Jaded Since You
Jonquils blooming gracefully
where we kissed our last goodbye.
Their beauty I hardly see
and I cannot even cry.

Jonquil Bulbs
Just
Over the
Next hill
Quietly resting
Underneath the
Icy ground
Lay the jonquils.
Bulbs
Unscathed by
Long winter days
Bearing the promise of
Spring....

Enter the Lion-Lind30
OH, howl, you transient lion
cause the lamb to lean in fluff
against a line of Jonquils
budding ‘neath a crust of melting snow.

A Garden of Taranga Islands
Alone beside calm diary edge
Faraway gardens heard
Icy Jonquils kissed loneliness!
My necklace of pearls quivered...
Rusted sun-rays to unlove Violets,
When Xeronema yearns zenith.....

Spring Is In Sight
Sunshine warms my skin
Skin browns a shade darker
Darker ivory still pale
Breeze caresses my face
Face seeks sweet smells
Sweet Hyacinths and jonquils
Green grows new life
Mower sputters and dies...

Spring
Casting off the cloak of slumber
From winters burden unencumber
Jonquils stretch and rub their eyes
Up through barren earth they rise
To a new seasons birth they sing
The lilting melody of spring...

Jonquils
It is time
Too long in bed
I stretch
Cast off the bonds of Hypnos
Cold white sheets retreat
I am free
My head lifts
Sun caresses my face
I rise, standing tall
Naked for all to see
Beauty reborn
It is spring...

MUD
Mud
Ice cold
Slithering
Squishy welcome
Tickled by the worms
Softening Winter’s edge
Cheering the Jonquils sunrise
Awakening the pond turtles
Harbinger of Spring’s latent beauty
Soothing the hands of early gardeners

Flaxen Haired Lady Yellow Contest
Her world is as radiant as the sun,
golden as dandelions that cover
the fields and hillsides in springtime,
or the sunny faced jonquils and daffodils.

Spring
Spring
Down where
Jonquils bud
Wild violet
Show their short, stemmed grace
Then disappear
When love's full
Nascence

Oh, March
Oh, March,
You vagabond of trumpet gales
Swirling city trash
‘round tipping cans
Tugging
At fully outstretched flags
Ruffling Robin feathers
Jousting with Jonquils
Elevating
A hungry hawk
Howling
At the heels of fleeing winter
Lest it keep you
From a date with spring

Little Paperwhite
Little Paperwhite
You rise and gaze Little Paperwhite;
Persisting for many a year;
No family, adopted, guarding yucca and jonquils
You bring down a lonely tear.
Another spring, unnoticed;
You retreat to your Mother bulb;
And weep a while, then sleep;
To dream of a Paperwhite club.

Frosted Freedom
Jonquils, whispering in icy shadows,
Argue with January’s chill
Needling her about her coldness.
Upstart prisoners plotting a breakout
Always alert to a break in her façade
Resist complacency’s weakness
Yearn to mimic the sun’s majesty.

Jonquils
And there they are
as if it were their duty to bloom
... like slow notes on a piano
from the depths of earth
suddenly rising
to fill the world with grace.
Much like writing a poem
a duty to ourselves
... inspired moments
bare, inarticulate strands
nuanced over time
suddenly rising
bursting onto the page....

One Bold Spring Day
One day of spring in February
Jonquils send forth their blooms
Found warm coat unnecessary
Wore warm air draped costumes
Sky of sky-blue satin sports dots
Of gauzie dotted swiss
Great this experience snapshots
A day to reminisce
When tomorrow's winter's air cold
Blows 'pon my northern door
One day of spring so very bold
I'll remember once more...

Alice's House
Redbud and dogwood have blossomed
above the tulips and jonquils where
Alice's house used to be.
A possum and raccoon nose around
where the garage was before the tornado.
An armadillo has joined them.
Someone has hung a red feeder from
the old clothesline. No hummingbirds yet.
Spring has brought new life over there.

April snow
offering a fresh canvas
……Jonquils…….spring’s rebuttal
soft bunny ears
hide among the tulips
……pink nose…..red petals
garter snakes slither
slowly searching for the sun
………… warm stone beckons

Dan De Lion
Dan de Lion
Cold Jonquils know
you’ll steal their glow
unlike their snowy, sunburst blast
your foot long roots will ever last.
Sadly you won’t last too long
a gentle breeze and “POOF” you’re gone
to take up residence at will
bide your time again – until
you feel the urge to strut your stuff
cuz you Dandelions are so tuff.
