraid of this knight, holding their breath, keeping eyes down.

Where is Liberia Hunnicutt? He demands in a fierce, killing way.
No one speaks, for Liberia is their friend, each and every sweet day.
If something happens to her, they may starve, come totally undone.
So no one speaks, not knowing that this is Colin, her eldest fine son.

Premium Member Daylight Disappears

As shifting shadows merge within the night,
darkness devours disheveled silhouettes.
And daylight disappears, fading from sight;
as a splendiferous sun slowly sets.

Twilight's crimson-colored clouds coalesce;
tinting the skies a cotton candy pink.
And yet, darkness descends nevertheless,
tattooing treetops with ebony ink.

Sequined stars sparkle in the midnight sky;
glittering gems in the fabric of space.
And today toasts tomorrow with a sigh;
as a motley moon mirrors Sol's far face.

Moonbeams mold monsters mostly out of black;
sculpting scary shapes with chisels of light.
And female mosquitoes mount their attack;
as buzzing, bloodthirsty biters alight.

Silence shushes sounds, stirring in the day;
as night's nocturnal creatures start to wake.
And stridulating crickets chirp away;
trilling till dawn dawns and dreamers awake.

Premium Member Breeze Shushes Fire

dainty gossamer wings
automatic fluttering
savoring the meadow
faerie magic afoot
on this summer’s solstice

breeze feels her presence
keeps it to herself
understanding faerie’s privacy
suspecting her mission
wanting to witness it for herself

baby butterfly yawns deeply
settles down for  the night
tosses and turns, finally gets back up
Has an urge to head for the meadow
the faerie council is waiting

Cheering as she flies in
I knew she would sense them
breeze thought, glad she had made it.
She was instantly crowned queen of the faeries,
given a new body, sceptre and crown.
Breeze went home thrilled, knowing she had done her part.

“I guess you helped them choose a new queen?” her husband guessed.
“What did I do?” she asked, trying to be innocent.
“Do they know you always rattle the wings of the one you want?”
“Sh!” breeze said. “Go burn up a forest or something.”

Premium Member Young Love

YOUNG LOVE

Therefore young love affords a promise ring.
Angels beam with shoulders bent aquiver.
His woolen arm shushes her from shiver.
Perchance the wedding bells one day will sing.
     An ache of warmth - the trials yet to come.
     The constant text of hearts, smilies and such.
     And lucid lips that glide and long for touch.
     The fate’s a fire that wants a loving home.
A day of reckoning might bruise their way
for things do change - the crooked path, love’s test.
Of months and years, life’s cares will do their best
to break you down or up — perhaps you’ll stay.
     Ah, beginning of love with all its zest.
     Oh, days of wisdom wait at length impressed.

A Change In Season

Scents of apple spice
Vacillating through the wispy breaths of air
Hide through the crispy iced branches

Honey-vanilla spews into the thick, lush forest
And its sap trickles onto the mushy earth

Tiny iced droplets start to form icy pentacles
And the marshmallow vapor travels through the cerulean meridian
Shooting cylindrical globes onto the gigantic atmosphere

As the liquid gold oozes from the gigantic amber orb
And the neon magic marker pains the winter sky
Icy pellets shape into crystal teardrops upon the bent branches

And the neon magic marker paints the winter sky
The rustle shushes
The tiny creatures hide

As the red curtain opens up for a grand act
The earth awaits....

Premium Member Hating the Monster In Him

Frank frightens the ghouls with his green skin.
Greedy for more girlfriends, he reaches for them.
Lumbering along at a monstrous pace,
‘Why do they run,’ this empty thought.
‘Why do they prefer teeth marks and not his bolts?’

He tries sweet talk but only arghs and rumblings disturb
the night air, which is getting thick with smoke
from tortuous flame — now the horde is after him.
Pitchforks for hay become hateful weapons.

He asks himself why did he kill the only one on his side —
Doctor Frankenstein. He hides and weeps, staining
the cumbersome cube of his face. His clothes cling —
torn in sundry places where his muscular frame gave way.

Frank finds a side door unseen, slides into fresh air, finds
an alleyway where a small child weeps forgotten by the world.
She looks up and curiosity seeks comfort, her small hand
finds the sweaty palm of the enigma of this harvest night.
An orphan coos and shushes the repentant soul.

Shush...DIDN'T I TELL YAWL TA BE QUIET

Be quiet, hush now;
Says the Librarian;

Toddler mocks mama shushes every one else;
What's the rush;
Grandma says you better hush;
Utterance of “shush” the thumps were followed by;
More hushes and shushes and yawl better B quiet from the aunts';
Gits a switch from out the yard;
Now ya hear a soft swishing or rustling sound;
Shush;

Premium Member Land In White

I see a land completely all in white
Secluded by the trees and the bushes
This place is grand seeming a holy sight

It’s not like snow or powder in some night
The land is quietly filled with shushes
I see a land completely all in white

The woods holds the mystery of delight
Will the fairy that made this give wishes
The place is grand seeming a holy sight

There are spots illuminated by light
The whiteness is bright and filled with lushes
I see a land completely all in white

No creature here really wants to fight
Glory emphatic is great in thrushes
The place is grand seeming a holy sight

White seems to sure make everything just right
Not a plant carries or surely crushes
I see a land completely all in white
The place is grand seeming a holy sight

Side Poem -- Come Undone

Later, her phone is ringing again
She says "Baby, whats up, its like 3am"
Hes got tears in his eyes "Im sorry" he says
She asks him for what, and he starts to cry again
"Our baby just died, and I said barely two words,
I was just scared, and didnt want to let it hurt
Im sorry you went through that, and that I couldnt be there
It'll be okay next time, we'll keep it I swear."
She shushes his fears and wishes his tears away
"I know honey, its okay...we'll make up for it one day"
Shes hiding the tears that pour down her face
"lets go to sleep together, and make sweet dreams"
He stops crying, and imagins her in his arms,
She stops hurting and falls asleep in his heart...
